Well I booked a mother/daughter trip for 6 nights Sept 4-10 at Pop Century. My daughter is getting married in October and I figured this will be my last chance to go until after she has babies and they are old enough to go. My DH and DS (15) have absolutely no desire to go to WDW anymore :(

A while back I had posted a question asking what it cost for a trip these days and I got responses from $1800 to $10,000+, with most being $5,000-8,000. That pretty much frightened me off and I gave up on my idea......until I realized after that October I probably won't have the chance to go for a very long time unless I were to go alone!

I worked out a pretty reasonable trip:

Pop for 6 nights at $604 US.
Nonstop one-way flights from Detroit $220 US, seat selection and checked bags included.
Home bound flights were free with Aeroplan points (totally free, even paid for taxes and seat selection with points!). I imagine we will have to pay for checked luggage at the airport though since there was no option to do so when booking.
5 day hopper pass will be no more than $436 US (that is from the WDW site but there are cheaper ones to get through Mousesaver links and possibly even CAA - I have to go in and check that out).
5 day hopper free with Airmiles.
Adding hopper option to that free pass will be approx. $70, although we may not bother with hoppers - we will decide that a little further along in our planning.
We will be taking Disney's Magical Express to and from the resort so no transportation charges.

Total of $1330 US

I'm happy now :flower1:

Don't forget about food! Your deals are really good. You did well with your searches.

That does look good. Is there not free dining at that time? I know not for pop, but one of the other AS, then you have your food as well. I would also pay the little extra to either up to Mod for the better dining,or just pay for the reg dining option.
You know how you two travel and if the hopper is worth it or not. For us its not.
Good luck and have a great trip, be there couple of weeks after you.

Yes, there is free dining and it would end up costing me more because we would have to purchase two 5 day passes and not use the free one through Airmiles. The resort would be $1664 plus the $200 air fare - $1864. We are very small eaters and I know we will not eat $500 worth of food in 5 1/2 days. In saying that, I did think about it just to have the convenience of not worrying about food but the only value resort offered at during our dates is All Star Sports and staying there without saving a whole lot of money just isn't worth it to me. That resort would be my absolute last choice. Some things are worth paying for to me - I had actually put in a request to rent DVC points for Boardwalk Villas at $900 (none available) - the extra $300 would have be worth it in that case with being able to walk to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios along with all the other food venue choices we would have - but to stay in a resort that has no appeal to me at all for convenience of pre-paid food just isn't a choice I will make. It actually isn't just a little extra for a mod - Port Orleans Riverside is $2710 - more than double what I am paying :crazy2:

Good for you. You have done your homework, know what is what. Have a great time. I hope to be doing that in about 20 years too, lol. |This Sept is just me and my youngest dd5 for daddy, daughter time. Her older sister has been with me solo a few times so its hers now. And she cant stop talking about Halloween, so I hope to still be doing this before they both get married too.
Have a blast.

Update! I just saved another $91 US on our room. I saw this thread http://www.disboards.com/threads/cheaptickets-20-on-some-disney-resorts.3487380/ over on the resort discount forum and did a bit more research. Found mousavers also recommends these guys so I booked through them and cancelled my initial reservation with WDW. So 6 nights at Pop is now down to $523. The reservation is linked to my Disney Experience account to do all the other fun stuff. :flower1:

jtdl-thanks so much for sharing your break down and trip planning. You are an awesome example of how Disney can be done without having to spend outrageously.
