Sorry for delay but I have been suffering from a nasty bout of flu or DWS as my wife is telling everyone (Disney Withdrawal Syndrome) She feels its because the trip is over I am in denial at a lack of planning activities and has thoughtfully arranged for me to plan the decoration of our dining room. Not quite the same thing at all!!!

Anyway before the memories fade.

DAY 3

Animal Kingdom

Very nice breakfast at Ponderosa after taking in life in hands to negotiate the 1/2 mile journey involving a u turn for first time.

Weather absolutely gorgeous and the only cloud on the horizon is the worry about the heavy crowds wot with it being the weekend before Presidents Day. Arrive at Park 20 mins before opening and surprised at lack of crowds. No queue at all for photos/autographs with Micky/ Minnie/ Baloo and decide to head off for Africa and Safari. Pause to admire the centre piece Tree which is stunning and smile at American Dad who assures his kids its real!. No queue at all for Safari and wow its well worth it. The buzz when a Giraffe just ambles across the road in front of our jeep is brilliant. Question. Why dont the Lions eat the other animals????????? (hidden fences ???n or worlds first vegetarian lions?)Great views of wonderful animals but then why do they go and spoil it with the very unneccessary poacher chase. The sheer thrill of the experience is enough without such derived nonsense.

Note that weather is getting much much hotter (can Disney control the weather as well?)Head off for Tarzan Rocks and thoroughly enjoy a rousing show. Daughter and I have decided to take on Kali River Rapids. Wife as born again coward guards the bags. I buy Caitlin a rain poncho but being man the hunter decide not to wimp out. Ten minutes later I am soaked, drenched, sopping (delete as applicable)Caitlin has almost wet herself laughing at my predicament, wife not far behind. Pause to buy new t shirt. Please bring a spare shirt with you folks!!!!!

Not impressed to be mistaken for an Australian much as I admire Steve Waugh and Co. Cue what wife calls my Meldrew Moment but this soon passes as I am shortly comforting Caitlin who has been scared witless by the Bugs Life Show. She had no qualms about Splash mountain, Thunder Mountain, Kali Rapids but this was something new and I can understand her viewpoint. Still we were warned so no complaints.

She soon perks up when confronted by Pooh, Piglet, Tigger and Eeyore and we head off to Lion King Festival. Wife and Caitlin thoroughly enjoy this. Its very good but I am a little put off by the layout, difficult to explain. Caitlin is summoned from the audience to help with the finale and I reflect on how at 6 she is far more independent and confident than me at that age (aside from nasty bugs that is)

Very hot now and I am flagging badly. Copious amounts of water are downed but to no avail. Suggest going back early but outvoted. Perk up enough to stay for Parade which is very nice and so at 4.45 we leave all agreeing that we have had a fabulous day in which a whole range emotions were experienced.

Stop off at Planet Hollywood for evening meal. Decent enough, nice atmosphere . Do a spot of shopping in giant Disney store and return to base tired but contented.

Day 4
Decide to do Sea World. Weather forecast iffy and a storm is predicted by dusk. Give Sizzler a try for breakfast and good as Ponderosa is we all agree Sizzler is far better all round. The 2 are next door to each other and we are surprised that Sizzler is much less busy. We eat at just after 7 and it seems the bulk of the customers are fellow brits. Next door Ponderosa is besieged by armies of Americans tumbling out of their huge MPVS many with tinted windows (the vehicles that is not the people) Have thought about this and am still in the dark.

Again surprised by the lack of crowds on view. Wife thinks there is a chink in my plans. "You said it would be horrendous?" Blame Simon Veness for this (Sorry Simon but there may be a reason as we watch the news the next day) That said its a very pleasant surprise. Crowds were something I was very worried about.

Am attracted by Journey to Atlantis ride. Seems ok. Water shute, people coming down seem dry enough. No worries. Ten minutes later I am descending the shute perfectly dry thinking ha ha piece of cake. Hang on though we are going back up the other side. Alarm bells start to ring.

Five minutes later its a case of deja vu as wife and daughter are virtually rolling around laughing at my predicament. Didnt see the other side of the ride which results in another soaking. This time I am wearing a pair of light chinos and the result is I look like an incontinent with a leak!!!!!!!!!

3 wonderful shows follow with Caitlin aboslutely in stitches at the Sealion show. Simon Veness redeems himself as I recall his mention of the pre show antics of the mime artist. Absolutely brilliant. From my seat high in the stand its so easy to laugh at the predicament of innocents who fall victim to the loon in question. Still after my soaking and the smirks of passers by I feel I deserve my chance to laugh at others!!!!

Stumble across a Welsh Flag on the walkway and a very nice Dutch couple take a family photo for us underneath our national flag.

Storm clouds are gathering and as we leave the heavens open. Why are Floridian weathermen so damned accurate in comparison to the BBC. My mate whos a geography teacher tells me its because of predictable winds? I think not.Perhaps the BBC need to invest in a new piece of sea weed.

All for now.

Next door Ponderosa is besieged by armies of Americans tumbling out of their huge MPVS many with tinted windows (the vehicles that is not the people) Have thought about this and am still in the dark.

Most Florida residents have tinted windows to keep their cars cooler and help the air conditioning work better. I live in NJ and tinted windows are illegal here! (The tinted windows wouldn't help in our blizzard filled winters though.)

I also fell for the Atlantis "dry as a bone" look. I wonder why the exit is so far from the entrance ?

Why is it that us males can't wear poncho's ? Is it the fear of being called a wimo ?

Or wimp even :) Or did you mean wino? :jester:

Will remember to pack spare clothes for DH to spare his blushes ( as I may well be in the born again coward camp myself!)

My concession to water this trip will be swimming with a dolphin at DC.

Yeah KO my speling is awfull.

You got the message though. As an aside, how should you be addressed ? Neo ? Rabbit ?

If you're going on the water rides don't wear dark underwear under light shorts like my wife did this year !!!

What amuses me is how I can preview a message and still miss the typos!

However you please that's short to type :)

Noted! Oh my....

I reckon it's part of Disney's policy of selling you dry clothes and towels. Those guys are so slick it's unbelieveable. And we don't seem to mind !

LOL

Like the icecream sellers that suddenly become umbrella sellers in most European cities when it suddenly starts to rain ;)

Of course I'd maintain I won't get wet as I won't be on any of those things ;) DD was watching a video of Universal or something and even she told me - we must take extra dry clothes!! But she is 10 and given to changing the 'outfit' 10 times in any given day :)

Ten weeks today it will be 3.40am in Orlando, it will be our first morning and I bet we'll all be awake LOL
