Trip to Riverside -concerned re sleeping arrangements

I've booked a week's holiday to the POR in October this year. The problem I have is the sleeping arrangements. My family is me, DS16, DD13 and DD9 plus my DH. We have booked with Virgin all in one room but my daughter although she is only 9 is 5ft 2! Can anyone tell me more about the trundle beds? It says under 9s can sleep on these, what are they like? As she is so tall will she fit?

Wow! I thought the trundle beds were for much younger kids! That is going to be a very crowded room. Did you look into the suites at Allstars?

That will be crowded. We found the doubles in POR to be on the small side even sleeping one adult/one child. And I would think your DS16 would want his own bed so the DDs can sleep together. That would mean the trundle for him which would be very cramped (but heck its still doable.) I'd estimate the trundle length about 5ft. 5'2" can do trundle a bit easier but still cramped. I'd look into deluxe room, all star suites or connecting room for a family of your size/age.

ages 8 (shes not so tall) ages 11(will turn 12 while in disney) and age 13 (turning 14 in 2weeks) and me and my wife. we are having my smallest--8yro in teh trundle and the 2 others in a bed. itll be alrite though.

I'd go with a cabin, or a deluxe resort that can sleep 5 (like the Contemporary). That is really tight for the room.

I think your daughter will be fine in the trundle. My 8 year old slept there, he is 5'0".

The beds could be a problem. One adult and a small children is probably best.

Maybe you and your 13 year old daughter in one bed. Husband in the other. Or you and hubby in one and oldest son in the other .

Then you could bring a single air mattress for whoever is left. The floor would be crowded but only at night. A single air mattress will fit.

My teen boys always used the trundle. They are not big, but middle son kept it for the whole trip although we told them they could switch off. Cabins are another great option.

I would do a suite at asmu or go to a deluxe that holds 5!!

I think that would be a really tight fit at Riverside. We got connecting rooms at Riverside once when there were six of us on a trip, worked out great.

Just a thought: too close of quarters can really work each other's nerves and make the vacation less fun.

My 14 year old son who is 5'7" slept in the trundle bed without a problem. There were five of us in the room, me, husband, 15 year old daughter, son, 7 year old daughter. We live in a rather small house with only one bathroom so we're used to being on top of each other and in each other's business all the time anyway. You're hardly in the room as it is, so stick with it and spend the money on other things that you really want.
Just make sure you have a shower and bathroom schedule worked out so your mornings go a little smoother.

Hi, We stayed at Riverside in January. My eight year old(4ft.8) slept on the trundle and she loved it. She had plenty of room. It was like her own special spot. The privacy curtain in the bathroom area was very helpful and having two sinks was great.

We did 4 in one room: me, DH, DD21, DS18. We brought an Aerobed for my son, since we couldn't be guaranteed an AB room w/trundle. DS is 6' tall, but I think he could have curled up and slept on the trundle if necessary. He can sleep anywhere! We did fine with 1 room for the week. We were really only there to shower and sleep, so I couldn't justify doubling our hotel bill for 2 rooms or a deluxe. We actually enjoyed being all together. With children in their teens and twenties, that doesn't happen so often anymore!

There will be 5 of us at the POR too. Me, DH, DD10, DD8, and DS6. I hope we are not cramped. I am not worried about the girls in the double or DS on the trundle. What has me worried is DH and I in a double. Maybe I will put all 3 kids in one bed and I'll use the trundle. My kids are tiny and have slept in a twin before together many times. After 10 days though goodness knows how we'll be on each others nerves.

It is tight at POR with 5 in the room, but it is doable. We brought a twin air mattress too and whoever wasn't comfortable in their "assigned" space was able to sleep on it. Worked out really well for us -- DH and I even slept on the air mattress a night or two. We also live in "close quarters" here so we don't mind squeezing in. If being close together might be a problem for your family, you might want to consider two rooms at a value or one room at a deluxe. Have a great trip!

Dh and I have managed just fine in a double while vacationing at WDW, although we are used to a queen at home. I think we're just so tired after a day in the parks that we don't move during the night.

BTW, I don't get all the talk about the small size of the rooms at POR. The values are even smaller, but their still not too bad. We regularly stay at all levels of WDW resorts, so I can fairly make this observation. The deluxe rooms really don't feel all that larger. Now, the same can't be said for a 1 or 2 BR villa. Those are far, far roomier and my preference for trips (like Christmas) when we spend more time in the room.

Maybe we're just a tall family LOL but the trundle at POR was too tiny and uncomfortable for my child, and she was only seven at the time. We actually moved hotels 3 times that trip (it was booked very last minute, 48 hours in advance so we were happy to just be there and looked on moving as an adventure!) we could've had the room at the PORRS all week. . .but she didn't get a wink of sleep on it, partly because she was so afraid I think of being so low to the ground in a state with lots of critters lol. Even though we never saw any critters.

I would never do that room again. We either book two AS rooms, or go with a deluxe so we get the full size daybed.

Just our experience, hope it helps along with the others to help you decide.

we stayed at riverside when DS was 9 and though tall he was fine with the trundle. They are that tired they could sleep standing after a day in the parks. Did you say you have a teen son and daughter ? that would be my main issue. my daughter would never share a bed with her brother and the trunde is too small for a teen. Buy an aerobed at walmart. Thats what we will be doing. You can use the bedding for the trundle for it then your DDs can share a bed.

Five of stayed at por one time. We had a cot for our stay. It was crowded at night but during the day we just folded it up. We put it along side one of the beds. Head up near the connecting room door. Had no problem.

The 5 of us have stayed a few times there and had plenty of room.. My 8 year old loved the trundle bed. Like someone else said, we like to save that money and spend it somewhere else.
