We are going on a trip this XMAS (I know a little later than I would like to get insurance). We will be staying 5 nights at our home resort (on points) and then we are going on a 7 night cruise (used our points for the adults in the cabin). I believe we have used travelguard (the one Disney recommends) before but when I started looking at their coverage there was one item that seemed to be missing ~ being denied boarding on the DCL due to a contagious disease (i.e. flu, strep, etc.) or if we get sick while on the cruise being contained to our room.

So my question is this ~ does anyone know of trip insurance company that would reimburse for the above scenarios? Obviously there are other "stuff happens" that we would like be covered for but those two scenario's are high on my list due to the time of year we are traveling.

My other question is more related to a trip insurance that reimburses some monetary value for the DVC points themselves - similar to travel guard - but if we didn't want to use travel guard?

TIA

Ooops -- sorry, I can't post links -- but this is a great site and will give you the info you need -- just type trip insurance in the search area.

Travel Guard is the only insurance you can buy that will reimburse for DVC points. They allow $5 per point.

When we cruise on points, we have purchased the AAA travel insurance for medical and luggage only. We chose to not cover the points.

Typically insurances will either require a purchase within a couple of weeks after booking, or at least 60 days as a window for pre-existing conditions. If you were boarding with an illness, I assume that is pre-existing since you did not get ill on board the ship. I don't think they will deny board for conditions such as flu and strep as they do not do an examination on boarding passengers. If you are on antibiotics, then you probably are not contagious. You might consider flu shots for your traveling party.

We had one of our DD's quarantined to the room after needing medical care in their clinic for a stomach virus. She was treated at no charge, so there was no reason for reimbursement from insurance. She did miss a full day of meals etc, but I don't think we would have sought restitution for that anyway.
