Our next trip home is in August at the BCV. Since last August was so bad for hurricanes, do I need to get trip insurance for my points in case something happens? Member Services would only give me a phone number and no specifics.

If you are only worried about Hurricanes, DVC was very understanding when it came to cancellations last year. They even allowed borrowed points to go back into their original use year. Who knows if they will be this good in the future, but if past performance is any indication........

As usual, I agree with HBC. Please try to bear in mind that the weather systems WDW saw last year were totally unprecedented in the history of the resort. I may be wrong, but I don't believe they EVER had a park closure due to weather before 2004--and last year there were two separate closures.

Regarding the trip insurance, be sure to research carefully before you take that leap. Admittedly I've not looked into it myself, but I've read here that they only reimburse $5 per point (which is pretty low) and that there is a specific list of valid reasons for cancellation that would permit a claim to be filed.
