Is it possible for me to get trip insurance on a rented point trip? I've done a search, but it seems to be down. I think a saw this mentioned in the past, but I can't find it. Thanks

I purchased trip insurance last year for a Disney Cruise I booked with points. We purchased the insurance thru Travel Guard (they insured us at a rate of $5 per point). I had to buy a separate policy thru them for our airfare since we did not book it thru MS.

$5 per point for insurance ??? Since points are selling for $10, that means the insurance cost 50% of the cost of the points..is this right or am I missing something here ? I thought trip insurance was fairly reasonable, but I would not consider a 50% premium to be reasonable. Help me out on this one !!

OK...I get it...I'm a bit slow this AM..the insurance coverage was $5 per point, not the premium...NEVER MIND !!!!

The DVC sent me a flyer for travel insurance that covers points with my latest reservation confirmation. It looks like it's through Travel Guard. I've already got travel insurance for the non-DVC portion of our trip, so I'm really wondering if it's worth it to get this. Anyway, the number is 866-690-6858. It looks like the cost is determined by the following equation:

# of Vacation Points x $5 = Reimbursement Amount
Reimbursement Amount x 5.15% = Insurance Premium

It looks like our 263 point stay would cost us $67.72 for insurance.
