We will be staying in Vancouver for a few days pre-cruise this summer and need help choosing safe restaurants for out tree nut allergy DS. I also love the nut free candies from Canana and would love to find a store where we can stock up on granola bars, candy bars etc... We are also celebrating his birthday, so if someone knows of a nut free bakery, please let me know.

Any help is greatly appreciated as we have never been to Vancouver and have no idea what we are doing:)

Sorry, I don't know. Maybe the hotel concierge would know. Would telling restaurant staff you have a nut allergy be enough?
Enjoy my city!! If you are staying near the cruise port, be sure to check out the Olympic Torch!! Also at Canada Place we have a Sorin attraction, called Fly over Canada.

I am so excited to explore Vancouver! Just stressed dealing with DS's allergy...Some restaurants are totally on top of it and some are no help at all. We will only be eating one dinner out, so we will probably stick with something basic like grilled seafood with no sauce or plain steak, just to be safe.

Haven't visited Vancouver for a few years now, so I am envious of your trip. DH has a nut and peanut allergy too, fortunately not as severe as some. We did not have any problems in Vancouver restaurants. Vancouver is a pretty amazing place for food. We stay away from buffets. We did try some of the terrific local seafood with success. I agree with the PP's suggestion that you ask the hotel concierge for suggestions as they will have up-to-date info. for you. Enjoy your stay!

Hey Stinkerbell! Vancouver's pretty big, and you didn't mention where you're staying, but I've found you a couple of bakeries that will fit your needs. They both state they are nut free. One is downtown, walking distance from the cruise ships. The other is in East Van so if you're staying downtown, you'd need a car to get there.

For granola bars, etc., we have most of the same brands as the U.S. The one that comes to mind is Quaker. I've seen some of their bars labelled 'nut free'. If you can give us more location info, I can direct you to a decent grocery store.

As for restaurants, I've heard that White Spot is really good about providing lists of ingredients for their menu items, plus they're a family friendly place. I do agree with a pp, though, that most restaurants here will do their best to accomodate allergies.

Hope you enjoy our beautiful city. :)

Ha! I just read the list of flavours at Mancakes. They may not suit your DS's taste, depending on how old he is, but maybe they can adjust a batch for you.
