Trip report question...very confused...

Well, the questions as to why the other mods don't enforce as much has not been answered. And one of the mods posted a link to a NY trip report on this board...as well as the CB...and by your first paragraph (the Marla post) that is inappropriate for the trip reports board.

Selective enforcement.

I can understand finished reports being closed...that is fine and cut and dry, but unfinished reports...you all keep saying idle chit chat....it's keeping the thread alive and also even maybe an inspiration....but I guess that is the point you all are not seeing. If a report is finished yes.....but otherwise...no.

so to finish off...we can idle chit chat all day long with our posts as long as we include a trip related aspect to it?

By George...we have it!

Thank you all for being kind (most) in your responses. I realize and have realized that the community and freindly feel on the TR board is not something the general population must want. I do also realize this is a free internet message board which I love to hang out it, and I also realize that you are given reign to see fit how to run your area, but a vote or a true post - not just a "reminder" of what is acceptable would have been great. I only recently started reading and coming to this area of the board...I guess it's been a big mistake.

ETA: I am now going to tie my hands behind my back.....I may read more but I am through trying to at least get the mods to open up and say hey - yes we do see your point...which they haven't and I doubt they will.

DISboards.com Guidelines
These forums are a part of Pete Werner's Unofficial Online Guide to Disney World (http://www.wdwinfo.com), also known as "The DIS". The site is owned and operated by Werner Technologies, Inc., and has no affiliations with the Walt Disney Company or any of its subsidiaries.

These guidelines apply to all boards operated on this web site.

The purpose of these boards is to give the fans and visitors of Walt Disney World an opportunity to share their experiences with one another. This is to be a fun and enjoyable exchange. The boards are open to anyone who happens to find their way here.
There are a few limits on what may be posted. They are listed below:

1. FOR SALE posts: For sale ads are strictly prohibited on any of the DISboards. Anyone posting such ads will have their posts deleted. For sale posts include posts asking for donations. If you are part of a charity that is looking to raise money, you must email the webmaster at webmaster@wdwinfo.com with information and proof of the organizations validity (this includes an address for the organization as well as the phone number). Otherwise, the post in question will be deleted.

2. NO PROFANITY: Profanity has no place on these boards. The boards are equipped with censoring software and will not permit messages containing inappropriate language to be posted. Profanity includes attempts to bypass the built in filter that these boards contain to avoid such words. Anyone found trying to bypass the filter will have their posting privileges revoked. Further, profanity includes suggestive or inappropriate photos. This is a family site, and other sites exist that contain more lenient guidelines regarding such matters.

3. NO FIGHTING: Several Internet news groups are marred by the actions of a few selfish people who turn an otherwise positive forum into a soap box for their anger issues. Internet newsgroups are not moderated, and therefore, anything goes. These boards are moderated in an effort to keep the discussions appropriate to the topic at hand. Those who feel they can not abide by these rules are welcome to read the posts on the board, and respond via email to the person who posted the message. Messages that are argumentative or sarcastic in nature will be deleted without discussion.

4. NO PERSONAL MESSAGES: These boards are not for exchanging personal messages with friends. For that, we suggest you use email or our Private Message system. If you have a personal comment for that person, please direct it to them via email or PM. If the use of the boards for personal messages continues, those messages will be deleted. Remember, if the message is not intended for EVERYONE, it does not belong on the boards!

5. ADVERTISING: The only commercial advertising permitted on these boards, are those that are contracted through the site. Any posts that are deemed as advertising for a commercial interest will be deleted. Commercial advertising is considered to be any individual posting for the purpose of promoting a for profit organization not directly affiliated with the DIS. Visitors are free to share their experiences with various companies, but anything considered advertising will be deleted and the user will lose posting privileges without discussion.

6. STAYING ON TOPIC: The boards are named to reflect general topics. Please refrain from asking questions about park hours on the DVC board, or questions about the Caribbean Beach on the Trip Reports board.

7. MODERATORS: For each forum on the DIS, a moderator(s) has been chosen to oversee a particular board. Moderators have the authority to delete or edit posts as needed, based on these guidelines. Moderators act with the full authority of the webmaster, and their decisions on all matters are final.

8. LINKS TO OTHER SITES: You are free to post a link to your web site on our discussion boards, provided that a) you are not offering a commercial service or for profit venture, b) you do not repeatedly and excessively post the same link over and over again on the forums within our site, and c) that you place a link back to the DIS on your site in an area easily found. From time to time you might wish to post links to other sites that contain information not found here on the DIS. While we encourage this, we ask that you please make sure the information is not already contained on our site (remember, the boards make up only 10% of our site).

9. DISCOUNT CODES: From time to time, Disney will send postcards via US Mail to select groups offering special deals. These codes are not intended for the general public, rather they are marketed to specific areas of the country. Under no circumstances can discount codes that are printed on these postcards be posted on our boards. Any such posts will be deleted immediately. We feel that if this is overly abused on the Internet, that Disney will eventually stop offering these discounts all together, in which case, everyone loses.

We do not believe in censorship, and open discussions about various issues is encouraged. We ask that everyone conduct himself or herself with respect when speaking to other people. It is okay to disagree, as long as the discussion remains respectful of the feelings of others. Once a discussion begins to step over that line, the post in question will be deleted. In extreme cases, individuals who are not able to conduct themselves as responsible group members will be asked not to return.

If you have questions or issues regarding this, please feel free to direct them to the webmaster at webmaster@wdwinfo.com

I think this thread has run it's course, so I'm going to lock it now. We, the moderators here on the trip report board, have fully and repeatedly explained our decisions.

As OhMari has stated, we are just going around in circles. I do not think anything productive can come from everyone repeating the same questions, and the moderators repeating the same answers over and over again.

Many people who have been involved in the chit chat have found a new home on this thread. It's a lively and fun group discussion!

If you have any further questions or concerns about the decisions of the trip report moderating staff, please feel free to PM us, and we will be more than happy to answer you.

Please do not attempt to start another thread like this with the same questions. The decisions have been explained fully by the trip report moderators on this thread, and there is really no futher explanation is needed, and nothing further we can add in the explanation. Any attempt to restart a thread asking us to explain the decisions will be deleted without warning.

If you have questions about why the moderating differs from board to board, please contact a webmaster for further explanation. We, the trip report moderators, can not and will not speak for the decisions made by other moderators.

Thank you.
