I stand (or type, rather) corrected. I had forgotten that F2K had come out after Tarzan, and, yes, I do believe that they did an exemplary job with it.
My criteria for Disney animation has always been quality of story and technical achievement (preferably both in the same film), and then how well it does a the box office. After all, the original Fantasia didn't do so well the first release, but is now considered a classic. My disappointment with the recent offerings has been that the stories are weak, the characters are 2-dimensional in more than the obvious way, and that these films will end up in obscurity (perhaps with cause).
I'd like Disney to think more about the quality of what they are putting out on film and in this Latter-Eisner Era, the focus seems to be on "Let's make as much $$ as possible in the first release, and who cares about the future or the quality of the film." In my mind that is diametrically opposed to what *I* think Disney should be doing (and what it did while Walt was alive).
I hope that clarifies my thinking for you Scoop.
