Do you think dogs should be allowed in guests' rooms?

Just got a call from WDW guest services after emailing my concerns. We are scheduled for two nights at POR in November. According to the rep I spoke with, only designated rooms with standard and garden views will be pet friendly. None of the Royal Rooms will be pet friendly. Since we have heard conflicting reports, give that as much credence as you desire

According to the map, there is a doggy relief area right by Parterre Place that is only close to the Royal Rooms. I bet some standard/garden royal rooms are included.

People leave their dogs every day while they go to work, go to events and appointments, etc. Not sure how this is different. Every dog owner I know understands the impacts fireworks have on their pets. There won't be fireworks going off in the hallways all day of the 4 resorts listed as dog friendly.

It's different because they leave their dogs in a familiar environment, not an unfamiliar cramped hotel room. .

How do you know that? How do you know these people don't travel with dogs ALL the time? So much speculation by people in this thread!!! It's crazy.

Didn't feel like multi quoting everyone who replied with basically the same answer.

The last huge uproar I remember inthe commounity was the change to the disability access card rules, people complaint, some tried to sue.... nothing happened

The huge uproar was from a very small vocal percentage who overused and took advantage of the program. Many of us who have great need for the pass knew it was being "abused" with overuse, being obtained by folks who did not need it and the program needing adjusting because FP+ had changed the dynamics. Many of us use the new pass with great ease and appreciation for what it accomplishes. Those who complained didn't want to give up their unlimited FP they had become.

The general Disney population wasn't upset by it ........ well maybe those folks asking for passes who really didn't need it. :rolleyes1

Our of sheer curiosity, as I've only become active on this forum this year, when was the last time Disney launched something new that caused such a spark in debate - and what was the ultimate result? For example, if the last big change was that all hotel rooms would only have 1 ply toilet paper and not 2 ply (I am making this up, guys), people complained... what did Disney do about it if anything?

FASTPASS+ and the elimination of legacy FastPass ............ THE WORLD WAS COMING TO AN END!!! :crazy2:

I think this is so much deeper than many previous issues, particularly when you throw health issues into the mix.

It hasn't happened at Fort Wilderness since they've been pet friendly.

COMPLETELY different than a hotel, and maybe that is why they should just make all the cabins dog friendly and keep all dogs in the campground. At least they are detached and have small gaps between them.

Dogs are allowed on site loops meaning you bring your own RV or tent. The person coming behind you is not worried about dog souvenirs in their room since they bring their own. Campers are totally used to being around dogs since many folks choose that vacation style because they can bring their dogs.

The REAL dog relief areas will be anywhere and everywhere the dogs happen to be when they need to go Those maps are a joke!

That was my concern at POR, AB section, the areas are on the far side of the parking lots from the resort buildings. Let's say Fifi has been in the room for 6 hours and 59 minutes. Will she make it to the relief area? Or just the lawn outside the room or next to my rental car in the lot.

Waiting for actual first hand reports to make my decision. Also, I need to know if it becomes permanent. I don't check in until after the trial.

SO TRUE. I think my little ones whole body is a giant bladder but even at the end of 7 hours (daytime, he fine's all night) ... I'm lucky if he gets off the 2nd front step before he's peeing on the sidewalk. I come back after 7 hours of him locked in a strange room .... he'll make it as far as the first blade he sees.

The joke is them telling people there will be no rooms by some of these potty stops .... so you think a dog will walk that far from their room holding it just for that spot. No, so that makes the spot useless ........ which means dogs will be staying close to those rooms at some point.

Think about it, many dogs bark when they hear or see other dogs. My one dog can see out the windows there so if there are any out there she will bark, then my little will bark. What will work best for Disney is spread them around .....

It's different because they're being confined to a single, unfamiliar room for long periods of time. No dog owners I've ever known have confined their pet to a single room of the house all day long, and many go home at lunch to let the dog out.

Dogs are used to their home. They're not used to a hotel. It's borderline cruel to leave an animal in a single, unfamiliar room for 7 hours.

One of my co-workers does. The dog is confined to the bathroom all day because after having the dog for two years, it's still not housebroken! It's a master bath, so it's not tiny, but it's still one room, and they both work too far away to come back to the house during the day to take the dog out. They would be one of the first ones I can think of to want to take their dog to Disney . . . and I'm sure there would be plenty of potty accidents as a result.

As far as fireworks go, I can tell you when I've stayed at any of the Epcot resorts during periods with a special "tag" at the end of Illuminations (such as during December) the tag is so loud the windows would rattle and the furniture would shake. If I was in bed, it reminded me of those old $.25 vibrating beds you would find in some roadside hotels in the 70's. I don't think there is any way that dogs won't be affected by that, even if they don't manage to hear the rest of the fireworks.

Well truth is Disney does various things that cause outrage from folks here on the Boards.

There was the tents in Magic Kingdom, there was the whole Pirates scene being changed (upcoming after the new year), the closing time of the parks (ETA more speaking about Magic Kingdom) this summer, the closing of the parks (ETA: meaning Magic Kingdom) @ 6pm during the Christmas parties (upcoming), the removal of Wishes and introduction of Happily Ever After, the perceived delayedness of the Hurricane Policy during Irma, the adjustment in how they handle disabilities (aka DAS), the 'cannot be mentioned' loophole closure, when it was first introduced the new security procedures with metal detectors, and oh so many more.

Some of what I mentioned Disney didn't have a chance to change perse what they did (like the Hurricane Policy with Irma) but other things like the tents in Magic Kingdom were removed after a time and other things more often than not Disney has not changed.

It doesn't in any way diminish people's opinions nor concerns on this particular matter but there are a variety of things Disney does that outrages people on the DIS frequently enough.

As far as the general public I'm not sure. The DIS as diversified as they are represents a tiny fraction of the people who visit WDW each year. In order to really know the true public's opinion on something like this you would have to implement something and give it time. If WDW was flooded with complaint after complaint from those actually at WDW whilst also not receiving enough interest in the new pet-friendly program then they may rethink it. But again enough time has to go on for there to be enough information for Disney to make an informed decision.

All the being said there are times when companies announce something prior to it being implemented that the social outcry is enough to cause them to not go through with something. When the CEO of AMC Theatres said he thought it may be interesting (paraphrasing) to have theaters where you can text in them....the outcry was extremely strong and he retracted his thoughts on adjusting the policy. When Netflix was talking about spinning off their DVD service into I forget whatever it was going to be called people voiced their "I don't get it why??" comments and they ended up not doing that.

I'm not sure if you're referring to my response since I had quoted you. I did not think it was "crazy" or really even speculation. I said I couldn't speak to other people's dogs and their temperament away from home on vacation. I was also responding to your example, which was going to work, events, appointments - day to day stuff. I know that when I went to work every day, I left my dog at home on his comfy bed...or probably my bed after I left! Just wanted to add to the dialogue that a vacation is different than every day, and again, some pets might be fine, but others may not - and in the example of my neighbor, sometimes owner's perceptions of how their dog is doing may not be entirely accurate, especially if they're not around, which may be the case if someone is at the park, pool, stuck waiting for a bus, etc...

Why does everyone think it will have a negative impact on their vacations? I just do t get it. I guess I'm more easy going.

Hot weather + dog poop=nasty odor!
Step in dog poop=shoes ruined!
Black or dark dresses or suits + dog hair=disgusting!

I could go on but people will have their own opinions on this anyway.

My first "baby" was an Afghan hound. She literally went everywhere with me. She loved the car. BUT, she never went to work with me for obvious reasons AND she never went on vacation with us. She went to her favorite kennel with a shirt worn by me (had my scent on it). I just don't see the "fit" of a Disney vacation + dog=great vacation!

The Disney Cruise Lines implemented a rule that you could no longer smoke on the stateroom verandas. That came about after enough people complained about not being able to enjoy the verandas due to the smokers. Smoking is only allowed in DSA on one side of the ship. Another rule that caused a bit of an uproar was you were no longer allowed to bring hard alcohol on board and restricted the amount of beer and wine you could bring. Of course people were trying to sneak booze in their luggage..

I love dogs. I don't mind visiting friends' and family's homes with dogs. I have no allergies to pets of any kind. But personally, I am not keen on this idea.
Every pet-friendly hotel I've stayed in has had it's own 'smell.' It's usually not enough for me to complain or make a big deal, but over time pet urine and feces leaves behind small traces, even after very thorough cleanings. I am meticulous about cleaning up my own cats' litter box, 2-3 times a day, but even I know my house has a faint litter box smell to strangers who enter my home. I'm just used to it.
I understand this is just a trial run. I'm not blowing up Disney's customer service just yet - we'll see how this goes.

Can someone post the email address of the individual’s to complain to again please as I’ve done a general email but want to do to specific people. I don’t think it will make much difference but I can’t change from POR without paying over £2000 and it costs me too much coming from the UK every year as it is!
