Do you think the treehouses would rise in popularity if each treehouse was given a golf cart to use to get around SSR?

I suppose that could be viewed as a benefit, but I don't really see how it would work. Would there be parking at pools and bus stops? It sounds nice, but I can't see how it would actually help.

If the golf cart didn’t take away from car parking, it might.
As a reference, Disney rents golf carts for $62.91/day at the Fort Wilderness campground. That’s an additional 8.84 points/day worth of dues.
I wouldn’t want my SSR dues going up for a villa size I would not be able to reasonably use with my points.

With some people. From what I can tell, they still remain available at 7 months a lot of the time.
Yes and no, depends on time of year. They are a lot harder to get than anything else at SSR and a lot harder to get than many other 2-3 bedrooms across WDW.

Of course, they would. Now if you move the treehouses to Fort Wilderness, I'm never leaving.

There are 60 treehouses at SSR and 360 dedicated 2 bedrooms and 432 1 bedrooms with 432 studios to match those 1 bedrooms to make a lock off 2 bedroom. While the treehouses are the cheapest 3 bedroom DVC you can get, they cost less then OKW GV. There are 20 Bungalows at PVB and 28 Cabins at CCV. Both of those cost way more points and are only 2 bedrooms. Someday we will try the tree houses, the bunk beds can be a no go for some folks, that and no king sized bed. Also for a 3 bedroom they only sleep 9, like most 2 bedrooms do.

The treehouses began in 2009. By 2011, they were very popular and difficult to get at 7-months out much of the year. In 2013, that trend reversed itself and the treehouses, though still fairly desirable, became open at 7-months out for many times of the year, and that continues today.

So what changed? DVD's sales pitch for the treehouses when they were being sold as a new addition to SSR, emphasized that purchasers could reserve a 3BR treehouse for the same nightly point price as any 2BR at the original SSR resort. Many bought believing that was true since the point charts at the time showed that was true. Then beginning 2013, when the treehouses reached sell-out stage, DVC raised the points needed to reserve the treehouses 16% year round, while lowering all the other SSR rooms a little bit per room to offset the increase. So you can thank the modern DVC for why the treehouses are not more popular now, and likely there is no chance that the modern DVC would do something to increase demand like provide golf carts.

I remember staying in the Treehouses way way way back when they were part of the Disney Institute property. We rented a golf cart for our stay and drove it over to Downtown Disney where they had electric plug parking spots for them. Anyone else remember that?
