The recent Yosemite post made me think about our plans for next year.
It seems it's back to the US. We've currently booked a Disney 7 night Caribbean cruise on the Magic for Nov 2014. Thing is, we're not sure if that time could be better spent exploring more of the country. At the moment we're spending:
1 week in NYC
2 weeks in Disney World
1 week on the Disney Magic.

Our second option is to spend:
3-4 days in San Francisco visiting Disney Family Museum
2 Days in Yosemite
1 week in NYC
2 weeks in Disney World.

How would a cruise compare with San Fran and Yosemite in your opinions?

What are your interests, RC?

How and where you go comes down to what your family likes to do and see.

I personally prefer the Great Outdoors and hitting the National Parks. The US is a very big country and their national parks are just amazing. And until this coming trip, it's been hard to plan an outdoorsey trip because of DS. He's finally at an age where he can deal with his parents wanting to traipse around countryside more than around citysights.

That is a hard decision to make RC, both options look attractive for different reasons.

Yay for you PIO. I have been glancing over some of the 1/2 day and longer hikes in Yosemite. As it turns out we don't really have time for them anyway ,but even if we did, still not quite an option with our youngest ( she would cope , but she would complain!). I really like the sound of hiking down from Glacier Point to the valley floor, but will have to be content with some of the shorter valley floor walks this trip.

I have to ease my 13 y.o. into it. I'm planning on a half day hike at Sedona, all flat; but he's already grumbling about the 7 mile roundtrip walk. It's even money right now as to whether he'll go the distance or whether I'll go the distance with the whining. :rotfl:

we've never cruised and probably wont for similar reasons, there is so much to see on land. san fran and yosemite are beautiful and would be a good combo with NY and Florida. We are looking at something similar since the kids were small when we went to san fran last time.

if you enjoy nature then yosemite is wonderful, but the accomodation is very expensive for what you get.

some seem to obsessed with cruises maybe they can offer more advice.

Two very different holidays to choose from, best idea have another week then you can do it all:rotfl:

do you have kids if so how old are they??
Mine also whinge and whine a bit when they are doing boring stuff, we did SF and Yosemite when our kids were 5and 7, but really they were there because they had to be and they were going to DL at the end of the trip.

I think my kids would have loved a Disney cruise, they have only cruised once before around the south pacific which they really enjoyed due to a variety of things to do. Throw Disney into the picture and they would have loved it.
It's a great way to end a holiday.

Decisions.....decisions.....

No kids, just us adults. Gives us freedom to explore!

I have wanted to see the US wilderness for a while now and although my initial desire was to visit Yellowstone, Yosemite is the compromise as it's easier to get to from somewhere like San Fran.

My concern on the cruise would be pure boredom. I'm very active and although we're a Disney Family the Parks allow us to run around like headless chooks if we want to. Holidays for me are about seeing/doing as much as I can and I need a relaxing holiday when I get back from holiday.

Definitely do SF and Yosemite then, it really is a lovely part of the country:thumbsup2

I think this is the conclusion we've both come to as well. We saw a few walkthroughs of the Disney Magic on YouTube and our response was a resounding 'meh' regarding the ship and what it offers. There's so many things to see and explore in the US!
