I was delighted when our ferryboat master gave us a little info on these cute buidings. Why cant WDW fight to get them opened back up again?

Did anyone ever stay in them back when they were open?

I would LOVE to stay there if they ever opened back up- anyone else?

I would like to know more also and does anyone have any pictures of them?

What do you mean about WDW "fighting to get them opened back up"? They are owned by WDW, once were a part of the Disney Institute, some of which is now Saratoga Springs Resort.

YEARS AGO I stayed in a Treehouse Villa. They were pretty neat, with a full kitchen, 2 bedroom, 2 bathrooms upstairs and a bedroom down in the pedistal. Unfortunately they will proabably never be reopened. From what I hear the land is now designated conservation area, so going in and fixing them up would be difficult. It looks like the buildings really have not been maintained. There are trees down from last year's hurricanes.

Also, there is no way to make them accessible to the disabled. The only way in and out is several flights of stairs. I don't know if Disney would be required to make any accessible, but this probably isn't helping the situation any.

I think I heard that Disney would like to tear them down, but if the do, they can't rebuild on that particular land because of all the new Saratoga buildings, so I suppose they are trying to decide what to do. The Treehouses sure were a fun/creative idea way back when.

We stayed in them 20 years ago when my son was 5. It was his first trip to Disney, and he had the time of his life. We loved the treehouses. I would give anything to stay there again.

We stayed in them back in 2000. I really had a good time. They were the one resort as a child I always wanted to stay in. They were quite different than any other resort, and I loved the full kitchen and living room. The fact that there were 3 bedrooms was a real plus. The bathroom in the "master" bedroom was really interesting (I can't remember what that type of bathtub was called but it was about 3 feet deep and 2 feet wide--almost like a barrel.) The main bathroom was a regular bathroom and shower. My daughter loved the spiral staircase to the bottom bedroom and the vines over the bed. It was musty down in the bottom though. I really wish they would do something to rehab them and reopen them. I know they cannot rebuild on the land there because of the wetlands. It was so cool to sit and watch the peacocks and deers and more walking around outside.
Oh, I do miss those.

Wow- thanks for posting folks who have been there!! You apparently will have memories no one can duplicate!

To the person who asked about my "fighting for them" comment. I think others sort of explained it. The land was deemed "wetland" and despite the fact that WDW own it, they can not build on it. They somehow still come under another juristiction and have their hands tied.

Wouldn't it be great if they could at least recreate them somewhere else along Bay Lake, or even up closer to Port Orleans? The woodsy look to them makes them special, and it feels like you have your own condo I bet. Very special.

SueEllen- is that THE SueEllen????? My Ressie is with you, if its really you! Its like a famous person coming on the boards! LOL!!

they were awesome in idea but my stay....i scammed the bottom floor from my brother and then there were bugs bugs bugs bugs. (dead i think) We reported it and they cleaned but several hours later full of bugs again. The rest of the trip i slept on the couch...very uncomfortable. however like anyother home away from home the kitchen and all were great for staying several days. I was definitely looking for them when researching for this trip and even had suggested it to a friend who was going with another family since I didnt know they were closed. see my sig. with the ? by the treehouses. was wondering what happened now I know.

Our family stayed in the tree houses two times - I can't remember the exact years but our 25 year old daughter was around 6 years old. We loved the tree houses. The kids loved the animals around them. We have a couple of pictures of the 3 children watching the peacocks. You felt like you were far away from the hustle and bustle of the the world.

The kitchen was great and having separate rooms for the kids to nap in was priceless!

We enjoyed them.

ohh my kids would LOVE to stay in them - especially my DS (and he would LIKE the bugs - lol)

I stayed twice there and they where just great, I remember that downstairs they also had a washer-dryer, I would love it if they would fix them so that I could stay there again!!

:sunny: My aunt and uncle stayed in them in the 70's or early 80's.They enjoyed them so much that they used the plan to build their retirement home!

If Disney is able to deal with the wetland status and renovate the tree house villas I'm sure they'll be incorporated as part of either SSR or OKW.

I have a friend who is an Imagineer for Disney Resorts. I have often asked them about these, everytime he says they are rehabing or building new I always ask.

He says that there is a great deal of cost in relations to bringing them back because of the wetland protection. In order to remodel, they would pretty much have to complete trash everything inside and start over again. However to bring everything in they need without damaging any land or trees (for re-roofing), is next to impossible. They have also suffered alot of damage from hurricanes and the like over the years. Alot of them have mold problems. It really something they would like to do, but they are not a priority.

FYI

The land that the Treehouses sit on is wetlands and protected, and is considered part of the SSR property. I always thought the treehouses were kind of neat, but considering that they are completely made of wood, and we all know termite problems in Florida, chances of them reopening are probably slim to none. Even if the land cannot be used to house people, it would be a great haven for wildlife. I would love to see it preserved as such.

Wow!!! I have good memories about this villages....I stayed there in 1983 and love them.....As far as I read on this boards....there where also using them for college students who works at Disney....I know there is some pictures somewhere at this board....(november 2004) cause I saw those pictures......Let me see if I can find this post.....
