I have never gotten trip insurance, but after getting sick on my return home Saturday..and still being sick.. I am considering it for our October trip. For those that get it do you go through Disney or choose another company? On Mousesavers they mentioned ***************** and said that many companies cover more than Disney does. Any opinions on this?

We always buy it and so far have never needed to use it but you just never know. I've read plenty of stories here about unexpected things happening, including but not limited to illness. My cousin was just vacationing on the Outer Banks this past week when Arthur struck. I'm sure vacation insurance, if you have the right policy, would get a reimbursement either for the rental or for the hotel they had to move to when they were evacuated.

My understanding is that Disney insurance only covers the Disney portion of your trip, so if you're going to Universal or spending some time at the beach, you'd want to get coverage for all of it and would need to do it through another agency.

we got trip insurance for our upcoming Oct. trip, we rented DVC points. Be aware that most of the policies I looked at did not allow "cancel for any reason" unless you purchased the insurance within something like 10 days of the first payment for your vacation.

So you will likely only be covered for cancellation due to severe illness / death / hurricane / maybe loss of job, etc...

Insuremytrip was the site I used, it allows for comparing coverages across multiple policies. I think our plan covers 8,000 for four people, and was approx. $175. Just be sure to check the coverages!

We buy AIG Travelguard. The terms are spelled out between the various levels of coverage on their web site. We had to use it due to illness and they paid the extra airfare and hotel, and the 3 day hospital co-pay. I provided all the documents they initially asked for and they paid in 2-4 weeks with no problems.

We insure all WDW vacations this way. Although the underlying problems that caused the hospital stay (2 extra days) are virtually non-existent for now.

I would not get the trip insurance Disney offers. Go to a third party to make sure everything you need covered is covered.

I had never purchased insurance prior to this trip, but do to health concerns I have now I bought it for my November trip. I think its a good idea.

I bought mine from Allianz which will cover pre-existing conditions if I bought it so many days after I booked the trip. I read that many companies don't cover this. For me its a good buy. I found out about this company here with other people recommending it.

I really wish I'd had this on prior trips when I've been so sick and had to pay a small fortune just to get home early.

I've purchased the insurance through Disney. It covered our additional expenses when a hurricane hit and our flight home was canceled. We had to stay an additional day. Our food, hotel, and airport parking were covered. The only thing not covered was the additional day of boarding for our animals. It also would have covered our flight changes, but we were flying Southwest and they re-booked us for no additional cost.

I have also used insure my trip dot com and I liked the fact that you can compare policies, price and coverage.

So many people believe that if they have trip insurance they can get reimbursed for anything, even if they simply change their mind and don't want to take the trip. This is not true- you can only collect under the conditions clearly stated in the policy you purchased. I was shocked when my Disney insurance policy didn't cover cancellations due to hurricanes (this was years ago - I see the PP had coverage for this). Now I know to check what's covered before I buy.

I've purchased the insurance through Disney in the past. We have never had to use it but during our last trip, the couple we went with, his appendix ruptured. They had to stay an additional week before the doctor would let them fly home. It covered all their additional expenses (food, hotel, flight changes and medical). They were extremely pleased with the insurance through Disney and they said it was extremely easy to work with for their claims and they were very generous. They said the $152 they spent on the insurance was well worth.

Originally i chose not to purchase the trip insurance offered thru WDW since we both have pre-exsiting medical conditions. Sure wish i had read the actual documentation since if i had bought it when i made my reservation that condition is actually WAIVED :sad2:

Had to call them last week after my dad was given a "rotten diagnosis" to find out if we would be covered if we either couldn't go or needed to return earlier. No problem i was told so long as we provided documentation after the fact since he is not traveling with us. Bonus feature i discovered ... it includes car rental insurance and since we have booked it through Airmiles our credit card does NOT provide this so that gives me reason for a little dance :cool1:

I was also extremely pleased with the total cost since the cheapest i could find on my own was close to 1,000 <thud> and this is only $76.00 p.p. So my thoughts? Give the insurance company a call and ask all of your questions, then it is a simple call to WDW reservations to add it, easy-peasy!! Only thing i need to add is medical insurance since we are from Canada and it only includes transportation within the States if WE become ill and need to get home!! I can do that thru CAA for a mere pittance.
