At this point its midnight. I awaken at 3 am to a vomiting 2 year old all over me the bed, Not a good scene. I am up all night with the baby, Housekeeping comes.. Is very nice gives me more sheets and towels. I call CRO at 5 am, Is there anything they can do to get me into Akl early? I can not be in Limbo from 11am check out till 3pm AkL> with an ill baby. I get a call from Renee at Coronado. I am confused as I had never even complained. apparently CRO called her. She is very nice wants to Know whats going On. I tell her and am very nice about it. I swear I was pleasant. She says so sorry, clearly the rooms need to be fumigated at once. And I am in a first floor room, What they expect to have more bugs on the first floor? still I was nice. I swear. She says she will call Akl and I have a room made up early, So I can move the baby. Ok aah thanks....So we repack again.... move all the junk, check into Akl About 10am. Put baby to bed. The others in my party take my other kids and baby to Animal Kingdom. Me and the little guy stay in the room. where he proceeds to get sicker and sicker... Both ends are going. He has terrible stomach cramps. At 9pm. I take him to celebration Hospitol. He is 104.5 and despite tylenol and Motrin the fever will not go down. They stablize his fever give me a tigan suppository to stop the runs and vomiting, and send us on our way. Sunday am come 5am, he is 105 and the fever will not go down, I take him wrapped in a towel and cab it to the hospitol. We stabilize him again and when he hits 102. they send us back out the door, Its now 1pm. I am a dishrag. He is crying I am crying. It was awful. And he is still sick. I call my baby doc about 4 times. He says call before I get on the plane next day. well come Monday, Nopw my doc says I may have to stay put he does not fell he is stable enough to fly. But that he wants him home. So we Get him in the tub, He has a cup of ice chips. and is coherant so hes not dehydrated, we get on the plane. and he sleeps the entire trip. We arrive home throw the bags in, And his twin vomits all over the floor. So...... Thank god he did not start down there. Thank god we made it through the airport..... So I am done venting. It was awful from every angle. The good parts, Meeting an old friend and later his kids. The fireworks cruise. The babies on Buzz. Iluminations. we ahd the kitchen sink at Beach Club. I will say. Kudos to the fabulous staff at AKL. who were very kind during a difficult 3 days in the room. The housekeeper Laverne, whom was as sweet as can be. I will never stay a t beach club again. and will stick to my success at AKl. I have a December ressie at Boardwalk. And am seriously considering bagging the trip.....

It sounds like everything that could have possibly go wrong did. I'm sorry your vacation wasn't better. I really think that BCV management really should have done something more about the ant situation. I can deal with bugs in Florida and can accept that some come in with you, but clearly this was an infestation and is really not acceptable. Perhaps some have not ever been bitten by ants, but it is not very pleasant, especially fire ants. The broken furniture, well, you would like to think that housekeeping keeps up on that kind of thing and reports it, but apparently not.

Please don't let your bad experience at BCV spoil your thoughts on all of DVC. Overall, all the resorts are great and I hope you will consider BWV in December. We have read some negative posts recently about problems at BCV and management's lack of response to them, hopefully these are the exception. I would be sure to write Jackie Leuders at DVC and let her know of your experiences with management so that she is aware of the problem.

Wow!! Glad to hear you are all home and safe!!

My youngest DD got very sick at Coronado a few years back and ended up with high fever and dehydration. she spent 14 hours in Celebration hospital!! she stabalized and we left that night to fly home!!

It sure was a trip from hell. With a family of your size, DVC are the only accomodations so that you can all stay in one unit!!

We love OKW and haven't had a problem there...............

Hope your next trip is better............I would write a letter!!

How unfortunate... it's bad enough to have a sick child, but for it to happen while away from home is awful. And a fever that high is just scary.

I hope your kids are over their illness now, and that your next trip more than makes up for all the unpleasantness this time around.

I bet anyone who has traveled with small child have had bad vacation stories (although yours is probably worse than most). I am a mother of twins who are now 9 (almost 10), but we have been traveling with them for years, and in those early years we had some ugly episodes (getting sick, potty accidents, etc.---reminds me, at Epcot last month we saw a dad with his daughter on his shoulders waiting to go into Test Trak, and the girl had a 'accident' which of course went all over him and he took her off his shoulders and she continued to make a puddle right there, no mom around, just the kid and her dad and he looked so bewildered, I don't think he had a change of clothes with him, especially not for himself).

Anyway, my point is, traveling with small kids is hard and a lot of work. It does get easier with time. Now we just love the Disney Cruise, because we found it to be MUCH more relaxing to take kids on the cruise than to the parks. We started going on that when our twins turned 7 and have returned every year. But we still do other trips.

Don't cancel your December trip. Your kids will be 6 months older, the weather will be coolers, and there should be less bugs around in December :D .

When my twins were younger, I use to say after EVERY trip, we aren't going on anymore vacations until these kids are a lot older!!!! But then every year, we would plan another trip (DH and I just love to travel).

You have to take each trip in stride, and later you will have stories about the mishaps to tell your grandchildren :p .

I hope you will go in December, and don't give up! Things will get easier!

Sorry to hear about your trip. I have noticed on these boards that nobody ever mentions any type of provisions made by DVC, et al for these type of situations, and I don't mean just a meal ticket. I think under your circumstances (i.e. biting ants) you should receive some sort of renumeration (credit on points for next year's use....).

I hope that doesn't rile some people. Some people would think that this policy would open the flood gates.

I am so sorry that SO many things went wrong on your Disney trip!

I am appalled at that negative and rude comment you received from the poster in Part 1.

I live in Florida and I don't have bugs in my house, very rarely anyway.
I certainly don't want them in my room when I'm on vacation!
I've stayed at Disney Resorts, and other Central Florida hotels, many times and have only seen a bug in the room once.
Sure, it can happen, but what happened to you was extreme and shouldn't happen.

I hope everyone is healthy now.

I don't know if you'll be able to "look back on this and laugh" anytime soon, but I hope you'll go back to DW in December and have the BEST vacation ever!

Sorry to hear about your trip, my towel train pales by comparison. I still kinda confused by the sofa incident- how did he fall into it and is the couch broken or is it a design flaw ? What's especially irrating to me is that if it was broken, a fellow member broke it and probably never bother to tell someone. And these are quality commercial use sofas, what were these people doing on them to break them ?

I guess bugs in Florida don't bother me too much. I did Navy boot camp in Orlando 20+ years ago. "Palmetto" bugs- cockroaches in Jersey- were a normal occurance everywhere.

I'm so sorry to hear about your terrible trip!

I can't visualize the sofa thing either, but it sounds awful!

About the bugs, that doesn't sound like normal Florida at all! It's likely that someone at some point dropped food under or behind something & it was attracting the ants. I've read a lot of housekeeping posts, and it doesn't sound like they often move furniture to clean/vacuum behind or under it.

My grandparents used to live in Florida and they were obsessive about keeping food sealed or in the fridge. I do the same thing when we travel! But I'm sure most people don't think about it.

I hope everyone is feeling better!

I'm so sorry about the baby. You must have gone through hell!I have seen that when the maids clean they leave their cartin teh doorway with the door open. Insects will come in, if the door is open. I would not suggest moving to FL and I am the biggest baby when it comes to bugs!
I live in a third floor unit and there are spiders up here (outside) , wasps, and all kinds od interesting things. You do have to shut the door to keep them out! We do have an exterminator come every month, but it bascially just keeps things under control.
montessori,
Clearly you are the exception to the rule if you don't ever have any bugs in your house. This is FL and that's just how it is. I was just at my mom's today and when I opened the door, a fly flew in. You will have more bugs on the first floor.

If I saw ants in a hotel room I would move immediately. That is just a different type of problem that cannot be fixed just like that.

I hope your kids are feeling better. I would stick with AKL if you are happy there. We didn't have one complaint about the place!

I feel sooo bad for you! As much as I hate bugs, I know they are common place in Florida and I know we have to deal with them outside and don't mind dealing with a few that follow me in. But, that was infestation, not ones that followed you in! I have also done WDW with sick little ones and it is not fun! I hope that your little ones are all feeling better.

Would you mind telling me what room number you were in a BCV the first time? We are checking into a 2 bedroom in 3 days and I really don't want to get the same one you had with the red ants!

Susy,
I really can't remember the last time we had a roach in the house!
We had those little "sugar ants" for a while but it's been a long time since we had those too.
Occasionally a fly does get in though.
We do exterminate inside and out but I know that doesn't always do the trick here in Florida.

Maybe it's the thousands of lizards we have around here!

I've never had red ants inside and I agree that I'd want a different room if they were in my vacation villa.

Bugs! YUCK! You probably got more sleep those nights than I would have :(.

The fire ant infested Villa was 417. The bench was broken there as well, In fact in the same way the 2nd one was. The second one was 219 and 221. not a dedicated 2 bedroom. If you picture the bench that you sit on to eat at the table. Its straight and the cushions are like attached to the back of the bench wall. each seat is indiviual. well when those fall off, it leaves an exposed space in the wood. between the front of the bench wall. and the exactual wall. There is an actual open space about 12 inches in diameter. It is totally not up to any code. Also very much a liability.

So we're not talking about the sofa bed,but rather a bench seat at the dinning room table ? I've never stayed in anything but a studio so I'm trying to get a mental pic of what you're discribing.

I take it there will be a lawsuit?

Poor twinsmom! That was the saddest, funniest two threads I've read! A vacation staright from Murphy's Law!

Go in December - you've earned it!

Thanks to JudithM for providing Jackie's address - I couldn't readily find it.

twinmomplus2 - I have to say when I originally read your post about your little one falling and getting stuck, I was thinking he was sitting on the sleeper sofa - I totally can picture what you are talking about now! Either way, broken furniture shouldn't be left in a villa. We will be in a 2br in July and I will check the one in our unit and report it if it is broke. Please let us know what kind of response you get from Jackie. I would like to know how BCV plans on resolving this problem since it was an issue in both of the villas you were in.

Twinmomplus 2- It definitely sounds like it was a very rough trip for you. As others have said, you should definitely write a detailed report to them of what happened, including the bugs, the dangerous situation with the bench, your sick child and how you were treated. I would definitely mention the liability issue in regard to the bench. You are right, it is their responsibility to check those units and they are usually so cautious about anything that could be a potential liability, I am sure you will get a response to that problem. I have written in the past and have always received a response. They should have moved you immediately when they found out about the ants and the fact that you had children should have made them move quicker. Also, when they found out about your child being ill, did anyone offer to transport you to the clinic or let you know that they have a doctor available to come to the room if you wanted? We have had a couple of trips that involved illness and they have always gone out of their way to offer help. Our home is OKW since 93 and I have never run into a bug problem, so far. I can understand why you are thinking of canceling your December trip, but don't be discouraged by what has happened and see what kind of response you get from Disney. Come on over to OKW, we would love to have you. Keep us posted.
