Friday, January 27

We left home at about midnight, and arrived at Saratoga Springs at 6:30 a.m. We decided to pre-check in, and lo and behold, our room was ready. We grabbed a quick breakfast at Artist’s Palette and then, after dumping our luggage in the room, caught the bus to Epcot. We arrived at the gate about 10 minutes before opening, and once inside, walked as quickly as we were able (which is not all that quickly, but it was good enough) to Soarin’. We asked for front row seats and were pleasantly accommodated by the cast members. After another AWESOME hang gliding adventure, we moved on to Journey Into Your Imagination and had a playful ride with Figment. After exiting the ride, we went into the Imageworks play area and had some fun in the area where you conduct music. A CM waved at us from across the room and we walked over to speak with him. As we talked, he was continually interrupted by Figment (all done with a remote control he had hidden in his hand) and we had a fun few minutes talking to him. Then we went to the kiosk where you take your picture and then morph yourself into something totally different from what you started with – we didn’t buy the picture, but it was fun to play with it for a bit.

Next we headed for Spaceship Earth, which is one of Larry’s favorite attractions. After riding this, Tara and I went on Mission Space while Larry waited outside for us (he gets sick on this ride). After our mission to Mars was complete, we began our leisurely walk around to the Japan pavilion at Epcot since we were having lunch today at Teppanyaki. We were seated with a couple from Boston who were at Disney World without their kids (and appeared to be having a great time) and an elderly mom with her adult daughter who were from Dallas (and also appeared to be having a great time). The chef was entertaining, doing a few tricks with the food, but he said he preferred to concentrate on his cooking and none of us could fault him for that – the food was excellent!

After lunch, we caught the boat to MGM Studios and then caught a bus to Animal Kingdom. Larry and I were anxious to ride Expedition Everest, since it was open this weekend for annual passholders and DVC members (and we are both, so we were chomping at the bit for this ride). Tara has a fear of heights, so she turned down this ride, but Larry and I LOVED it and would have ridden again if the line had not been so long. We did not plan to stay in the park long enough to use a fast pass for it, so we will have to enjoy it again on our next trip. I think it has now become my favorite roller coaster at Disney World, which is saying something since I have loved RnRC since I first rode it and it has been my favorite ride at Disney for some time.

After a brief rest in our room, we drove over to Wilderness Lodge and had dinner at Artist Point. The salmon and buffalo steak were very good, but the stand out for me was the no sugar added berry cobbler – it was SCRUMPTIOUS. The service was a bit slow, but all in all, we enjoyed this restaurant and will return again.

Saturday, January 28

This morning we are headed to MGM Studios. All three of us rode RnRC once, then Tara and I rode twice more while Larry waited for us. Next we wandered over to the Millionaire game. This was quite exciting for us – Tara came up on the board each time the scores were tabulated, but she was never high enough to get into the hot seat. We are hoping she will make it next time! Next was lunch at Sci-Fi, which we thoroughly enjoyed. Not only was the food very good, but the servers were a hoot – especially when they would recite the lines of the film clips before they were spoken, or react with shouts when they deemed it appropriate to the action on the screen. We would definitely eat lunch here again.

After lunch, we went back to Animal Kingdom hoping to ride Expedition Everest again, but the wait was over two hours long so we decided to wait until next time for a return trip to the Himalayas. Tara and Larry went to Downtown Disney from here to do some shopping, while I went over to see the Pocahontas show (which I have never seen before). I enjoyed the show, especially the antics of the animals, and then headed back to the room for a rest. Dinner tonight was at Flying Fish (a must do for us on each Disney trip). After waiting an hour (even with ADR’s, they were really busy tonight), we very much enjoyed our dinner and Bob, our server, was his usual crazy self.

Sunday, January 29

This morning after we checked out, we headed to the Polynesian to have breakfast with Lilo and Stitch. Stitch is Larry’s favorite Disney character, so he was very much looking forward to this meal. The food was excellent, but the characters were the best part! After friendly greetings from Mickey and Pluto (Tara got “licked” by Pluto and we have the cutest picture of her reaction), it was time to get pictures of Larry with Stitch. Stitch was particularly impressed with the fact that all three of us had on t-shirts with his picture on them. When Lilo came by to say hello, I told her that if Stitch acted up later on in the morning, it was my fault because I had given him coffee. She raised her arms in a “you did what???” kind of motion, then grabbed me by the shoulder and began shaking me back and forth (as in, what is WRONG with you??) – Tara went on to tell Lilo that she tried to stop me, but I just wouldn’t listen to her. Lilo walked away shaking her head at me and when she was leading the kids in the parade later on, she reached out and tapped me on the shoulder in an “I’m watching you” kind of way – we had lots of fun with this one and would definitely do another breakfast here in the future.

After breakfast, we headed over to Magic Kingdom and Larry and I rode Splash Mountain while Tara rode BTMRR. Splash Mountain was a lot of fun, particularly since it had recently been down for refurbishment and we both noticed that there were a few small changes to the ride. Nothing drastic, but definitely different if you have ridden it as many times as we have. It was great fun to ride, and I am looking forward to riding Pirates after that refurbishment as well (I hear they are going to put some new stuff in that ride along with Captain Jack Sparrow’s likeness). After our respective rides on the Disney “mountains,” we made our way into Fantasyland for It’s a Small World (Larry’s favorite ride because it was the first ride we rode together on our honeymoon in 1984), Peter Pan and Pooh. We wanted to spend more time in Magic Kingdom, but we had to get on the road and head back to Atlanta. Our weekend trip was short, but we enjoyed it very much and will continue to take these short trips as often as possible – they are a great way to get a Disney fix until you get a chance to stay for a week!

Thanks for reading.
