I'll try to make this short and to the point.
there were 5 of us:
ME
Hubby
20 yr old daughter
17 yr old daughter
14 yr old daughter
This was our very first vacation! We had a wonderful time!
We stayed at the LIKI TIKI RESORT, which was beautiful and newly rentivated. wonderful pools and a water park.
Sat. 6/14 we just arrived, checked in and had steaks there at the resort.
Sun 6/15, Father's day What we thought would be the highlight of our trip...We had a late lunch at Emiril's Choup Chop at 2:00pm.
When we arrived at the Royal Pacific Resort, we were duly impressed. It was beautiful. We went in to be seated, and in front of us was a terribly rude woman in a bathing suit.(I hoped at the time it wasn't anyone on this board) she was almost yelling at the poor man at the check in. She was insisting she had called for reservations, and that she insisted she told them her horribly behaved children MUST sit by the water. Finally we were seated. It was beautiful of course. Smaller than I expected. The wait staff were wonderful and professional, silver ware exchanged ect.. down to taking and replacing water glasses before dessert! I was impressed! now for the food.
I decided to have the shrimp everyone talked about and a tchoup chop salad as my entree, shrimp was a wonderful choice, the salad, baaaadd, only get this if you enjoy a STRONG ginger dressing, and I usually like ginger. I had the COCONUT CREME BRULEE. ABSOLUTLY WONDERFUL!
Hubby had the pork dish, can't remember the name. He really enjoyed this. and for dessert he had the cheesecake, and it was good.
20 yr old had the sword fish with mango sauce and it was Great. (the best dish of all) and the praline dessert, which was "pretty" and good
17 yr old had fried rock shrimp salad & the other shrimp appitiser, which was good, but small and creme brulee which she loved
14 yr old had Emiril's Fried Rice which was very, very good. and for dessert the ooey gooey brownie which she loved.
I was kind of disappointed in the quality and quantity.
All this came to $126.00 and a 20.00 tip. Maybe I'm just cheap.
But it was an experience for the girls who enjoyed it.
Mon 6/16 we went to Universal, and it was HOT. Shreck was down for the first 15 mins after opening, and then within 10 mins literally, all express tix were gone FOR THE REST OF THE DAY. So were content on seeing everything else. The Monster Makeup show was really good and cute. Twister set was realistic. and I never heard my husband yell like a girl (he was a Marine for 18 yrs) until the Jaws ride ;) all in all a very tiring day in all that heat. We left early to go to the ALL YOU CAN EAT LOBSTER BUFFET! I of course feeling I had to get my money's worth after Emiril's, eat 6 lobster tails. THEY WERE SMALL!! nOT LIKE THEY WERE the 3 pounders or anything. Now I got my money's worth there. It was very good for 20.00 per person.
Tues 6/17 we went to IOA, it was HOT again, so we let the girls have at it, while we just found a cool place to hide. I did ride the merry go round in suess land, which I highly recommend. Get one that wiggles it's ears, It's more fun!
and then off to SPLENDID CHINA, DO NOT, DO NOT go there for the food. As a matter of fact, don't eat it. It was worse than gross! BUT DO GO FOR THE SHOW! I am convinced it is Orlando's
best kept secret. those performers were better than any olympic athlets. the upper body strength was no less than amazing. I set there with my mouth open. It was truly amazing. Don't Miss this show. But remember DON'T EAT THE FOOD!
wED was a rest day, nothing great, it rained
Thur our resort had a luah, alot of fun AND it rained
Fri was Arabian nights, wonderful show! food was only so-so, I didn't know prime rib could be so tough.
and SAT was time to go home, but one more surprise for the girls, we stop at the BOARDWALK and go to BEACHES AND CREAM, with the discount tickets I bought thru CONNECTIONS, I saved ALOT OF MONEY with these, 11.25 ea. ticket and our total bill came to 105.00 without tax & tip. but I only paid 57.00 for all 5 discount tickets, which included the tax aand the tip! Now that is a savings. So if you are going to DISNEY or to eat at any of the resorts, these tickets are well worth the 11.25 ea. AND THE FOOD WAS WONDERFUL, everyone loved the food, chicken sandwiches and rib eye subs, with the biggest desserts I've ever seen. CHOCOLATE MUD SLIDS! they are to die for!
All in All a wonderful time and Good food.
As I look back on this, it seems I had more of a Food vacation than a theme park vacation!!

;)
After seeing all of those Hotels on the board walk, I am starting to save NOW to go there. I can see where if you stay there, you'd never want to stay anywhere else again!:)

WE finally got in to see Shrek and then Jimmy Neutron. If you can only see one. See Jimmy Neutron. Shrek would not have been worth a 90 min wait! We finally got express tickets the next day for it. and also for jimmy. It was very, very cute.
And I did notice alot of people buying those express ticket books. I guess they're worth it, if all the new rides are out of express tix, 10 mins. after the park opens

Thanks for the report, Desi!

I don't think you're cheap - for almost $150, a meal better be really, really good! I have ressies at Tchoup Chop for our November trip and I'll probably keep them just for the experience, but I've been hearing mixed reviews.

Thanks for sharing - Wonderful reviews!!!!

Hi Desi..we are staying at Liki Tiki in August (our second time there). Last time, there was major construction on that main road (492???) to WDW/Universal. Was it over..and how was the commute?

So the luau is a fun time? Does it include food and what is the charge if you remember?

Thanks for your trip report..any info on Liki Tiki will be appreciated.

Lisa

HI Lisa,
There was no construction there on 192. The drive was not bad at all.
The luah was 20.00 ea or 18.00 if you paid by Wed. before the luah on Thur. The show was fun and the girls liked it. It was inside the main building, because of so much rain, so it was kinda crowded. But I must admit the food was not good. I was very hungry and still couldn't eat most of it! The luah started at 6:45 and because we were in the bungalows right across from the building, I noticed they brought the food and set up about 2:30 or 3:00, that's a long time for food to set under a warmer!
But we really liked it there, and are thinking of a time share there.
Do you have one with them? How do they treat you if you own and are not paying big bucks just to "rent" for the week?
thanks and have fun!
