Any recommendations? We relied on our plan back in 2008 that we purchased from Disney. My son needed a doctor and it reimbursed us for everything...even the motrin and antibiotic we bought for his fever.....ear infection.

In 2008 my wife required 3 nights at the hospital in Celebration (highly recommended). We had bought AIG TravelGaurd insurance and they paid, without question: difference in airfare, my 2 extra days in a hotel, and our entire deductible for the hospital. Over all about $2200. But read the fine print. TravelGuard is pretty clear on what they do and don't cover and don't assume anything if you are not sure.
They have various levels of coverage and many if not all exclude pre-existing health conditions. Again, make sure you read it.
What kind of trip are you taking? I usually don't insure trips unless they're cruises or land trips out of the US. I am willing to self-insure most trips in the US that don't involve pre-paid packages with hefty cancellation penalties. When I buy trip insurance, it's from the Trip Insurance Store: www.tripinsurancestore.com.
My son developed an ear infection mid vacation. we did get reimbursed for the doctor visit to the room....$250 plus his medications. for us it was worth it. Also if there would be a family emergency I'm sure it would benefit us to have it.
