Day 4 - Friday 14th July (Bastille Day)
Got up at 7am for breakfast at 7:30. Planned to get to the park for the turnstiles opening but misread the bus timetable and didnt get to the park until 8:50. We wandered down Liberty Arcade to the Frontierland entrance where there were 6 or 7 people waiting.
We managed to position ourselves to the right-hand side and waited for the announcements. Come the final announcement we briskly walked down the passage. When we came out we saw the people from the main entrance jog through so we started running and ran all the way to BTM. It paid off as we were on the first train of the day yee haaa! Got a fastpass and headed to Discoveryland.
Rode Buzz twice (68300 & 109700) and headed over to Star Tours. Grabbed fastpasses for Space Mountain on the way and gave them to some French girls who did not understand what we were saying. Got fastpasses for Star Tours and rode it. Had the same problem as before and it was too soon after breakfast for me. I decided that I would not go on it again so we gave away our fastpasses.
Went and got fastpasses for Buzz and wandered over to find the Keelboats in Frontierland. They werent open surprise surprise. Had a look around Pocahuntas village and I wanted to see Critter coral so we had a walk over. It also was closed. Soon that entire area of the park will be like a ghost town of the wild west.
Went back to BTM for our fastpass. Sat in the last carriage and were thrown around something silly. Grabbed another one for later. Went back to Buzz for fastpass ride (beginning to love the fastpasses) and spent the whole time spinning the spaceship around.
Had an earlier lunch as we had an earlier breakfast. Pizza and pasta at Bella Notte. Very nice and made a change from burgers. Decided to leave the park as it was heaving (it was Bastille Day) and wandered around the shops in the Village. Headed back to the hotel and had a rest during the early afternoon. Very hot day and too hot to be harassed and standing in queues. However, the cleaners had decided to ignore the do not disturb sign again and the two signs wed written in French and put on the beds asking them not to disturb. Very annoyed and ranted at the receptionist.
Headed back to the park around 4pm. Headed straight to BTM to use fastpass. Rode and decided we desperately needed a drink. Went to Au Chateau de la marionette for a drink. Sat in the darker room with the barrels for seats. Happily sat drinking my drink when I saw something move. I looked again and it was a mouse!! (and not a relation of Mickey or Minnie) Youve never seen me move so fast. I just hope they have a good pest control system in place in the kitchen. Im never sitting in a corner again!
Decided to ride POTC again as it was just around the corner but the queue had spread into the holding pens. Headed over to Casey and the Storybook ride and stopped for some popcorn on the way I really do love Disney popcorn. Rode the storybook ride even though there was a long queue there was only 5 of us in the boat! Wandered around Alices labyrinth and got very wet as everyone was playing with the water shoots.
Still really hot so went to Fantasia Gellitia for an ice cream. Midway through eating it when I realised they were setting up for a parade and Discoveryland would be cut off. Walked and ate and ended up outside Honey I shrunk the Audience. I hadnt been in this part of the park since the Michael Jackson thing was there that was really long ago. Loved the Kodak pre-show very funny, although I dont think I was laughing at the bits that were meant to be funny. Enjoyed the show a lot. Im now on a mission to dig out honey I shrunk the kids which Im sure we have on video somewhere!
Lots of criss-crossing across the park as our next stop was Aladdins walk (or whatever its called). Loved the little tableaus and I cant believe Ive never seen it before. In need of continuous indoorness so we attempted POTC again. Queue vanished and we walked up to the queuing system before we had to wait.
Headed to BTM to risk the normal queue. Didnt wait too long but some people decided that they didnt want to wait much longer and walked past the bin which blocks the outside aisle. That was it, everyone walked past it and that was the end of the fastpass line. I was really good and told the Cast Member who seated us in exchange for the front seat but it never got sorted. Id be really annoyed if I had a later fastpass.
Riverboats were finally working (for the first day of our trip) so we boarded the Mark Twain and had a peaceful ride around the lake. My sister demonstrated her lack of American cultural awareness by asking me who Mark Twain was. I, having done a degree in American Studies, indignantly told her he was a famous author and that she had to read his books. As we passed Phantom Manor I wondered if it was closed as there was no queue at all. We headed over after we got of the boat and found out that it was just quiet. We were first off the lift again and rushed to the doom buggies. It was really creepy as it was dusk outside so that made inside the ride darker. Plus we noticed things we hadnt before my sister jumped at the suit of armour. Off the ride and we realised that it was 10pm and we hadnt had any dinner. Everywhere was packed so we decided to wait a little bit and picked a spot for the fantillusion parade. Sat and watched parade then headed to Caseys to get dinner. The sister went off into the huddled masses to watch the 14th July fireworks while I guarded the food and bags. Watched fireworks with some strange old-style French music to accompany it. Ate hotdogs and wandered through the village back to our hotel. Very happy as we saw the buses drive past and they were packed to the rafters.
Day 5 Saturday 15th July
Got up around 8:30 and had breakfast. Got our bags packed and chilled in the hotel until we had to leave. Had the cleaners harass us 3 times before 11am, despite the fact checkout isnt until 12pm. We were going to go back to the park but my feet hurt a lot so I decided not too. Went to check out at 11am and enquired about the whereabouts of my towels. The line was since the towels get sent out to an external company there was no hope of finding my towels. I was offered the option of taking their towels whooo yes please. Ill take your cardboard towels and you keep my luxury soft and fluffy towels. What a swap! I declined and was given the name of the manager to complain to. He did want me to write my complaint there and then on a piece of paper in reception but I told him Id prefer to officially write.
Got to the station at 11:45 to discover that our train to Lille was delayed by 30 minutes. Completely useless to us as our connecting Eurostar train was leaving Lille 61 minutes after we were supposed to arrive so we couldnt be delayed. I noticed that there was another train to Lille at the same time so I decided that wed get on that one and feign innocence if anyone queried our tickets.
Had time for a quick last minute shop in the village. Made it back to the train station just as they announced the train had arrived. Bit of a manic rush to the platform and a mission to get the cases on the train as it was full of cases.
Got to Lille and headed straight to the Eurostar check-in. First to check-in though the electronic gates didnt like my sister. Fairly rapid journey home as train didnt stop in Ashford. Underground packed as it was a Saturday and was too busy with too many steps! I finally got home to Swindon at 8pm, and the sister got to Stockton at 10:40pm. One final event for our holiday my sister left her village shopping of the day on the bus so she is down two tinkerbell bags. The whereabouts of which are still unknown!!! (and its the 27th today!)
