Trenton, NJ?

My daughter looked at an apartment in Trenton this weekend. I'm not happy about this because I've only heard bad things about Trenton, re: crime. Has this changed? We've always lived in Morris county, so I don't know anything first hand about other areas.

I went to TCNJ. Trenton has been making a little bit of a comeback in recent years and I know a lot of students at the college lived there. There are some pretty nice condos around the city. I probably wouldn't consider it for long term, but I think I would be more scared if she was looking in Camden or Newark. I go to hockey games at the Sovereign Bank Arena and the area, even at night is okay. The prison is nearby, but they don't bother anyone

I also went to TCNJ (I am so old it was called Trenton State College back then) and me and 3 friends rented an apartment on the border of Trenton and Hamilton Township. It was OK at first, but by the second year, my roommate had her car stolen twice. Her first car was stolen by a 12 year old who rode it down I295 and somehow destroyed it. He had a history of stealing cars, and he was so young there was nothing the police could do about him - he got off with nothing (and continued to steal).

My roommate then bought another car which was also prompty stolen (not sure if same kid) but she got it back a couple of days later with minor damage. After that, we all gave up the apartment and moved on our separate ways. Didn't feel safe anymore, and basically, we weren't. What if we encountered these thieves when we were in the parking lot? Not good.

We were trying to save money by living in a cheaper area, and there are risks in that. I was glad to move back to Morris County after we gave up the apartment.

Of course, this was quite a few years ago, maybe things changed. But the area we were in was clearly getting worse. I have no desire to ever return!!

Why Trenton? Couldn't she live in a nicer area nearby and commute in to wherever it is she has to go?

My thoughts exactly. I live about 30 min outside Trenton and there are TONS of nice places here.....
