Ok, so I have never done this, but booking for peak hurricane season, I guess it will be a smart thing to do... so do I buy from Disney when I book or someone mentioned another place to get it too.. I forget the site name tho. Anyone know what is the best approach to buy ins for this trip in Aug?

TIA

TravelGuard is another popular company for trip insurance.

www.travelguard.com

You only need insurance coverage for NON-REFUNDABLE expenses. If you can cancel your hotel at the last minute without penalty or minimal penalty and you can get credit for future travel with the airline (usually has to be used within 1 year) it may not be worth it to buy trip insurance.

what is disney's policy in case a hurricane messes with my trip?? Either my flight or whatever? Anyone know? And can I add it later?

When can I purchase it from other co's? edit to add looks like travelguard is 15 days from date of deposit.

You should be able to purchase insurance from TravelGuard beyond 15 days after the initial deposit - you're just not covered for pre-existing medical conditions and financial default (airlines, tour operators, etc). I think this is pretty standard with all of the insurance companies.

Travelguard is one of the choices on insuremytrip.com, so be sure to check that site too. I know I had to purchase my insurance within 30 days of initial deposit (I choose a company called Travelex). We aren't getting the insurance for WDW, but we did purchase it for our cruise last year, and for our trip to Mexico this summer.

I believe I was told with the Disney insurance that they cover non-refundable expenses only; meaning if your flight doesn't go, you get a credit or refund so it's not non refundable. With Travelex, I was told even if I receive a credit, I get my airfare refunded because a credit is not a refund.

I called and asked about insurance since we are traveling during the hurricane season and the cm told me that since we did a package (free dining) we are automatically covered with insurance for the package. We didn't book our airfare with wdw so that isn't included in the package but hotel, tickets and meals are. She said if something were to happen that we would fill out a form with the company disney uses and we would be refunded.

Hope this saves someone some $

Ok I think what she meant was that you did get their insurance which is automatically put in the price ofthe package, ie. when I did my package online, It showed included, but I could decline and the price dropped by $59.95! So you paid 59.95 for that coverage. I did not get theirs since my air is not booked with them. I will have to shop around now. But I wanted you to know how it worked with Dis online.

I believe the previous poster is correct. There is no free insurance. You either paid for it without realizing it, or you have none at this point. I would check.

Well.................isn't that interesting! They didn't give me a choice then or even tell me I had it. I called to inquire about purchasing it and was told it was automatically included with the package. Like it was a freebie. :rotfl2: I just booked last Sunday so i'll to check my paperwork when it comes to see if anything is written about it. Seems like they should have discussed it with me if it was an extra $59.95. I would have taken it. We've gone the last two years during september and both times we just happened to pick an off hurricane/storm week so I figure this year we can't be that lucky again.

Yep just be well imformed. I just booked and was looking into that insurance, hence the post here... so that is how I know the charge. Crafty aren't they :confused3

I didn't get insurance yet, I have to do that tho! Have a great trip!!

ok I gotta get this this weekend. I have MYW thru dis, hotel and park tix free meal plan. Then I got flight seperatly. So do I insure them together? What do I really need? I just do not want to be out the $$ of the cost of flight and trip is all.

Generally,
When you buy insurance it covers your entire trip, thus you do not need seperate insurance for your air and hotel/tickets. When you call to book, verify that with the insurer. I booked my insurance through Disney, but some folks think you can get a better deal elsewhere. The Disney is comperable to most I have seen in the past. The big thing is to check if they cover "pre-existing" medical conditions if you think its necessary.

Be sure to read the fine print. I've seen policies that only cover weather if the airport is shutdown more than 24 hours.

Thanks! I see most do not include medical... do I need medical? I have ins for that don't I with my regular med coverage.

the 59.99 is per person not for the trip. cancell wdw insurance and rebook via insure my trip. Their cost will be total for your group. Your private insurance my cover medical but these plan will cover what your insurance do not pay.Since you are still in the USA and not on a cruise check with your medical plan to see about coverage out of state. Some plan on in- sure- my trip will give you a AAA discount.

I didn't get dis ins. I am going to go thru insuremytrip
