Triple D's February Challenge - The Wait is Finally Over!!

Hi Tripple Ds.

Thought I'd hop over and say hello.

Everyone ready for a super year of getting stronger faster and leaner?

Visiting Panda:goodvibes

Panda,

Is that you? Do we have a Panda amongst the midst of the Ducks? Welcome, dear wise Panda! Thank you for stopping by and saying Hi! You are always welcomed here with the Triple D's.

Hi Racy Tracy, you over here checking out what the mischevious Ds are up to?

Hi Bryan, thanks for the welcome, but if I'm wise why ain't I rich?

Hi, team!!! And you visitors! :) DeeKayPee, I can't wait to meet you next year! Tracy, too!

and the Panda....who I always think of when I see Panda Express Chinese food. haha!

Welcome to our new team members! yippee!:cool1:

I guess no one read my extra question at the end of my post. I have decided, as co-captain, I get to ask one:

What is the most interesting or unusual race/event you have done, and why?

Bryan, I am going to try to keep up with you and Augie this year. Seriously!
Though I already was a slacker...did some PT today for my shoulder, but skipped riding the exerbike as I had an errand to run after work. Shame on me. Had a good run yesterday, though!

Carry on...

Oh, and for the new people...when you're reporting miles and hours....as said before, both count, so keep a tally of both. AND, if you do a race, like a 5K, biking thing, triathlon, etc...you count the miles double. For example, if you do a 5K race in 30 minutes, you will count 6.2 miles (not 3.1) and 30 minutes. The idea behind that was to get people not only moving, but getting some fun race experience, and active in their communities.

Hi Racy Tracy, you over here checking out what the mischevious Ds are up to?

Hi Bryan, thanks for the welcome, but if I'm wise why ain't I rich?

You are rich! One of the richest people I know. It may not be monetarily but look at how you are loved and respected around here, on your blog and disneyrunning.com. Yes, my dear friend Panda, you are rich!!:thumbsup2

Hello 3D's. I think I will have a pretty poor showing in the mileage report this week. I am only getting a few miles in per day, and they are all short bursts, a mile from the office to the lab, a mile back a few hours later, a mile across the street to the other section. Maybe 6-8 miles a day if I am lucky. The good thing is I have to go up some hills. And it is quicker than driving, no wasting time searching for a parking place. I did not bring much in the way of running apparel either, so none of that this week either. I did spend all day skiing, but how would one count that? I hope to make it up next week!

Have a good day!

Augie

I Love all the stories you folks are great. I had a good runi outside today the streets were finally clear,so it didn't feel like one foot forward as I'am sliding backward. It looks like a great collection of folks with different strengths. I'm looking forward to this year.Rich

Mike I am so glad you have decided to stay on the team again this year. I really think you ought to go Goofy one more time. Just one more round, you know. As Rocky would say "I didn't here no bell. One more round." (I am full of quotes tonight for some reason. Oh well. I'm having a blast!) What ever you do, I just want to be able to meet you while we are down there since I wasn't able to meet you this past race.

Bryan:crazy2: :joker:

Again, thanks for all you are doing here Bryan. And now for the officail end to my vacillation on Goofy 2010 - I will NOT  be running Goofy next year. I spent more than 3 hours Sunday night tossing and turning in bed after I had filled out the race app, addressed the envelope andplaced the stamp but did not drop it into the mail box. There was the guilt of goiong back to WDW without DW, DD and DS again. Then the guilt of spending the money for airfare, dinning and race entry. Lastly, the fear that the economy was going to negatively impact my job - seeing way too many job cut notices in the pharmaceutical industry. And finally, the realization that I can return in 2011 - hey, I can make the Goofy an every other year tradition. So Bryan, won't meet you for the 2010 Goofy - I was lame this year and made no meets - but who knows, we may be heading down for either TRFTT or ToT in October.

Hi everyone! Sorry I'm late to the February party - here are my vitals:

Name: Kira
Location: Philadelphia, PA
Races that you have competed in: a few 5Ks, a 10K trail run, and 2 halfs - the Philadelphia Distance Run in Sept. 08, and the WDW Half last month
Races planned for 2009 thru Marathon Weekend '10: Definitely doing the ING PDR again, and planning on the WDW Full (first full - yikes!), but haven't yet registered. I'm thinking about the Broad Street Run (10 miles), the Country Music Half, and the VA Beach Half. I'll definitely also throw in a few 5Ks as well.
Goals for 2009:
Increase my distance so that I am ready for the full next January. Incorporate weekly cross-training into my schedule.
Some secret that no one knows about you that you don't mind sharing: I am a coffee addict - I can't get through the day without it! It's one of the simple pleasures of my life.

I got in my first real post-Donald run on Sunday, and hope to get out twice more this week. Let the games begin!

I'll cross post this to the Week1 WISH thread, too. Someone tell me if that's not okay, please.

Tell me about your gizmos. After reading Marathons for Mortals I am intrigued by the speed distance monitor Jenny mentions. Further googling makes me think it's a wristwatch that receives a signal from a thingy laced into the runner's shoe. Who has one they really like? Do you tell it your stride length or does it simply KNOW?

I've used a Forerunner in the past, but have been disappointed by lost signals and the outside-only problem.

I have tied the purchase of something like this to finishing C25K. I don't know what kind of reward I will plot for the half marathon!!! Maybe a new nano.

Thanks for insights,
Ronda

Good morning, team! Like a few of us, I loved the brief respite from winter and the chance to run outside. But now we're getting hit by another storm and bone-chilling temps predicted through the week, so its back to the treadmill. Well, it was nice while it lasted.

Ronda: I don't use one of those big fancy gizmos. TYhey kind of intimidate me. I do have a Nike Plus for my Ipod, which does what I need it to do.

Kira: Congrats on the first post-Donald run! I always find its one of the hardest for me, that first run after a big event. Probably just the whole post-race let down or something. Glad you are feeling well (well enough to run, anyhow).

Mike: Sorry you won't be at the Goofy in 2010, but it sounds like the right decision. And you're right -- it will still be there in 2011, and so will the WISH gang. BTW, I was also lame and didn;t make it to any of the meets this year. I am already vowing to get there early next year and attend the POP meet at least.

Rich: You sound pretty great yourself. Glad to have you on the team!

Augie: "a mile across the street"? Wow, those swiss build 'em wide, huh? :lmao: Sounds like you're still managing to get those miles in, one way or another. Good job!

Betsy: I saw your question, but just don't have a good answer. I think of my races as pretty run0of-the-mill. Well, non-DISers find the Disney race stories interesting, but around here, well, if running a Goofy forllowing three men in pink tutus and flamingo hats isn't all that unusual.

Bryan: Carousel of Progress and The Mighty Ducks?

Carol: Welcome to the gang. Extremely competitive works for us!

Deb, Tracy, and Dave: :wave2: Nice to see you guys here!

Hope everyone has a great day. :cheer2:

Good morning everyone! Hope you're all doing well today.

Sharon - I'm thrilled to know there is someone else from KS here and that you also know where Eureka is located! Not much here but it's a good place to further my career and ride out the recession.

Erica - I consider them almost raised because they are out of diapers and no bottles! My oldest is a freshman in college and is also planning on doing the marathon with me next January and yes I was only 10 years old when I had him!!! I considered him "done", basically I'm just the ATM now and provide moral support and advice when called upon! I did pretty good raising that one. The youngest a freshman in high school is a work in progress. Pretty self sufficient but still needs special attention and watching. But the boys will always need their mommy!!!

:worship: Bryan- only lifting and going 25 miles? Are you slacking already!!! :rotfl: So kidding here. You do more in one day than I do in a whole week....or two for that matter!!!!

Ronda - I was wondering the same thing about gizmos and would really like to know as well. I don't want to invest in a forerunner especially the giant one. Hope someone can enlighten us on this.

Oh my secret? I have a serious aversion to wind and always have! I don't even like to drive with the windows down and if I do drive with them down I am in town and the windows are only open an inch or two or if they are all they way down there is a smelly boy in the vehicle with me and I am desperate!!! :crazy2: Fortunately for me I don't run or walk fast enough to create wind maybe a breeze but not wind!

Lisa the wind story is too funny. My wife is the opposite windows always down can't stand the AC. We could be sweating to death and the windows are down.

How do we count strenght training??? Or do we???

Did someone answer that? :) I think you can could it as minutes? At least maybe strenuous strength training? I know I sweat like a dog and struggle for air when I strength train! haha!

Jenn in NJ :hyper: :hyper: I need more caffeine. Please help me find more caffeine!:hyper: :hyper: :rotfl2: Love me? Who loves me? I don't know of anyone who actually loves me? What do you know? Who have you been talking too? On second thought, maybe I don't need anymore caffeine for today.:rotfl: :rotfl2: :lmao:

I love reading and hearing all of your stories. It is great to have this opportunity to get to know one another. If you can and want to, post a pic or two as well. I think my mug has been posted enough for anyone's tastes but we haven't seen the rest. That could complete the puzzle. Or we could use it as a before and after. Whatever you decide though is fine with me.

Hope you all have a great night!
Bryan:crazy2: :joker:

haha, ok lay off the caffeine!!!! :) I'll have to remember to post a pic later. I can't view pics at work so hopefully I'll do it when I get home tonight!

Hi everyone! Sorry I'm late to the February party - here are my vitals:

Name: Kira
Location: Philadelphia, PA

I was JUST in Philly this weekend visiting my best friend from college! We had a great time! I just have to go back when it's warmer!!

Tell me about your gizmos.

I don't have any yet but I heard the Garmin gps/heart rate monitors are good.

*******

Ohh..forgot to mention I had a crappy day at the gym yesterday. Did the stairmaster (20mins) and eliptical (30mins) (wanted to run but they were all taken so after the stairmaster my legs did NOT want to cooperate!). mehhhhhh

I did C25K W1D2 on the TM today. After work I took the dog on a brisk walk as DGF did W1D2, too.

It's getting frigid again, but by the weekend it should be 70 again!

Ronda

Lisa So I am "slacking" with my 25 miles huh? I will try harder tomorrow and see if I can hit 30. Will that be ok? Just kidding. I am doing as much as I can this week because I know next week I will be in a taper mode for half of the week getting ready for another Half that I am doing on the 15th. So it won't be like this always but right now, I am energized!!

Jenn :scared: Life without caffeine??? Don't do that to me, please. :joker: I have always been a jokester so when I saw your post, I just took it and ran. Hope I didn't scare you (or worry you either).

Erica Good job with the movie quotes. I have another one for you if you are up to the challenge. "It was called a successful failure." Any ideas? I will tell you this. It is from one of my all time favorite movies.

Kim I can't remember if I answered your question or not about the time for training. Yes, you do count that as well. So if you spend 1 hour x-training and 1 hour walking/running, then you can count 2 hours for that day's exercise total. Hope that helps.

Rich I will echo what has already been said. You are pretty awesome yourself. I am looking forward to having a great year!

Mike I totally understand your decision. It is a smart and well thought out conclusion and I can't knock you for that. I hate that we will miss you this year but I can say this: Even though I am not going Goofy, I will try to make you proud!!

Ronda I don't have any gadgets to be honest. I always would have rather put the money towards other stuff that I felt was more important. I believe Vic has a Garmin that he got last year though so he might be able to help shed some light on the subject.

Betsy I don't have anything unusual about a race but I can tell a stroy about something else (that was also somewhat humiliating). While in high school, I was a bandie and played the tuba. We were at a pretty big marching competition. As we were getting ready to march onto the field, my shoe came untied. I had been told that the judges started judging you as soon as they can see you so with that in mind, I wouldn't stop to tie them. That was one of the hardest shows I have ever marched in my life as I was trying to do the very best I could for the regular show and to make sure that I didn't march out of my shoe. We got back home and listened to the judges tapes and each judge made several comments about the tuba player that needs to learn how to tie his shoes!!:guilty: At the next show we did, someone played the practical joke of putting about 3 knots in my laces to make sure that there were no more issues. I can tell you this. It never happened again.

Kira I have been missing you. Congratulations on the run. I was going to get outside today but a late night at work and some pretty cold weather kept me in at the gym. I am very glad that you are doing good!:grouphug:

To All of Our Guests Thank you for stopping by and saying Hi! Please feel free to come by and check on the Ducks as much as you would like. We have an awesome team with some incredible stories. I hope, is you read them all, one story may inspire you as they all have inspired me.

Update I got a text from Liz tonight and she is at home but she has been really sick. After the surgery, she developed a fever that they couldn't really figure out. She is not a very happy camper right now. I would like to think that I know Liz pretty well and I know how much she loves this team. She has a pretty awesome story as well that I hope she will feel up to sharing with all when she can join the team. I have been letting her know about all of the well-wishes from all of the WISHers. I just hope she feels better soon.pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust:

Thanks everyone for all that you are doing. The stories, the interaction and the fellowship is extremely inspiring. I know we have only finished day 3 but if the rest of the year is anything like the first 3 then we are going to have one heck of a year.

KEEP ROCKIN' TRIPLE D'S :cheer2:

Oh my secret? I have a serious aversion to wind and always have! :rotfl: Oh, lordy, you're in Kansas now!!!!! We almost always have wind. :rotfl: A little breeze of 10 mph is considered no wind. :rotfl:

Hey 3D's! Hope everyone is having a good day.

Gozmos? Sorry, I do not have one for running. I have four bikes and only one computer which I keep on my commuter, and I often neglect to turn it off after a ride. Doesn't help the average speed when it computes 13 miles in 9 hours.

As for wind, one of the joys of mountain biking is it seems when you get into the woods the wind stops. On the road it is a different story, some headwinds cut your speed by half. Lisa, you would not like riding in my summer car, it has no windows at all, so one tends to get very windblown.

Bryan, nice you heard from Liz, here's hoping for a speedy recovery!

Talk to you all later!

Augie

Jenn :scared: Life without caffeine??? Don't do that to me, please. :joker: I have always been a jokester so when I saw your post, I just took it and ran. Hope I didn't scare you (or worry you either).

haha, no worries! apparently I didn't have my caffeine either! :rotfl: and if ANYONE tries to take away my caffeine...we're fighting! haha
