Triple D's February Challenge - The Wait is Finally Over!!

augie (sp?) - my commute is little.... nine miles round trip. It's a downhill glide in the morning, with payback in the afternoon. It's so convenient. Our home is just a half mile from an old trolley track that's been converted to a fitness trail. My office is a few hundred yards from the end of the trail. I started biking last summer and kept going until the temps were down in the teens. When the water bottle started getting crunchy I stopped. My lower limit is around 20 degrees.

I'm biking on days off from C25K.

IIRC you sneak in the back way?

Ronda

It's time I checked in with the DDD's, as it's been a couple of weeks. Some little birdie told me--or maybe it's because I've been lurking--that you've got some movie buffs here. Hah! Bring it, I say. How about this one, "First you want to kiss me, now you want to kill me." (It's on my FB page, a little insight into my personality if you will. I should have written "My name is Inigo Montoya," in honor of the film I taught last semester. Chester wore a t-shirt that said that to this year's POP meet, btw.)

Erica: Did I miss your birthday? Awww. Happy birthday, belated or otherwise! Here's lookin' at you kid. I'm glad you got the opportunity to celebrate in grand style. I love birthdays, and am all about the shameless promotion! You're well on your way to meeting your goal. P.S. I couldn't remember the name of "Necessary Roughness," either.

Augie: I second the recommendation about "Princess Bride." (Or third it....I didn't read that far back in the thread.)

Missy: That's a great picture of you and DH. I've always wanted your coloring. Stone Mountain's beautiful, too. Welcome to WISH and I know the DDD's are taking good care of you.

Rich: I still watch reruns of "Quantum Leap." Good stuff, that speculative fiction. And I especially liked Dean Stockwell (remember him from "Blue Velvet.") Dang, Erica beat me to "The Usual Suspects," one of my all-time faves.

Betsy: Wine tour by bike? That sounds marvelous. I obviously missed something in the earlier conversation. Maybe I need to hang out here more often. It sounds like your PT is going really well, although I can tell you're chomping at the bit to get training for your tri. Be careful (as I know you will be)!

Ronda: Great job with C25K. I love that program!
I will be walking the dog tonight as DGF does C25K. We don' t run at the same time.
:rotfl2: Congrats on your 8 miler, too! Before walks, I like a banana. Or half a bagel with PB. Either of those would work, the latter especially before long WOs. I definitely eat before WO; I'm kind of Pavlovian that way.

Bryan: How's your mom? I didn't know she had knee problems? I can't imagine you not having access to a gym for any length of time. I always imagine you're like me--the gym is your second home. We do part the way at coffee, though. I love the stuff, like your dad. Congratulations on recruiting others to do races with you! That's great.

Jenn: A weekend to Miami sounds heavenly. Great totals for the week!

To all the DDD's I might have missed. I hope to catch you next time.

I am in total awe of this team!!! Every night when I get home, I get online to check what is going on here on the boards and I am just blown away by the true fellowship that we have going on here. The love, the encouragement, the whole 9 yards. It's really overwhelming. It also lifts my spirits everyday. Anytime that I have a hard day at work, I know I can come here and have that taken away from me. A lot of you have said that I have been motivating you. Well, I am just trying to give back what I have been able to receive.

Betsy Just a sprint tri, huh? I would pass out after the sprint. Forget about the tri. It may be what you do but I know a lot of people who wish they could do part of what you do. Keep it up! You're awesome!!

Ryley I have to admit, I didn't know that quote. You stumped me. I guess now I have to hide in the corner until I can get one. Good job!

Erica I knew the quote but I couldn't remember the movie. (sound familiar) Except that I couldn't remember any of it. I was having "brain block". I must be getting old as that seems to be happening a lot more to me.:confused3 I am glad you had a good birthday. And for what you said, here is my response. :o :o :o (I had to look for those. Thanks for the compliments.)

Augie I know I may show some "redneck" stupidity by asking this, but what exactly is a "Phish-head"? I really have no idea. Please clue me in. Thanks!

Liz Great to see you up and around. Lil' Bro is thinking about you!

Jenn Awesome first week! Sounds like you had a good weekend as well. So how was Miami??

Ronda Glad you are having some good weather. It really does help with the motivation to get outside. Keep at it and you will amaze yourself.

Debra  Thanks for stopping by. You know you are always welcomed amongst the Ducks!! My mom is actually doing really well. She was supposed to have the surgery when we were doing the 5k. But they had to put it off for some health issues with my Dad. (He was under the weather then.) So she had it done the following week and she has been doing really well. The doctors said that it helped that she had been going to the gym with me. Now, she is itching to get back in there and she is really motivated to lose some weight as well. Luckily, I can still get into the gym no matter what. (I have connections.) And yes, you're right. The gym is my second home. (I believe the first home would be work.:confused3 )

Thanks everyone for all that you are doing! Not only is it motivating but it is making it really fun!!!

Bryan:cheer2: :grouphug:

Good Morning! Nice day out here today. I am glad the weather guys keep getting it wrong.

Ronda, sounds like you have a nce commute, especially as it sounds like no traffic. I do not have to deal with very much of it, and yes, I 'sneak' in the back way. Though is it sneaking in when you are supposed to be there anyway? In nicer weather there are quite a few who use that entrance as well, but this time of year it is two of us, and I have not seen any other tracks right now, so it is just me. He comes in on a road bike, so he would sink in the mud twice as far as I am these days. Oh, what is a C25K?

Brian, I guess it is similar to being called a deadhead. the Though they could also be called phish phans. The band is back after a several year hiatus, unfortunatly tickets are so hard to get these days. I read there were a million hits last week when ticket sales started (for only a 20, 000 seat venue). btw, I could be also called a hobo, as that is what they call fans of Railroad Earth. The money I save on gas by biking goes right to concert tickets, I guess!

Have a nice day!

"hamburgers, the cornerstone of any nutritious breakfast"

So I attempted running yesterday after taking such a long break off! :( And it didn't really go as well as I wanted. My hamstrings have been REALLLLY tight lately and I think it's totally throwing me off. No matter how much I stretch, I feel like it doesn't help! Plus I felt like I couldn't take a really deep breath as I was running. I better not be getting sick!

It's time I checked in with the DDD's, as it's been a couple of weeks. Some little birdie told me--or maybe it's because I've been lurking--that you've got some movie buffs here. Hah! Thanks! :) Hmm...Battlestar Galactica? lol maybe?

I love all you guys too already! I know I haven't been on as much as I want to but hopefully I'll get into the groove of things over here soon!

Miami was fabulous. Warm weather, fun nights, couldn't ask for much more! :)

Good morning all!

Jenn: Never fear, you'll get your groove going. Just jump right on in. In honor of your trip, here's a quote just for you: I figure marriage is kind of like Miami: it's hot and stormy, and occasionally a little dangerous... but if it's really so awful, why is there still so much traffic?

Augie: Okay, I think I am about to go waaaay up in your coolness rating. Todd Schaeffer sang the first song at my wedding (a slow, delicious version of Modern English's "Melt With You"). He and my dh are good friends from go way back to their college days in Columbia, my oldest son's first "concert" was when we hooked up with Todd and the rest of our buds in Pittsburgh for a From Good Homes show (he was so small, we put cottonballs and bandaids over his ears to protect them). I'll have to burn you copies of some of the old stuff we have from his college days playing little dives in Morningside Heights.

Bryan: i totally agree -I am reall enjoying the banter and feeling of camraderie we have going. And it is very motivating, becasue I feel lie I need to get out there and work out, even when i don't want to, so i don't let down the team.

Deb: :wave2: And no worries about being a day late on my birthday. I still love you. Plus, being born just 5 days before valentine's day and right near presidents day, I am one of those obnoxious people who stretches it into a weeklong celebration of ME (I'm a president in my own mind or something)! Good to see you. Oh, and Bruce campbell in Army of Darkness. Blow.

Liz: you sound better every post! :wizard: hope the healing continues at a good (but relaxed) pace. Oh, and G.I. Jane. I've used that line on a kid on more than one occassion.

Off to the vet with the now-premanent foster kitten. My husband (who, in all fairness, is highly allergic to animal dander) is threatenting to leave me if we get any more. I'm not sure how I feel about that.:rotfl: I mean, he's a nice enough guy, but he does snore. and steals the covers. and has never licked my face when i came home from a bad day. OTOH, he doesn't chase squirrels when we go out for a run. . .

Have a great one, team!

Hey triple D's!! Greetings from Walt's Warriors! Bryan has been doing an awesome job of encouraging my Warriors. FOrgive me, I'm barely keeping up withe them these days and have not had tiem to branch out. I will try to get abck for more shout outs later, but great job everyone adn thanks to Bryan fro beign so awesome!!!

Ronda, sounds like you have a nce commute, especially as it sounds like no traffic.... Oh, what is a C25K?

The trolley trail is great. I have to mix it up with traffic and the start and end and a bunch of crossings. This (Kansas City) is not enough of a biking city to give me a sense of confidence. There are occasional driver/biker spats that make the newspaper. I'll take the dogs and runners on the trail, thanks.

C25K (Couch to 5K) is an interval running startup program that preps a total slug for a 5K in eight or nine weeks. There are podcasts with prompts for the interval changes. Check out c25k.com. I first read about it on the main WISH board. There are a lot of WISHers at various stages. The "one bite at a time" joke comes to mind ; )

Erica, yes, that is really cool! Hey, we must have been at some of the same shows and not known it. They were just in Bay Shore a few weeks ago. A guy at work had been telling me about them (years ago) and they played at the Lab one night. Since then I have been hooked, and everyone I turn on to them feels the same way.

OK, back to work......

I enjoy mixing it up with traffic once in a while, I often take my bike on the train and head into NYC. It is the best way to get around town. There are actually many nice bike/running only trails, one the whole length of manhatten up the Hudson. What I find is you are either way out in front of the cars or way behind them.

Sorry for the delayed post but couldn't take time from work yet today and didn't get on the computer last night for more than a minute to download the Garmin. Anyway, had a nice hill workout with a twist lastnight that ended up being 6.29 miles total. The hill workout consisted of a 3/4 mile hilly loop that we ran twice for warm ups then hit it hard with progressions down to 5 k pace and below for 3 laps (for me this is 6:40 to 6:30 mpm) - next we hit a 300 meter hill hard X 3 for me (legs were still on flat training from the Goofy) and 4 for others at as fast as you could hold. Then a 2 mile cool down. The legs are telling me about it all day today.

Great training,

Mike "GG" B

Missy Believe it or not, I have been to Stone Mountain. What a beautiful place to visit!! That was an incredible pic. Does Mike want a "handle" (nickname) or would he prefer to just go by Mike? That way we can add him to the front page and the spreadsheet that we are creating. Congratulations on being able to have the support and encouragement from the one you love the most.

I talked to Mike last night, and he wants to be known as "Lugnut"! Hope that works!!:)

Missy: That's a great picture of you and DH. I've always wanted your coloring. Stone Mountain's beautiful, too. Welcome to WISH and I know the DDD's are taking good care of you.

Wow, thanks! I would never have thought that someone would want MY coloring! Thank you.:flower3:

Aaaack - I turn my back (at least it felt that way), and the next thing I know I am a week and several pages behind on the Triple D's! I can't believe it.

Anyway, I did catch up, reading really fast, and everyone is doing awesome! What a great team. I will try to stay on top of things better in the future.

As for me, I haven't completely slacked off, but I haven't really gotten back in the groove yet either. My goal right now is to get back on a regular running schedule, and then worry about time & distance. If I can get out there and move at least 3 times a week then things will be going in the right direction.

My totals for the first week of February were pretty measly:
Time: 45 min
Miles: 3.6

It will be better this week, but not by much. However, as I said things are moving in the right direction, and I can certainly use this team as inspiration! I had a really awful run on Sunday - and I mean awful, it's been MONTHS since I felt that bad during a run. But today I got out there in the beautiful weather, and it was great! So you never know.

Thanks guys!

Hey Duckies!!
Just doing a drive-by... Looks like things are going well with you all.
Keep up all the great work everyone.....

Your friendly neighborhood Warriors!!

Tracy

Hey Team!! Just a quick fly-by as I am getting ready for work. Just wanted to let eveyone know that I have all of the miles and hours updated thru what has been posted as of yesterday. You are all doing such a fabulous job that I feel like I could take the rest of the week off. (Who me?)

Tracy and Carrie Thank you so much for stopping by. Carrie, I do appreciate the very kind words but I am not awesome. I would like to think that I am a team player and definitely a WISH supporter but as Betsy has said, "it's just what I do". I have been lucky to make some really good friends on all of the teams so I want to make sure that all of the teams gets a little extra support from little ole' me every once in a while.

Kira I am so glad that you are feeling better. You are definitely a ROCK! Remember that your miles are not "measly" in the least. We are a team and as a team we fly. Every bit of it adds up for you and for us. Together we will achieve our goals.

Augie Thanks for the definition. Makes more sense now!!

Missy I have your husband in and ready to roll. Since he isn't a WISHer, you can post his stuff with yours and Betsy will keep it all in the spreadsheet to keep me on track with the totals. Thanks again!!

Mike Your not late but right on time! You've got some great training going on. Looks very apparent that you are going to stay in "Goofy" shape until your next available race. Your doing great.

Erica You "quack" me up!!

Me My update is that my week is pretty much done due to the race on Sunday. So I would like to say that I am in "taper" mode but I am actually in survival mode. I have gotten my first head cold:sick: in over 5 years and it is killing me right now. I can't take any kind of medicine that has alcohol in it due to the fact that I am the world's cheapest drunk. No tolerence for it. So I am trying to get that out of my system so I can be at my most energetic this weekend. I will still be here but it will be next week before I am back in the gym.

Movie Quote Here is a line that I use a lot. "Aren't you guys tired? Doc, I will get all the sleep I need when I am dead. Anyone remember this one??

Thanks Ducks!
Bryan:cheer2:

Hi, Kira!! So sorry about your back! Like you haven't had enough to deal with. Here is some PD for you! pixiedust:
Feel better soon! We'll hold the torch for you, don't worry!
I'm just glad to hear from you..was getting a little worried. :grouphug:

:tiptoe: Sneaking in here while I wait for my iPod to charge for a lunchtime run...

Erica: Give me some sugar, baby.

Bryan: Love your quotes. Very inspirational and appropriate. That said, "Roadhouse." (I'll never get those hours back.)

In return, how about this quote, which is what I would sometimes mutter when I increased my miles and thought about January....

"This is no longer a vacation. It's a quest, a quest for fun."

:tiptoe: Sneaking out again, promising not to disturb the DDD's future fun. Unless it's duck season, of course....

ha! I know that one. Vacation!! :)

I'm trying something here....then I REALLY need to get on my bike! (hours making spreadsheets doesn't count!)

http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=py8_U1Ts1fqArmWsJ7Fl6SA&hl=en

Maybe we can have it where people can see this?

DKP---visit any time!:goodvibes

ADDED: it looks like this is available for people to view. I know, it's not all pretty. I'll work on that later. and mind you, the minutes are really hours, in decimal form. I don't mind converting, so just post how you want to. (and, don't ask Bryan to convert them....just kidding!)

Debra I have actually lived the movie Vacation on one of my trips, with my Grandmother, driving in a station wagon, going to DisneyWorld. About the only true differences was that no one died, my Dad didn't steal any money out of a register and the park wasn't closed. Love that movie!!

Betsy :guilty:  :guilty: I guess some of my weak math skills have come out. I always have hated decimals and now I remember why. More childhood memories that I have been trying to hide away have come out again. Aaaaaaaarghhh! (Charlie Brown) Will it ever stop? By the way, the spread sheet is going to be a great big help. Thanks for doing that.

How is everyone doing today? This is the quietest that this group has been since we started. I sure hope you aren't already getting burned out. As for me, I will be going to get my race packet tomorrow when I get off from work. I found out tonight that after the race, there will be a free BBQ plate for all of the runners. (Nice perk but I am not a typical Southerner. I have to be in the mood for BBQ to eat it. And furthermore, I don't eat a lot of pork anyway.) Plus, they are going to have a couple of bands there as well so this is going to be fun. I will keep you all updated on the goings on and I will post a race report.

Hope you all have a great weekend and Happy Early Valentine's Day!!!!!!!!

Bryan
