trick or treating with unicef container?

I haven't seen anyone trick-or-treat for Unicef in years. I just went and got the change jar too, just to be ready! Thanks for the heads-up!

This is the first year they WON'T be handing out UNICEF boxes at schools around here for trick or treaters...I don't remember their reason (though it was an absurd one), but I really think it is too bad. Nearly 50% of the kids around here I would say collected UNICEF up until this year...then all the boxes would go into the school. Nearly everyone had a small container of coins and as they handed out candy, would drop a few into the UNICEF boxes.

We have the Unicef box, but I'm not all that comfortable with my DD going out asking for money when she's getting candy! So, the last couple of years I've put about five dollars in change in the thing & sent it to school.... she's 9 now & was always happy with that... maybe I'll send the box out tonight though? I'm not sure.... I already put the four dollars in LOL...

When the kids were younger and I had to walk with them, I would dress up and hold the UNICEF container. They got candy and I got the donation.

UNICEF boxes are pretty popular around here. My Junior Women's group has been doing them for years and the school started about three or four years ago.

I was forced by my mother to do this when I was a young child... about 43 years ago. I was expecting to get to trick or treat as normal. With no warning or explanation, I got the box and was told I couldn't get any candy. I had to collect for poor African children. Boy was I mad!
So I still have a bad feeling about UNICEF :rotfl:

It's great though, if kids want to do this on their own free will. :sunny:

so sorry.....i hope you were able to make happy holiday
memories since then.....
odds are good... being on the dis and all :cool1:

BTW both trick or treaters that had the boxes took the candy bag :teeth:
it was my 1st 2 treaters so it threw me off....... :confused3

We had a lot of kids tonight collecting with their boxes. We kept a bowl of quarters by the door. The kids were so happy and thankful when we put money into the boxes.

One of the kids in my neighborhood's friends kid has severe peanut allergies. Each year mom comes around w/a ziplock bag and appriopriate treats for their 2 kids. Sometimes it is candy, others toys/pencils.

This year, the one who is allergic had a box similar to the unicef ones, but it was for peanut alergy research (or somehting like that) I have never seen anything like this. Luckily, I had $$ in my purse.

I just opened the door and there was a childs back facing me with a gaping backpack on it!! I 'presume' I was to deposit his goodies in there?? Dad was waiting and watching too from the sidewalk??? :confused3

OMG :rotfl2:
keeps the line flowin :lmao:

One of DD13's Catholic friends gave DD the box and asked her to collect for her. Apparently it's required for her friend's catechism. I told DD I didn't want her asking the neighbors for money, so I'll give her some cash to put in it for her friend.
