Trip insurance companies??

Sorry if this is OT, but I thought it was the best place to find the info.

I'm looking for trip insurance for our European trip this summer. There are so many companies that have so many options and good and bad reviews.

Did anyone buy trip insurance and have to file a claim that was handled fairly by the insurance company? If so, what company did you use?

Also, based on experience, what companies to stay away from?

Fortunately, I've never had to file a claim, but I have purchased travel insurance on serveral occasions. Disney uses Access America, which I've purchased for Adventures by Disney trips. I've also purchased insurance from Travelex. It was recommended to me by a travel agent friend and they have an A+ rating with the BBB. insuremytrip.com is a good website for comparing various insurance companies/policies.

I would also refer you to insuremytrip.com I look for travel insurance that is primary payor and I try to buy my insurance as soon as I book (for me a pre-existing condition waiver is important). The other consideration is to make sure to get enough coverage. For example, we are doing a Hawaiian cruise in December. I booked it 18 months prior to sailing so I knew the total for cruise. But I didn't know how much airfare, ground transfers or pre-cruise hotel would cost, so I was careful to include enough coverage for all of it.

I worked in vacation sales for 5 years (I still work in travel, but not sales) and filed MANY insurance claims for clients. You just never know what might happen from family illness / emergency, to flight cancellation, car breakdown or even resort bankrupcy...protect yourself and your vacation investment.
