trip fro hell thats us part 2

The babies had some kind of Viral bug. My pedi says its the same as the Norwalk that was on the cruise ships. for some reason this strain is very strong. The second baby got sick Monday pm about 11. And he is still sick as a dog. on the couch. He however has had a lower grade fever 102.5 or so. It seems to last 72 hours and then 24 going from the 72. My fab maid at the AkL said she had a little boy 3 doors down from me. the week before same thing. we talked for a long time and she told me that She really appreciates when people tell her up front. So in other words if I just left and they did a general cleaning and your little one is the next one in a room watch out? But How would you Know? My room for instance would now be red flagged and everything mattress pads, bed spreads would be changed. And Everything including mattress and pillows would be sanitized. So who knows maybe who was exposed on the plane? the room? Touching a railing in the parks? God only knows. Kids get sick no matter what somtimes they just do. Thanks for your concern.

Hulagirl,

I have two children....so I have an experience base too.

Twinsmom,

Maybe I overreacted some. I have just seen too many parents not paying attention and then blaming others for the outfall that results. I truly feel bad for you and your family's experience.

I will once again say I wasnt trying to slam you personally, although, after reviewing my first post it may have seemed that way.
I am sure your next trip will be better.

People staying at the BCVs should also check their sliding door locks. Both of ours were broken, and the facility had only been open 2 months.

You know if your kid had been playing with the ants like a normal kid instead of trying to do handstands on the furniture this never would have happened!;) :D

Very funny, thats my style of humor. and to all readers of this post, I am getting blasted by my SIL, who provided me with the correct Villa number for not mentioning, An incident at Chef Mickey's.......If was the very first night before the bug drama began, we went to Chef Mickey's. Had a great dinner ate 2 plates of salad, Halfway through the 2nd noticed somthing on the plate. Yes, you all guessed it was a bug. Some type of dead waspy yellow thing. intact by the way.......
I very quietly call the waiter and say Theres a large bug in the salad. He says oh my, I will get a front end CM. And I swear leaves the plate on the table, and walks away. A solid ten minutes goes by, we are all laughing, making fun, ok is he waiting for it to fly away? I swear on Walt himself this happened. How does it go plauge, pestulance, and famine? We had 2 out of the three. As I said by the time of the arrival of the spider on the sheets at Coronado we were laughing so hard......we were so incredulous. we began to believe they were following me.... I will also add my Brother and Sil were at coronado 8 days this trip in the Casitas section and had not one complaint.

Did you check the menu ? Are you certain you didn't get what you ordered ? Their Infestation House Salad is quite good with the honey/lime dressing.

Also it would help all guests (especially those with children) if you notice something in your unit that is broken, to report it and give the resort a chance to fix it.

Sometimes they have not been notified. You would not believe how destructive some guests can be to new units.

If the guest before had done this, this situation could have been avoided.

Glad to hear your child is better. Viruses with young children can be so serious.

The seat in the BCV dining area is sized for adults. When you placed your child on the bench did you sit with him to be sure he was safe? I would assume not. What would you have said if he simply fell of the bench? Would that be BCV problem to because they made the bench to high? It seems totally crazy to ***** and moan about a kid falling somewhere.
The company I work (retail) was sued once because a father let his kids roam free and one of the little brats pulled merchandise off the shelf and hit himself in the head. It is not our responsibility to assure your kids safety. No one could afford DVC if every room was free of all dangers to people (nor we we want to, since it would be a padded cell).

The ant problem is another story, since BCV took care of the problem ASAP I can't see a point in even remembering it.
This post is out of line. Perhaps the phrase "welcomed guest" under this posters name with only 22 posts is misleading. Attacking posts like this over a polite thread of someone sharing their bad experience is certainly not welcomed. Take it somewhere else.

twinmomplus2, as a fellow BCV owner, thanks for the heads up about that gap under that bench seats. It may help us avoid a duplication of your son's fall. Sorry to hear about your bad trip, and to read several of the impolite responses you've had to put up with in this thread. One notices they are from guest posters with very few posts listed next to their names. I doubt they are BCV owners. Your handling them very well. Hopefully your next trip will be wonderful and your kids all very healthy.

Thank you very much, for your response. And I agree with you, this is supposed to be a forum that DVC owners share information with each other. A safety issue is paramount to all of us with small childen.

And all this time I thought It's A Bug's Life was in Animal Kingdom not the rooms and restaurants!

My friend got stung by a yellow waspy thing at MK last week. Three times! She had to go to a clinic because the bites swelled up and had to be drained.

I agree there is no reason to be rude to this Mom, who had a bad experience.

I do however think it is wrong to imply that people who don't post alot are in a category of rude posters and not DVC members.

Some people have jobs, lives, etc and do not have time to accumulate a large number of posts on forums, or may not even want to. Some prefer to read, more than respond.

I have read rude posts from people who have 10 posts and people who have over a 1000.

I hope I misunderstood your post, :)

It would help if Mousekeeping did this too...we had a rather large gash in the wall next to the kitchen in the BCV last week...its one thing for tenants to not own up to their destructiveness, but Mousekeeping could not have missed it. We reported it when we had maintenance up to figure out why 5 of our 6 room keys didn't work...since it didn't bother us they scheduled a patch for the day we checked out...and showed up promptly at 8:00 am. :(

This has been an interesting thread to read...Twinmomplus2, ALL posts on the Internet are 'normal', even the stupid/harsh/mean ones. Since no one here can resolve the situation you were in, to me, you obviously just needed to vent (and probably get some emotional support). I certainly didn't read your initial post as a 'WARNING TO ALL PARENTS' but I think with a male brain and didn't read that far into it. :)

Just remember that plain ascii text isn't very good at expressing the mood of the author unless you're very good at writing. In today's "I'm a victim, give me money" society, it is very easy to jump to the conclusion that any parent who publicly denies responsibility for a child's misfortune is probably looking to make a buck. :(

Hope this helps,
Joe
who, other than being at the far flung end of any resort, anywhere on the planet, doesn't run into these types of issues on vacation.

Joe, you are certainly right! We checked in to a DVC resort once and when we turned down the beds for the night, both bedspreads were covered in mold on the back side. Not sure a spot but almost the entire underneath.

My question was similar to yours, How could housekeeping have possibly missed this when they made the bed that day. It was even on the pillows.

I also agree about being it being hard to convey one's feelings in written text. It is very easy at times to completely misunderstand someone's intent.

I do however think it is wrong to imply that people who don't post alot are in a category of rude posters and not DVC members.
[/B]
I do not mean to imply that all posters who do not post alot are rude.

However, it also appears that there are a couple of posters dropping in and offering unnecessary rude comments in this civil thread who do not appear to be long term members of this online community. I thought thier posts werre out of line, and I took the opportunity to communcate that. It may not meet your approval.

But, back to the original topic, children's safety, and sharing an unfortunate vacation experience. Hope everyone's children are healthy and safe while staying in DVC.

I thought you expressed yourself eloquently. And I most appreciate Cival feedback. Negativity is ok as well as long as it is not meant to mean and or snide and lets face it, A few people have been so. Thanks again.

Wow. I've been following this thread for days and finally am confortable enough with my feelings about the posts to actually say something myself.

After just reading the inital post and the first couple of replies, I'll be honest that I too first thought it was a couple of annoyances, but certainly not "trip from hell" material. After reading part 2 with the illness, the number of times you moved and finally the follow-up about the bug in the salad - I stand corrected. It sure was a trip from hell, and seems to have unfortunately turned into a thread from hell for you too!!

And I surely don't blame you for not watching your child carefully enough. Accidents happen, and three-year-olds are usually capable of sitting at a table coloring unattended. Besides, if you're like most mothers, you already beat yourself up over it a little bit anyway! (If only I had...)

Chin up -- there's a great, big, beautiful tomorrow shining at the end of every day!

Like I had said initially, I was taking it all in stride, Starting with the bug in the half eaten salad, we were laughing. Of course everyone else was laughing because it was my salad not thiers;) The ants I waited 3 days to ask to be moved. And I even had them in the bed, the bed my toddlers were sleeping in. Didn't even complain, said, no don't be silly I will wash my sheeets myself I have a washer here. I wonder how many of the posters here would have stayed? Would have checked in and washed linens cause of bugs? I venture to guess not to many would have stuck it out and been as kind as I was to staff. The baby getting hurt, was unexceptable not a minor thing. We lost a few days in the start of the trip, almost a full day to moving and junk....And then had a horrible experience at Coronado. And then what really made everything horrible. the baby getting ill. That was the the hell part. The other stuff was a bad trip to report. Which is the nature of these boards to share information the good and the bad.

Captain Midnight,

Is there a certain number of posts we must make before our opinions carry any value? You may find that comments may have been unnecessary, but, opinions are opinions, be it your 50th or 1400th post.

I doubt they are BCV owners

300points @ BCV and 300 points @ OKW

I wonder how many of the posters here would have stayed? Would have checked in and washed linens cause of bugs?

Heck no, I would have been to the front desk in a matter of minutes to move out of a room with a bug infestation. But a room with a single bug in it? No way, I would have killed the bug and gone to bed.

This post is out of line.

Can I borrow your magic post judging wand so that I can post too?

ALL posts on the Internet are 'normal', even the stupid/harsh/mean ones. Since no one here can resolve the situation you were in, to me, you obviously just needed to vent (and probably get some emotional support).

Last fall at OKW we had the front door lock fail. We were locked out of our room. We simply called the front desk and they sent someone out to fix it. 4 hours later and about 15 different service men coming to see it they finally had it fixed. What was our response at the time? We gave the maintenance men cold sodas and ice water. Why not do the same with any other problems that come up?
