This trip report is overdue. I will try to keep it short and hit the highlights. DH (44) and myself (49) spent a phenomenal week at the Old Key West resort in January. The atypically warm weather was on our side. We had 80 degrees 6 out of 8 days and plenty of sunshine.
This was a resort hopping and relaxing trip. We wanted to see all the Disney resorts we had never visited, do a day at MK and Disney Quest (never been to Disney Quest) and generally just enjoy the break from NY weather.
Day 1 we got to the resort around lunch time. We had a one bedroom condo, unit 3837. We were fortunate to be able to check in early, so dropped off the luggage and went off to explore the grounds. OKW has a neat waterfront area and marina, and their restaurant Olivia's, along with the reception building, snack shop/bar, and gift shop etc. all line the waterfront. Small boats take passengers to Downtown Disney, which is fun. We had lunch at Olivia's where we enjoyed good food and a cheerful Key West color scheme and memorabilia. Steel drum music and other appropriate tunes lend a relaxed, island feel to the surroundings. After checking out the gift shop we took the boat to Downtown Disney and had a great time exploring the variety of Disney theme shopping and the general themeing and ambiance of the restaurants, shops, and landscaping. Then it was time to stop at Ghiradelli Chocolate for a couple of hot fudge sundaes that tasted as good as they looked. We spent a bit more time at DTD, then headed back to our resort for coffee from the refillable Disney mugs we had purchased there, and after relaxing with coffee at the picnic tables by the waterfront we headed back to our condo to unpack and relax. At 9:00 we could see fireworks over the trees at Epcot. We finished the day watching "It's a Bug's Life" on the Disney channel.
