So on our next trip we have the DDP. However our older girl remembers the place with the thunderstorm and "even elephants" and wants to eat there again. Because I know we will have to do a meal or two OOP I want to go there. Don't want to spend a fortune though. Looked at allears.net menu for prices on food. Not really sure how I want to do this but know that she wants to eat there and sure little sister will enjoy too.
Do we need an ADR for either location in DTD? Don't want to make one unless absolutely necessary. Obviously have ADRs for all of our other meals booked long ago.

The last time we did RFC, Aug 2009, we got burgers & wraps and the bill with tip was over $100. No alcohol, family of 4. 3 eating off adult menu, 1 off kids menu.

This would have been a $50-60 tab anywhere else & put dh in such a foul mood for the longest time. The kids wanted to shop in the store too, adding fuel to the fire. :headache:

The place is cute but I don't think we'll be eating there for a REALLY long time. ;)

I feel the same about the cost. Believe me. Honestly I would rather have a drink and let the kids split a kid meal and DH get something cheapish too. Just so that we can honor our DD's request. She brings it up often. Just wonder if that would be rude honestly. With all the deserts we'll have on DDP I don't even think I'd want to stop in for just desert ya know.

Well, that's a good idea. She probably just wants to experience the place again which won't require a full dinner.
We ate there as AK was closing & it was dinner time. We were all hungry til we saw the prices. :faint:

We have the Safari Club membership (until end of August, if you have a RFC near you you can buy the membership for $10) which gives us a free appetizer with an entree.

So hubby gets some sort of entree (usually veggie burger...he likes them there) and I get the Pita Quesadilla (w/o chicken). Tasty tasty! Then DS gets the kid's pizza, no one gets drinks except for water, unless I'm in the mood for a boozey beverage (we don't drink sodas), and we don't have a bill anywhere near $100.

(and I do two rewards sites, one of which is mypoints, which yields Landry's giftcertificates, so our out of pocket is just about zero)

Safari Club gives priority seating as well. But even without it you could just call the DTD (or AK) Rainforest (or T-Rex) directly on the day you feel like eating there and arrange for something.

You coudl just go and share a big plate of their nachos, if you wanted.

. . . so much for RFC/TRex
. . . they defiitely are not cheap

Do we need an ADR for either location in DTD?
. . . no
. . . but, you can call the eatery directly to get one

Thinking back now.... ds & I each got a side salad that didn't come with our meal which were like $7 each. Also the kids split a dessert. Bill was probably $80 + $20 tip. This averages $20 pp including a drink, not unreasonable but that's our tab for steak at the Outback, not wraps & burgers.

I chalked it up to being in a tourist area & for the atmosphere. It was dh's crabbiness that ruined it for me.

we try to go to trex every time we go down and have always made reservations, this summer I havent been able to even get one they are booked solid the week we are there (late aug) so I would recommend getting them if its a must do for you

They do take walk ups, so to answer you question, no you do not need ressies. However, the wait can be very very long. So, if you know you are going to eat there, I would suggest making ressies.

On the price side, I think the price for burgers and wraps are quite reasonable. It is when you start adding on the sides, etc that it ads up.

And for your DDs, there is a coupon link floating around on either the family or budget board for free (or is it $0.99) kids meal. Sorry I am on the wrong computer to link it for you

Spousal crabbiness is never fun. (it's how I started to get about tipping random people with our split stay...next time DH can be in charge of it!)

Have you called them directly? That can get different results than going through the Dining system.
