I know we have brought this up numerous times and there is difference of opinions on it, but here's why I now think its an important product to purchase.

Besides the fact that a colleague of mine met with a serious car accident while in Florida last year and is still not back to work this year, my sister almost did not come with us on our weekend getaway last week because of the flooding in Toronto! If her DH did not cut back his business trip, she would have had to stay back. She did not get the insurance because this was a very last minute trip, but she would have still lost quite bit of money!

I am now a firm believer in buying insurance. JMHO:)

We've used ours a half dozen times. We always buy it if a trip is going to cost more than $1000. That is any bigger trip when you have 6 people.

I have bought travel insurance for the past 15 years. I get the annual insurance as I live very close to the US border, so go over at least once a week. I pay less than $100 a year for this.

I have never had to use my insurance. It's always that safety blanket knowing you are covered. Until my DCL cruise this past January. I ended up very sick while on board and required medical treatment for 2 days, with an ambulance trip to the local hospital upon arriving at port. Without insurance, this would have cost me almost $10000. I have not come close to spending this on yearly travel insurance.

I am a HUGE supporter of insurance. You may not need it. But when you do, you will be VERY happy to have it.:thumbsup2

I have and always will travel with medical insurance. Anything can happen with kids.

There are non medical insurance packages and I won't buy trip insurance for that personally because the likelihood of us not going outweighs the cost of the insurance. There would have to be extreme circumstances for that to happen.

I would not travel without out of country medical insurance and interruption/cancellation especially if I had to cancel or return if something happened to one of my parents.

Interruption/cancellation is also good in cases where a highway is closed and you are stuck and can't get to the airport on time. I was on the 401 for three hours one day last summer and went a total of 40 kilometers. A WDW trip I would probably not get cancellation/interruption because you can pay extra fees to reschedule a flight fairly easily and rooms can be moved. A DCL cruise on the other hand does not have a change option so I'd buy interruption/cancellation for that.

In 2010, my daughter busted her ankle while attending a camp in Maine (after our trip to Disney World thank GOODNESS!!) Heres the link to the thread -- gotta love the internet nothing goes away!)

If we had not had insurance -- that situation would have been an absolute nightmare -- as it was -- all I ended up having to do was sign a few papers -- i dont even know if there was any recovery attempts --- the insurance company paid everything and went away -- so we will ALWAYS purchase insurance!!

We always purchase travel medical insurance, it's just not worth thinking about if something happened and you were NOT insured!!

We are driving down to DL in a month and will purchase travel medical (obviously not cancellation as there is no flight etc). That being said, I don't usually shop around for the best deal and usually just go to my closest insurance place to buy it.

Check with your employers. Both my hubby and I have full medical coverage for our family. Lots of coverage and no additional cost!

I pay a small amount for out of country medical coverage.

I only use RBC for travel insurance. You can not compare apples to apples with insurance. What seems like a good price may not cover every eventuality.
