Hi there -- I am planning on getting trip insurance for our July 2, 2005 sailing to Mexico, but not sure if I should go through DCL or the other suggestions that I've read (i.e. insuremytrip.com)

Is there a really big difference in price? I tried to look at the DCL website, but couldn't find the cost of the insurance they provide.

I'm swaying more towards getting it w/ DCL just so there's not much hassle later.

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!!!

I beleive there is a big price diffrence between DCL insurance and other travel insurances that are available. I don't know from experience on what coverage is best...but from advice of our TA...she recomended we go with a diffrent company..(Travel Guard) for less cost and better coverage. After doing some research...the coverage does apear to be better...and the cost of the insurance was WAY lower.... One word of advice..if you have ANY pre-excisting illnesses get your travel insurance within the first two week of deposit....because they will be covered...(With Travel guard at least)

Thanks scrapperjill, I'll look into Travel Guard. I do want to get the cheapest price, but I also want to make sure we have no problems later if we ever have to cancel and collect on the insurance.

Thanks again!

check out www.insuremytrip.com they will give you many different options. Most policies will cover airfare as well, except for excluded carriers.

I believe DCL will only cover cruise costs and nothing else. Although I may corrected on this.

Check out that site and compare. Good luck.

(we used Travelex Lite for our last cruise)

In general I like Travel Guard, but several 3rd party insurance companies are good.

DCL insurance is limited on what cancellations reasons are covered, and I don't think it covers you missing the ship due to a late flight if you booked your own air (they only cover it if you book your air through DCL).

Travel Guard has two cruise packages - cruise only, and cruise/tour/travel (basically covering any of your land based and air costs).

I don't know from experience...but our TA said Travel Gurad is very easy to work with...if needed. And like the previous poster mentioned they do offer a couple diffrent packages...ones more basic (but I'm thinking it's adaquate)...while the other has a bigger coverage on just about everything...like more $ for lost luggage, trip delays and even more medical.

We purchased the DCL insurance on both of our cruises with them. One the morning we were to fly down to Orlando for the first cruise, my daughter had been up all night and was too sick to go. I called DCL and they said we could just postpone our cruise to another date and pay any difference in fare, but there would be no penalties because we had the trip protection insurance. I did not really compare this to other policies, but it worked well for us in this case.
