Excellent!

Now, how can I find out what nights the Sunset safari is offered? I will be there before anyone else in my group on a Friday in June. Do you know if Friday is one day that it's offered?

I just called to reserve and they told me what nights it's available (at least in May). Unfortunately, I didn't write down the days, but I think it's Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. And to give you an idea of availability, they had plenty of availability for early May, a couple nights were hardly booked.

Diane, thanks so much for your report. You've made me more excited than ever about doing the Sunset Safari. I can't wait to meet Jay! I wonder what we'll get to eat at Jiko's, not that it matters, I'm sure I'll love whatever they serve-just wondering.
I do have one question about the light level in the AKL studios. Do you think it would be a help if I brought a light bulb? I like to read at night, and the only complaint I had my last visit was with the light level. I had to go to the lobby to do my evening reading.

Actually, lighting on the bedside tables was fine. The only thing I had difficulty with was the bathroom in the studio. The master was better.

Well, I must admit, if I didn't have such a fantastic theme and decor to look at, the "hotel" type atmosphere would have gotten to me. The biggest thing I noticed was how much noise comes from the hallway. This was less of a problem in concierge, but there were kids running around unsupervised very early in the morning playing pirate off the rope bridge and down to the lobby. This was 6:30 AM!!! Not sure where the parents were, but these same kids in the 6-8 year old range were still running around at 8 AM when we left.

We were only in the studio 1 night, and I don't recall if there were mugs or not, but I do know the "glasses" were paper...not plastic, and not styrofoam.

The food was three different appetizers, three main courses (Sturgeon, filet, and a chicken dish). These are the items marked as signature dishes in their menu. The desserts were a chocolate cake (YUM), a Custard type dish, and a cheesecake dish. They bring plenty for everyone, so you wont go home hungry!

Another thank for your trip report. DH and I are going on both safaris in July and you've whetted our whistle for them. We're both Ole's from St. Olaf and have to say we don't miss the winters at all.

Diane thanks for the great trip report. I look forward to doing a couples only trip. We did one in 2000 and it was great. Have brought the kids and friends every year since. This year it will be DS and 5 friends all 18 for their graduation. We wanted to do something special for them before they go their separate ways.

Thanks for the great trip report. The safaris sound really nice. It is different doing a couples trip. DH and I had our 1st trip w/o children (20th anniversary celebration) last November and it was wonderful.

Most of the units at OKW have gone to the new foam style pull out sofa bed in the living room. This particular unit still had the old "bar in the back" sofa bed. We didn't need to use it, but I was surprised to see it there, because I thought they were all replaced a couple of years ago.

Actually, they have opened up the sunrise to ALL AKL guests now, and not just concierge. The Sunset (Waynama) has always been open to anyone.

Great report Diane! The meal at Jiko sounds wonderful and the safari sounds like it was so much fun! All sounds like it was great aside from the hallway noise, which I've already seen reported at AKV before.
