Trick or Tweet! The Lurkyloos Do F&W, etc: 11/8 Last Day at WDW!

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!!!!
party:

You know I just got to thinking, you mentioned DISapalooza, will you be going? If so my mum and I will be attending as well would be nice to meet you and Patrick in person to say thanks for the many hours of enjoyment and TDL help you have brought me :goodvibes

WWOP does look very picturesque in the evenings (probably not picturesque enough for me to visit Universal though!)

That's too bad your visit to Tchoup Chop wasn't that great. The restaurant does look gorgeous though!

WWOHP looks really cool, I just don't really feel the need to see it until the crowds go down. The food pics look yummy!

Seeing your evening pics of WWoHP kinda makes me wish we had hung around. Looks like the details in the windows showed up much better.

After reading the Universal book (that I can't remember the name of now and am too lazy to go back a few pages to remember it :cutie:) I remember he/she/them saying to either go to WWOHP within an hour of opening or closing. I think we'll be heading over an hour before closing as, from your pictures, it looks even better at night!

Is it just me, or does it look like that statue's taking a leak? That's an interesting angle

Oh my goodness... good eye! :rotfl:

I had a great meal a few years ago at Tchoup Chop. I did the Chef's tasting menu and it was delicious. Sorry to hear your meal was less than fantastic. I do like Emeril's on the CityWalk as well...they had a great lunch menu.

Wonderful WWOHP reviews. I have a free ticket to Universal to use and I only want to see WWOHP!

A free ticket to Universal is the best kind of ticket! Then you won't feel like you aren't getting your money's worth from the rest of the park. ;)

Great update Carrie! I'm looking forward to seeing WWoHP at night and getting some good pictures. I think DH and I are going to wing it as far as food when we go but I'm enjoying your reviews none the less.

I think you'll be fine in the food department—they have plenty of your favorites! :)

I must say your captions are what seem to make your "trippies" so special...

I also must say this TR is going WAY too slow :rotfl: I have been waiting FOREVER it seems to hear about MNSSHP and these AMAZING looking costumes... get crackin' I say :lmao:

I'm impatient too—I can't believe I haven't even gotten into most of the Food & Wine Festival yet! I wish writing the TR were my only job! :lmao:

Lurkyloo, we have stayed at the RPR and i can tell you that the rooms that we have stayed in have been spotlessly clean, with a Polynesian/Asian inspired look. And the beds themselves ARE A DREAM to sleep in. And they have the REAL coffe in the rooms in those individual little things, for those that Need that sort of thing. Also loved the front of the line access that the room gives you.....

Sounds great! If we make it out to the DIS party in December, I'm thinking of spending a night at a Universal resort. I look forward to trying out one of those beds!

WWOHP looks so pretty at night! I would love to get over there just once to see it!

I hope you get to—it's really something to see!

We have tickets for the party, I just don't know if we can swing the rest of the trip. But I'd love to meet you both if we do go! :goodvibes

Seriously! It's just fun to be in there. We'll have to give it another shot—maybe they were having an off night...

WWOHP looks really cool, I just don't really feel the need to see it until the crowds go down. The food pics look yummy!

Yeah, it'll be interesting to see if it ever settles into some kind of equilibrium, or if the design of the place will make it feel crowded no matter how many people are there.

Seeing your evening pics of WWoHP kinda makes me wish we had hung around. Looks like the details in the windows showed up much better.

That's a good point—you really can see more in the windows after dark than before.

After reading the Universal book (that I can't remember the name of now and am too lazy to go back a few pages to remember it :cutie:) I remember he/she/them saying to either go to WWOHP within an hour of opening or closing. Definitely! No heat, smaller crowds—what could be bad? :cloud9:

Hi  I'm Mouse Scrapper or Scrappie or Julie ;)

and CP aka Jackie sent me looking for you...I just revealed via a contest on my anniversary PTR that my husband and I will be dressing up as the Haunted Mansion Bride and one of her poor dead husbands. She said I must just come take a look at your pixs as you looked amazing...

and if that is you on the first page...that is wonderful...LOVE IT! :worship:

great job...I know I have seen you around on the boards...I think when searching for cake options for our anni I found your info from your wedding and I just read your blog post of the two HM's in one day...crazy cool :thumbsup2

so thanks for letting me take a peek...and I will so be back to read when you get up to your Halloween Party experiences

J~

That's me on the first page—so, thanks! :goodvibes We did the Halloween party at the end of our trip, so it may be a few more weeks til I get to that part. But you might find the stuff going up between now and then is a good online time-waster in the meantime. :rotfl:

Thanks for stopping by!

Today was one of the more relaxed, freeform days I've been trying to build into our trips since the non-stop action of our Christmas/D23 Magic & Merriment/DISBoards Party trip in 2009.

We slept in and got room service breakfast, which for some reason is my ultimate idea of vacation luxury, even though the food invariably disappoints. Actually, I take that back: This meal was pretty dang good, as I recall.

Eggs Benedict—with extra hollandaise because they're always so stingy with it!
file-2.jpg

I hired my wedding makeup artist, Patricia LeJeune, to come do my hair makeup that morning because we were meeting the Roots in the Magic Kingdom for a Dole Whip and a few headshots for my blog and PassPorter books. It was so much fun catching up with her after 2 years!

It was also wonderful to see the Roots again. I think we hadn't seen them since the previous Christmas, so we had a lot of catching up to do with them as well! And where's the best place at the Magic Kingdom to have a relaxing conversation on a ride? The Peoplemover, of course!

This was a red-letter day. Patrick has been trying to get a good photo of the Progress City model along the Peoplemover track for YEARS, but we just don't have the equipment. Jensey & Nate, on the other hand, can do this stuff in their sleep, and they got us three fabulous shots!

What I didn't know at the time is that only a portion of the original model is visible from the Peoplemover today, and it's been badly maintained over the years. You can read a fascinating article about this with lots of great concept art HERE.

Space Mountain!

In Space (Mountain) no one can hear you yawn

Suddenly, randomly (maybe it was Space Fever?), things got a little smoochy…

So of course then I had to reapply my lip gloss in the reflection of Jensey's shades...

Onward to Autopia! Oh wait—what's it called in Florida? Tomorrowland Speedway? Hmph!

file-5.jpg

file-6.jpg

I don't think Patrick understands the concept…
file-7.jpg

file-8.jpg

YEAh more Roots pictures! I really must chat with them on color correction I am terrible at that part.

What fun pictures you and Patrick always do the funnest poses, plus it is always great to have your own personal photography.

You rode in the car together :rotfl: I bet you got tons of looks :rotfl:

file-9.jpg

file-10.jpg

Yeah, I REALLY don't think Patrick understands the concept…
file-11.jpg

file-12.jpg

file-14.jpg

file-16.jpg

"Smoochin' on the Speedway? Right on!"
file-15.jpg

file-17.jpg

After that we found a really great background for taking headshots—the construction wall around Fantasyland. Here's some Root Photography behind-the-scenes action for ya!

file-18.jpg

The Roots took a lot more great headshots that day, but this is the one I went with because I love all the colors!

HaywardMug.jpg

Here's Patrick's shot…

file-19.jpg

Here's how far along they were on New Fantasyland on October 14, 2010:

file-22.jpg

Next stop, the newly dubbed "Prince Charming Regal Carrousel"—the carousel that no longer belongs to Cinderella or even Prince Charming, judging by the lack of the possessive…

One of us did not get the memo on this pose
file-24.jpg

file-23.jpg

Let me tell you, trying to smooch on moving carousel horses can be a dangerous affair—someone's liable to chip a tooth!

file-30.jpg

file-26.jpg

file-37.jpg

file-40.jpg

file-42.jpg

Over by the future pile of rubble that was the Skyway Station, Patrick did a little dance just for you!

file-43.jpg

file-44.jpg

It's so weird looking back at these photos now—with that Harrison Hightower facial hair, he looks like he could tie a damsel to the tracks at any moment!

file-45.jpg

file-46.jpg

So, if you're in the market, it turns out that the afternoon light on the Liberty Belle is *great* for headshots…

file-49.jpg

We could't pass up an opportunity to ham it up in front of the Haunted Mansion. You'll get to compare these to the shots we took there in our costumes later on (let's just say that on this occasion, no one mistook us for entertainment cast members!).

file-52.jpg

file-53.jpg

file-56.jpg

file-57.jpg

And speaking of hamming it up…

Actually, the moustache is PERFECT for this setting!
file-60.jpg

file-61.jpg

file-62.jpg

So then somebody decided it would be funny to get a headshot with me eating a Mickey Bar. Or maybe I was just hungry for a Mickey Bar…

Behold my new Twitter profile photo!
file-63.jpg

file-64.jpg

file-65.jpg

file-66.jpg

OK, maybe this is waaaaay too many shots of me eating a Mickey Bar, but I am compelled to document the entire process!

These two should probably be in a double frame on our mantel… if we had a mantel…

Back to Main Street, U.S.A.!

file-78.jpg

file-54.jpg

Patrick's take on the old "peering over the bouquet" shot…

file-79.jpg

file-51.jpg

On the other hand, here's a shot you almost never see in wedding photography!
file-80.jpg

file-81.jpg

I loved this area the Roots picked for us, especially all the color!

file-82.jpg

This shot would be perfect if Patrick wasn't, you know, asleep…
file-83.jpg

I usually hate how I look in low-angle shots, but those Roots—they really know what they're doing!

Carriatrick_Oct2010_286.jpg

On the same side street we found what Nate 'n' Jensey declared to be fantastic light for a headshot.

file-87.jpg

On our way out of the park, Nate lost a lens.

file-89.jpg

Diabolical Hightower Patrick found this terribly amusing…

file-90.jpg

file-91.jpg

file-92.jpg

We didn't have the fortune to get a completely empty monorail car like a recent Root wedding couple did, but we still got some nice shots.

file-93.jpg

file-94.jpg

file-95.jpg

The first time we met Nate was when he did our engagement portraits at the Polynesian, so we had to grab a few shots for old times' sake…

Then…

…Now!

Then

Now

Then

Now
file-100.jpg

We bid the Roots farewell until our date for Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party a few days later. I'm always glad when we can meet up with them more than once during a trip, because we always have more catching up to do than fits in one meeting!

Getting all dolled up and running around the Magic Kingdom in the sweltering heat had been my idea of a good time, so Patrick got to pick what we did for the rest of the day. That turned out to be going into Epcot to play with the new wide-angle lens I'd bought for shooting event spaces. Patrick was absolutely smitten with the thing, and you'll notice that rather than his usual plethora of detail shots, this trip was all about the wide shot for Patrick...

file-20.jpg

file-25.jpg

file-27.jpg

great....

... now I WANT a Mickey cream bar :mickeybar and it is like hundreds of miles away

There was something going on over at World Showplace, and judging by the diversity of costumes, it was a crowd scene for a low-budget move!

file-104.jpg

We bravely ventured into the Mitsukoshi Department Store, knowing full well that it could mean the loss of our entire souvenir budget.

I really wish I had the money and a reason to buy one of these!
file-106.jpg

Look out! The "cute things dressed as other cute things" trend has finally hit Fake Japan too!
file-107.jpg

file-108.jpg

file-110.jpg

We made a quick stop at Via Napoli for some photos. Our reservation here wasn't until the last day of the trip, so the review will have to wait a few more days (and in Carrie Trip Reporting Time, that could be MONTHS!)…

file-111.jpg

As night falls on the Bavarian train set, cooler temperatures send the Gargantuan Killer Lizards scurrying back to their dens as the populace breathes a sigh of relief…

file-121.jpg

file-122.jpg

Before our reservation at Bistro de Paris, we stopped in at the Karamell Kuche to pick up dessert. (I have a longstanding tradition of smuggling dessert into the Bistro because they like to sully their desserts with fruit.)

file-123.jpg

file-124.jpg

file-125.jpg

file-126.jpg

file-127.jpg

file-128.jpg

I ended up choosing the chocolate version of their mile-high cupcake and found it to be a combination of dry cake and super-sweet, gritty frosting just like the vanilla one. And not really all that chocolatey—go figure!

file-129.jpg

file-130.jpg

Sorry about all the Duffy photos—but remember, he had just (re)debuted in Florida, and we were fascinated by seeing this memento of our Tokyo Disney trip, like, EVERYWHERE…
file-132.jpg

file-131.jpg

file-133.jpg

file-135.jpg

For reasons that I don't understand, I am perpetually drawn to the Guerlain and Givenchy boutiques in the France Pavilion. There is no way I would ever pay full retail for their overpriced products, and all their perfumes smell the same to me. I'm not interested in playing with the makeup because the displays are perpetually mobbed and the manhandled testers are gross. So what is it about these shops that makes me stop every time I pass by? Maybe the interior architecture?

file-136.jpg

file-137.jpg

file-138.jpg

file-139.jpg

Now this attraction is one I understand…

file-140.jpg

Don't tell him I told you, but Patrick loves sniffing all the soaps in France!

file-141.jpg

Caught in the act!
file-142.jpg

Finally it was time for our reservation at Bistro de Paris.

file-143.jpg

Inside, the restaurant feels like the classic French bistro… of 1982. I like it, but I wonder if it's like stepping into a time warp for people who actually live in France.

file-144.jpg

So many glasses, so little time…
file-145.jpg

file-147.jpg

file-148.jpg

file-149.jpg

We got a table for two right by the window, just like on our honeymoon, which meant we'd be able to see IllumiNations. True, it's not, like, the greatest view ever (they turn on big lights aimed right at the window about halfway through the show, plus you have trees in the way), but it's awfully nice to be able to watch the show from the comfort of your table while you eat a swanky dinner.

Our view inside the restaurant wasn't too shabby either: Seated behind me in a semi-private corner of the restaurant was the entire D23 team! Patrick and I got into a heated-but-whispered debate when he thought we should go over and get a picture with them that I could tweet. I thought I would rather die. The idea of approaching a celebrity for a photo or an autograph makes my skin crawl, so the idea of fawning over a bunch of real people just trying to eat their dinner made me feel like crawling under the table. We dithered so long and so increasingly loudly that I'm sure Steven Clark was about to stand up and shout, "Oh just come over here and take a picture already!!!"

Finally Patrick's appeals to my journalistic sensibilities prevailed (what…? Tweeting is just reporting on a micro level!) and we sidled over to hover until there was an awkward pause in their conversation. Carmen very kindly put me at ease by smiling at us and offering to take our picture with Jeffrey (he must've drawn the short straw to become the sacrificial lamb for camera-toting fanboys). I was also surprised when she remembered my name, although this could be due to my sending her a marked-up copy of the second issue of Disney Twenty-Three Magazine that bled red ink, along with the suggestion that they hire an additional copy editor…

IMG_5024.jpg

Mission accomplished, we scurried back to our table.

"Now that wasn't so bad, was it?"
file-152.jpg

"Harrumph!"
file-150.jpg

This was our amuse bouche, and I'm afraid I don't remember what it was. Green... flavored soup? I think it was prolly tasty though!

file-153.jpg

We started with an appetizer of Sauteed Jumbo Shrimp with Parsley & Garlic, Crab & Sesame Seed Croquette, and Cocktail Sauce. It was very, very tasty! I could have eaten the parsley and garlic sauce on my entire dinner…

Sauteed Jumbo Shrimp with Parsley & Garlic, Crab & Sesame Seed Croquette, and Cocktail Sauce
file-154.jpg

For dinner we split the Pork Tenderloin Wrapped in Bacon, Stuffed with Mushrooms, Truffles Pasta Gratin, and Morel Sauce. I was a little worried about the pasta because "truffles" is usually code for "truffle oil," which is gross and tastes nothing like real truffles. Also, "gratin" can sometimes be code for "dried out cheese sauce," but this stuff was pretty good. The tenderloin was very nice, but not as good as the one at California Grill.

file-157.jpg

IllumiNations started before our entrée arrived. It's easier to get pictures before the big lights on the roof of Chefs de France come on.

file-155.jpg

file-156.jpg

Yikes!

file-158.jpg

file-159.jpg

file-160.jpg

My eyes!!!!
file-161.jpg

For dessert, I had my contraband Karamell Kuche cupcake and Patrick had Bistro de Paris' assortment of sorbets and fresh fruit. I don't remember what the flavors of sorbet were, so I will make them up: Oeil de Newt, Orteil de Grenouille, Laines de Batte, and Langue de Chien.

Assortment of Sorbets and Fresh Fruit
file-162.jpg

By then the park had been closed almost an hour, and the restaurant was emptying. On their way out, the D23 team jabbed Jeffrey and he bid us farewell. We waved and called out, "You can't escape us that easily!"

I always love leaving Epcot well after closing time. It's such a beautiful and peaceful walk out. The last few times I'd done it, I'd been alone on the phone with Patrick telling him what he was missing. So this time I made sure I appreciated getting to be there with him.

Up Next: 3D - Disney Dessert Discovery Party + D23's Sip 'n' Stroll Begins!

Holy massive update!:worship:

Wonderful, wonderful Roots photos as usual! I had seen many of them before...just not in full size. They are amazing! I love your headshots!:goodvibes

Too funny about the D23 meet up. I guess they weren't pulling an all-nighter rushing to get things ready for Sip 'N Stroll. :rotfl:

I don't know how you two manage to split meals all the time...especially with those teeny tiny portions at the signature restaurants. I would be needing a snack after my meal.

Can't believe you managed to sneak a CS cupcake into the Bistro. That takes some moxie!:worship: Hopefully the wait staff were busy with the end-of-night closing and didn't notice.;)

Looking forward to re-living Sip N Stroll with you!:goodvibes

Yeah, I REALLY don't think Patrick understands the concept…
file-11.jpg

Thank you for starting my day with a fantastic laugh! :rotfl: I love the pictures from your MK morning with the Roots!

I've always been intrigued by Bistro de Paris, but I think you finally hit the nail on the head - it does seem very 1980's! My parents are still raving about a butternut squash soup they had there last December though...

well I didn't stay away :rolleyes1 I am always up for some DIS time that keeps me from the other stuff ;)

I am in LOVE w/ the pictures, the fun and well everything...this is the trip I want ;) You and your DH just look to be having the time of your life hamming it up for the photos...just too fun!
