I picked up my race packet today. Laid out my gear for next week. Is it just me, or is that a lot of stuff for 3 hours???:lmao:

It does seem like a lot when you lay it all out...are you changing shorts during the tri?

Swam a mile in Lake Michigan yesterday, followed by a 2 hour ride....My original intention was to swim at Ohio Street Beach, then ride Ogden avenue home. those of you in Chicago will understand the next part....I envisioned getting a flat tire on Ogden between Western and Kostner...and elected to drive home and ride.

Anyway, Off for a run sandwich...1:10 run, 30 min ride, :50 run.

ttyl, stay focused folks!

Mike,

Nope, wearing Speedo suit for the swim, then putting on bike shorts on for the ride over the Speedo's. I have regular biking shorts, and not the tri style ones.

Checking in with 14 miles done in 2:13. Walked part of Diamond Head with my training partner, who was having a flare up of back pain.

Just a quick report from my race today. I had a blast. It was 1/2 mile swim, 10 mile bike and 3 mile run. I was telling people I wanted to finish in 1:40 while secretly hoping to do 1:30. I ended up at 1:24:45. 16 out of 41 in my age group. 248 out of 496. I swam with my face in the water about 80% of the time which was such a victory for me. I can't wait to do it again next year. Leaving now for a week of vacation. Looking forward to a little R & R.

Cindy

I {heart} my new bike!

I hate spending money on myself, but DH convinced me to spend my bonus on a new bike. I've been riding a 20-year-old road bike build for someone a foot taller than me. I got DH's hand-me-down when he bought a new bike for his quest for 1/2 Ironman about 8 years ago.

I bought a Specialized Dolce Elite a week ago and I love it! It fits me, I'm fast, I don't hurt for 2 days after a long ride. I {heart} it!

Today I did a swim-bike-beer-cheeseburger brick. Life is good.

Cindy - Yay!!!!!!:cheer2::woohoo::yay: Thrilled ofr oyu!

sk8ting mom - Yay for teh bike! I can't belieev how much difference they make!!

My tri Saturday was GREAT! OK, not ggreat liek my former roommate who got 2nd, but great for me and that's all that matters. lol. They changed teh run course. No possible way anyone could get lost this year. I hope the last place person thanked me. :upsidedow PR'd teh heck out ogf my swim (2 to 3 min off) swim, although still not happy with my inability ot crawl, PR'd teh bike, although missed my goal by 0.1 mph. Still, I did all I oculd and was thrilled. Took 2 miles ot feel my feet again adn for my legs to uncramp for the run, so that was not great. Still, way better than last year, better than teh shorter run 3 weeks ago and I think they just sufferd from my great bike. I know I did what I could, though and am very pleased. WIll give a full report when I get a chance.

Jeff - is a lot of stuff when you lay it out. Patrick has his first tri end of Aug and is thinking of biking/running in his suit (it's a super sprint). Either that or pulling bike shorts on over swimsuit.

Mike - I have no idea why you did not want to ride there. :confused3 Ohio street beach work out well?

Cindy - congrats!! :cheer2::banana:

Carrie - WTG!!! :cheer2::banana:

Got out for 40 mile bike Sat including two 20mph sustained sprints. Felt good.
I've got a 10 mile trail run this Sat then RnR Chicago the following Sunday so swimming will suffer a bit next two weeks. Have the Super Sprint end of Aug so need to get in some swim time in Lake Michigan.

Liz: Ohio street was great, got in a mile in some chop in about 45 minutes, and anytime in the wetsuit is good time.

As far as Ogden between Western and Kostner; that area is called North Lawndale...it's NOT a good or safe area I've seen at least a dozen smash and grabs over the last 15 years, and heard god knows how many gunshots in the middle of the day.

Now picture a flabby guy with a little red bike and tight clothes trying to change a flat tire...No really good outcomes that I can envision, you know? :lmao:

10.5 miles, 54 minutes. Nice cruise through Waikiki on the bike.

Happy Tuesday WISHers.

Last brick workout, I think...

8.25 miles in 1:15. Garmin must be off, since we were running faster than last week. Felt sub 1:10.

800 meter swim in the rolling seas.

Can't wait for Sunday. Let's get it on!

GOOD LUCK JEFF!!!!

AFM: I'm SO ready for this to be over...

I know we have some IM competitors lurking...how did you deal with mentally being shot, and just REALLY not wanting to work out? Or did you not have this happen? I'm two months away, and just want this to be over...is this a bleed over from the fear of not being prepared?

Mike..totally normal. maybe take a little break this week, then push it the next 3-4 weeks, then it's taper time.
PM me if questions....but I am travelling the rest of the week and won't be online again for a few days.

I repeat...it's normal. Esp. for your first IM. Be good to yourself. Get plenty of rest, too. I know that's easier said than done.

THANK YOU BETSY!!!!

I cannot tell you how much better I feel knowing that.

Next week will be light since I'm in training and another state, so I guess I'll just swim and run easy...and try to get motivated for the week after.

Mike

Jeff - you are so going to rock!!

Mike - good advice from Betsy. I've never done an IM but figured it had to be the mental "I am so done" kinda thing. Hang in there!

Still trying to decide on which 70.3 to do next year. I've got Goofy in Jan so have to watch length of time needed to train after that. Was looking at New Orleans. Talked to co-worker who grew up there and it's flatter than flat. Lake good for swimming and temps won't be bad yet. Just have to figure out the timing.

Have the Super Sprint end of Aug and going to really work on my swim and run times. I can do the bike portion pretty quick w/o blowing my legs just want to be faster on the other two.
