Well we finally booked our trip for January. We are spending a week in a WH townhouse (thanks George!) and then going on the 4 night Disney cruise (mom needs a rest after the parks!). I want to get trip insurance but know nothing about it, help!

I would like to insure as a package deal (airline, townhouse and cruise) is this possible and do I need to look for a certain type of package to do that, where do I go and what do I need to know?? We are paying our deposit on Friday, when do I need to purchase the insurance by?

Thanks for any and all help... I am so overwhlemed!!

In order to cover any pre-existing conditions and supplier default, your vacation insurance will need to be purchased within 15 days of making your trip deposit.
We use Travel Guard, they are an excellent company with great customer service.
The basic insurance does not include "cancel for any reason" or "change of mind" coverage (though you can purchase it for an additional amount), but covers things such as trip delay or interruption, cancellation for many circumstances and medical reimbursement coverage, which is particularly important if traveling out of the country, since many US based health plans will provide limited or no coverage for health care outside of the country. It also covers repatriation into the US (being flown back to US via medical helicopter) in cases of serious illness or injury. This could cost in the 6 figure range without insurance.
There are many different types of policies available, and prices will vary depending on the age of the travelers. Some policies will also provide free coverage for children under 18 with each paying adult.
If you have any specific questions, feel free to PM me.

Trip Insurance should be purchased within 7-21 days of the first trip payment.
Companies such as Travelex and Travel Guard offer coverage for children at no charge - if you are traveling with kids.

With most Travel Insurance companies you will be required to insure all your pre-paid travel expenses. This includes your park tickets, townhouse rental, rental car expense, cruise, and airfare. If you don't insure all your nonrefundable travel expenses then the travel insurance could be invalid.

There are sites dedicated to comparing travel insurance policies. Call them. They can help you find the proper policy for your situation.

Travel insurance will only cover things with no residual value, such as non-refundable house rental costs, non-refundable cruise fare, etc.
You will not receive reimbursement for items that still have value, such as park tickets or airfare. You can get the penalties reimbursed for changes to air tickets if you cancel for a covered reason, but you will not be reimbursed for the cost of the tickets.

Each company has several different plans available, and each have different coverage components.
