Hi, again! Yup, we went once more, but just Mom and I since Christine was out of town for the weekend. We're trying to go as much as possible since the 50th theme will be ending soon. It's become sort of a escape for us, escape from reality.
This day was LOADS of fun, and I once again must record it down so that I can remember it bit by bit. First up, we had to EAT! Breakfast was hours ago (I had a 1 a.m. to 10 a.m. shift and ate at 6:30 a.m. that day!) and we arrived at the park at 1:40 in the afternoon. It was very hot out in direct sunlight, but I assured Mom it was only because we arrived at the hottest part of the day. We had our coats wrapped around our waists just to be on the safe side.
We headed straight to NOS in DL to get a table at Café Orleans. We craved a Monte Cristo meal. Our waitress was VERY nice. She didn't do a split charge for us and checked on ingredients for Mom since she has allergies. We were seated outside and right behind the pirate's little stage. They came out just in time to put on their routine of singing songs, talking about this land of 'Dis-nay' and being quite humorous. What a fun little show to sit through as we ate our food!
After eating, POTC was too long of a wait and I had been wanting to visit Toontown. Hadn't been there in ages. We cut through Frontierland into Fantasyland, stopping to jump on Snow White and then Pinocchio. As we reached Toontown, we thought about going on It's A Small World for the heck of it. I noticed a lot of people were lined up for the Parade of Dreams (which was starting at 3:30) but we kept on walking up to IASW. There was NO line, we couldn't resist.
Great thing to mention! We went to get in line for IASW and noticed the Parade of Dreams getting ready to come out through the back gates! I knew about the entrance of where the floats came from but NEVER knew people in line for IASW could get that close and watch the show! I stood with some others and got my camera ready, taking as many pictures as I could. It was awesome! Feeling satisfied, we continued down the ramp to the boarding zone and got a full boat to ourselves! The ride operator told us we had to sit in the third row to keep the boat balanced.
Next, onto TOONTOWN! I wanted to ride Roger Rabbit Cartoon Spin and so did Mom. The wait time was 30 minutes, but a Fast Pass return said 4:45-5:45. It was only a little after 4 and we craved a frozen yogurt from Clarabelle's. We got the FP's and went to get our dessert. Here's another cool moment. We went and sat at a table near the City Hall red doors. All of sudden, the clock started going crazy, and that means some Disney characters were going to come out and say hello. Pluto and Goofy came charging out of the doors. Goofy went straight forward down the stairs while Pluto immediately spotted us and went to get our dessert! He loomed over the table and made scooping movements as if he was eating my Yummy Sundae! I laughed and lifted a spoonful of my treat. It wasn't chocolate, so it was safe for him!
Then, we had a little time to browse around the Gag Factory. While in the store, I was having a Disney Afternoon blues and would have loved to have seen SOME merchandise of it! Even better would be to see the costumed characters roaming around. The only character I had an up close and personal encounter with was Bonkers in 1994. I was soooooo happy to meet him yet my one picture posing with him didn't come out! Or, it would have been great if a brat hadn't rushed in to try and get his autograph!
After riding Roger Rabbit, we left to go back through Frontierland and back to NOS to see the line for POTC. Funny, it was like a back track to there and nowhere else! POTC was still crowded and I was fine if we didn't get on it that day. We made a turn over to Adventureland and got over to the Enchanted Tiki Room just as the gods were being announced outside. A few nights ago, Christine and I caught the version in Florida on YouTube with Zazu and Iago. Holy buckets! They ruined a classic indeed! We were so shocked at how horrible it was that I told Mom we needed to pop inside to see the show the RIGHT way!
Then, we felt DCA needed a quick run-through. As we headed to Main Street, we saw Mickey standing near the flag pole for a photo opportunity. It would be a great picture since the background would be facing Sleeping Beauty Castle at a distance. Mom had to hit the restroom first, but we SHOULD have gotten the photo before that! By the time we got over there, the CM said Mickey had to leave and blocked the last person in line so that no others could wait! The CM looked our way and we backed off, understanding we couldn't get a picture this time. I was quite bummed and wondered if he would be back later on the day. That was IF we decided to return to DL after DCA.
Entering DCA, we headed straight to Mike and Sulley to the Rescue since we hadn't done it in awhile. 10 minute wait. Not bad at all! What happened next was pure Disney heaven. We went into the Animation Building (with the Sorcerer Mickey hat on top) and watched ALL of the animation clips in that big room. I wanted to see how many there were. We sat on a comfy couch and just watched the beautiful animation, stills, even rough sketches, appear on the walls. And the music for each film.... *sighs* Some of it made me cry in my seat, that's how moving the music can be. I tried to be strong, but it's very hard to do.
We took a walk over to Off the Page (next door) and Mom really really really wanted to purchase a DVD titled "The Best of the Mickey Mouse Club." It's about 2 hours in length of some of the highlights of the series. She used to watch it as a kid and couldn't pass up the price. With her Premium discount, it made getting it even better.
Next, it was getting darker out and I had a 4 a.m. shift the next day. I wanted to hit DL once more to try and get that picture with Mickey. He wouldn't be near the flag pole, nor be in view of Sleeping Beauty Castle. At that time, he would be standing near the Mad Hatter's Hat Shop. I'm starting to learn all of the character's meeting spots. When we returned, he wasn't there just yet. We went to get a Coke at the fruit stand (for the drive home for me to stay awake) and Mom hit the restroom once more. By that time, Mickey was by the hat shop and we went to get our picture. It was the same CM as before (oops!) and I hope she didn't recognize us!
Finally, it was time to go home and to end yet another great day at DL and DCA!
