Who: Me, DBF, My mom & dad, his mom, dad, and grandmother.
A little background: My parents and I have gone to Disneyland many times throughout my childhood, and I introduced Jared to the love of Disneyland and Mickey Mouse when we traveled to Disneyland after our high school graduations in 2003. His family has not been to Disneyland since 1990! This trip was planned as a quick weekend getaway, kind of a mid-semester (I am in an intense teacher prep program) break for me.
The trip actually began the evening of Thursday the 25th since I had class that afternoon and my dad wanted to take as little time off work as possible. So, six of us flew down to meet my mom who had attended a conference near the park earlier in the week. My parents, Jared (DBF) and I stayed at the GCH (our first stay here) while his parents and grandmother stayed at the BWPPI. Our flight left late, and by the time we arrived at LAX, we had missed the 10:00 pm shuttle to the resort. However, the next one came at 10:30, so we didnt have to wait too long. My dad, Jared and I arrived at the GCH around 11:30, and we were met by a bellhop who enthusiastically asked if we needed any assistance. Since we were already checked in (my mother stayed the night before at the hotel) we headed up to our room: 4351, park view of Grizzly Peak! Although our room was a bit on the small side, there was plenty of space for four adults, and the beds completely made up for the smaller room. Those beds are the most comfortable hotel beds I have ever slept on, and the pillows were fluffy! I love the little Disney touches like Bambi and Thumper on the shower curtain and characters on the do not disturb sign.
Friday morning, we got up and headed down to White Water Snacks for breakfast. My mom and I each had the French toast sticks while my dad and Jared each had the breakfast burrito. We were surprised at how much food we got for the money my mom and I could have split our breakfast and still been full. We then met Jareds family at the front gates of Disneyland and headed into the park. The first thing we did was head down Main Street. We found a photographer at the castle, and she pulled us off to the right side to take photos. I wish I had the photos now because there were some really cute ones! After our little photo session, we headed around to see how the line for Nemo was. YEA RIGHT!!! At least a 60-minute wait, and it was only 9:30. We decided to wait until Saturday during early admission to ride this. We then headed over to Autopia and Buzz. I had issues aiming on Buzz this time, and only got to level 3!
After Buzz, my mom said that we should all get a group photo by the castle, so we headed back over there, and I found the same photographer from earlier. She took us back to the right side of the castle, and did great with the group shots. We planned to split up at this point (Jared & I were going to upgrade to APs and everyone else would do what they want). However, we made a slight detour to the right side of the castle towards the wishing well. Snow White started singing, so my dad tells me to go do my thing (I pretend I am singing with it). As I walk over to the railing and watch the fish spinning around in the water (never noticed this before), I notice that everyone is following me, including the photographer. I knew something was going on, and I knew what would be happening very soon at this point. Jared came up next to me, and to calm my nerves, I pointed out the fish and the fact that the statues of Snow White and the dwarfs are all really the same size. He then says, I have a question for you. (Here it comes.) He then turns to me, opens his hand to reveal a beautiful ring and asks, Will you marry me? As soon as I saw the ring, I started crying and somehow got out Yes, Of course, or something like that! The photographer took photos as the proposal happened and more pictures of the two of us after. I wish I had got her name because she was really wonderful!
We spent most of the morning and early afternoon hanging out together, followed by a group lunch at the Blue Bayou. I have to say the Monte Cristo was not as good this time as it usually is, but the atmosphere and service were great as always. That evening, after taking a nap after lunch, we spent time in Toontown, Jared got to see Mickey Mouse, and we watched the fireworks, which were almost canceled because of winds.
Saturday morning we woke at 6:00 to get in for EE. We headed straight for Nemo, and only waited 40 minutes (partly because the ride was down for 20 minutes). All of us absolutely loved Nemo, and I loved the use of animated sequences combined with models in the water. I only wish I could have rode again this trip. We then traveled to Fantasyland, rode a few attractions, ate breakfast at the Carnation (YUM) where it began to sprinkle, shopped at the Emporium and headed back to the GCH to get our sweatshirts. Then it was off to DCA where we only waited 20 minutes for Soarin, got fast passes for Tower, rode Monsters Inc. and watched Turtle Talk. Five of us 9my parents, Jared, his mom, and I) rode tower (his moms first time). She totally freaked out when it started, and the picture was hilarious. Four of us smiling for the camera and her hanging on for dear life! Since it was now afternoon, my parents and I headed back to take a nap, after which the three of us watched the Aladdin show (Jared was riding stuff with his family). Jared and I spent the evening together in the park, and I finally got to ride Pirates with the new additions. Pretty cool! We didnt get back to the room until after midnight, so we ended up sleeping until nearly 9:00 Sunday morning. We finished packing, headed down to White Water Snacks for breakfast again (this time my mom and I split breakfast) and headed into the park for a few hours before heading back to LAX to go home. Overall the trip was enjoyable, even with the crowds on the weekend, and I loved seeing the parks decorated for Halloween. Plus, the proposal was a big highlight to the whole trip!
If you have any questions I will be more than happy to answer them!
