Sharon - I've lived half my life in Kansas the other half in Iowa both are very windy states. I think I'm down to finding a big plastic bubble somewhere perferably in a tropical location!!
A plastic bubble would be nice sometimes. When we have that rare day when the wind is under 10 mph, I love to go outside just to enjoy NO WIND.
One time Dh and I were doing Bike Across Kansas (many years ago) and the first 4 days was the kind of wind where sane people stay inside. The fourth day we had head wind of 35-40 miles an hour and one stretch we were literally going 4 mph. Of course we could have sagged in, but we weren't smart enough to do that.![]()
are you Kansas teammates anywhere near Lawrence? I'll be there in June for my half Ironman. It was windy last year. And not flat, like everyone seemed to think it would be. I loved that bike course!
Okay, I just had to tell you guys my big news. Some of you may have heard about the LastMinuteTravel.com promotion where they are giving away free hotel stays. I was able to get a room at POR for marathon weekend next year. I'm so excited!![]()
Okay, back to talking about running and stuff...

Augie, I'm fortunate my cycle computer turns off after a while. I don't have one, but the fancy wireless ones can pick up interference from all kinds of sources. A friend logged 1,300 miles while the bike was sitting in his dining room. Top speed was 130 mph. Wheeee!

awesome! how much did you get it for, if you don't mind me asking! I look every once in awhile but I must be missing all the great deals!
That's so cool. I have tried but just not having any luck. When and how did you do it? I've even stayed up way past my bed time trying to get one of those rooms!
Have you ever done RAGBRAI? That's the bike across Iowa that happens late July, that's usually the one really really hot week of the year for Iowa! I've know lots of people who have done it and continue to do it year and year. Even Lance Armstrong has shown up the last couple of years.
That sounds like a cool ride to do. Is this a race or just a ride? There is a ride called the FANY ride, across upper NY state that also sonds like fun.

Mike I totally understand your decision. It is a smart and well thought out conclusion and I can't knock you for that. I hate that we will miss you this year but I can say this: Even though I am not going Goofy, I will try to make you proud!!
Thanks, Bryan. I know it was the right decision, but I still have that pang in my gut about missing Goofy #3. And I have no doubt you will make all of us proud - same as everyday. Keep up the great work.

MrsPotts...I did the Kansas 1/2 Ironman (70.3) last year...it was a very pretty bike ride. Hilly, but not too hilly! Will be there in June if anyone wants to stop by!
Lisa So I am "slacking" with my 25 miles huh? I will try harder tomorrow and see if I can hit 30. Will that be ok? Just kidding. I am doing as much as I can this week because I know next week I will be in a taper mode for half of the week getting ready for another Half that I am doing on the 15th. So it won't be like this always but right now, I am energized!!
