Treating a blister

I’m in need of advice about treating a blister on my little toe. I know the best way is to stop running and let it heal on its own, but I have a race next week so stopping running is out of the question. I’m inclined to drain it and cover it with a blister band aid with some neosporin. This way it will have a week to start healing and at least it won’t hurt when I’m running. BTW the blister is a result of my pedicurist removing the callas from that area. I won’t ever let that happen again. :furious:

Any thoughts or suggestions? I’d appreciate any and all advice. :goodvibes

Cut the toe off :D

Sorry I had too. Blisters don't bother me anymore :/ this is how you know you've been biking and running too much when you're like Meh, or even better you just don't get them anymore unless I'm running a distance run in the rain :/

I think I used to bandage them though. They make blister covers and I think that's what I used to use.

If you do drain it, make sure the needle you pop it with is sterile. You'd hate to get an infection on top of the blister! I am very prone to blisters and I say to pop it.

Actually, the preferred thing is to not drain - especially if you can walk or run and it does not interfere. If it is an issue and you do need to drain, the current thoughts are to lance the very edge of the blister to allow it to drain. The length of the lancing should be just long enough to allow you to inject Neosporin into the cavity once drained. As above, do make sure the blade used to lance the skin is sterile.

if you decide not to pop it you can "donut" it with mole skin and then tape/band aid over the top to make sure it stays. Do test run whatever you decide before racing on it.

(donut is to cut a hole the size of blister and put it around the blister so it doesn't rub anymore)

Thank you all for the help. I'll try the donut approach today and hopes that helps, otherwise it will be a slow and uncomfortable race Saturday. :worried:

Bandaid brand makes these blister pad things. You leave them on for 3 days before changing. I don't know how they work but they heal my blisters so fast. They also puff up around the blister so it doesn't hurt when you run or walk. They are a bit pricey but they are the only things that used to save my feet from new cleats :thumbsup2

Hi There,
This may not help with your blister now, but may help prevent in the future. Have you considered wearing Bamboo socks? I don't know the specifics but I do know that cotton socks should not be worn running because they are more likely to cause blistering. Hope that helps!
