We will be going to Disney World next year in late August - Prime hurricane season. (It's the only time we can possibly go). We will need full trip interruption and cancellation insurance (we have medical). Where is the best place to get it from? How does it work - do we buy it before our flights/hotel/ext? or After? Right now we are planning to stay at a VRBO or in a rented trailer at Camp Wilderness - how does trip insurance work with those places?
Thanks!

Usually you purchase cancellation insurance at the time of booking. I am a travel agent and I always recommend that my clients purchase their trip cancellation directly from me. If it ever goes into a claim situation, I can assist with the forms and provide all documentation directly to the insurance carrier. I cannot provide this service if they purchased it elsewhere.

All agents are different, so I can only speak as to how we do things. As for the VRBO or rented trailer - I would require a copy of the rental agreement which clearly outlines the cancellation fee schedule. Provided that the terms are within reason, we would calculate the cost of the rental into the insured amount of the policy and issue it accordingly. The cost of the premium is going to depend on your age, the length of travel and the total amount that would need to be paid out should you cancel.

Check your credit card(s). Many of them have some travel insurance as a member benefit. They do have limits on them but you may be able to pay extra to up the coverage. This only works if you use your credit card for your bookings/flights, etc. Also check with your bank or wherever you buy your home insurance.

For VRBO or HomeAway, you should buy renter's insurance, not just travel insurance, to cover any accidental property damage that you /your kids cause.
www.vacationrentalinsuarnce.com covers both renter and travel insurance (flight cost, rental car cost, etc). You can pick the coverages you would like. The insurance company behind it is CSA TRAVEL PROTECTION and you can call them directly for advice.

CSA TRAVEL PROTECTION is #1 rated on this reviews site: http://travel-insurance-review.toptenreviews.com/
That is how we found CSA.

I have been pricing out trip cancellation and interruption insurance for our upcoming cruise. If you are a Costco member you can get a good rate through Manulife (go to the Costco Canada website). We don't need medical either - we are adequately covered through extended health plans, but I did find out I can also purchase trip cancellation from them as well.

For the cruise I just have to make sure I buy the insurance before I pay the cruise off in full but in your situation I think it may be within 7 days of booking your trip.

Enjoy your vacation!

I get my travel medical with Blue Cross. We havr our extended with them thru work. But I get travel medical because our Extended has a lifetime limit. I don't want to risk loosing it if I had a serious illness/injury while in the US.

For trip interruption we go thru Bcaa. It's cheaper then Blue cross. We go in hurricane season too.
