Just got off the Treasure 7-night sailing and it was absolutely wonderful. Helped of course by being in Concierge. :)

But I did have a pet peeve about this ship and the Wish. Those Elevators!!!! No, not the issue about the buttons being too easy to press. This is a really silly thing. Not every elevator goes all the way to deck 12 (or higher). In the forward elevator lobby only 4 of the 8 elevators go to 12. Same in the aft elevator lobby. So, with a cabin on deck 12 forward we regularly found ourselves taking the elevator to 11 and walking up a flight. Similarly when going to Palo/Enchante/The Rose in the aft of the ship.

Yes, a very small thing.

It’s a poor design for sure. Very difficult to get elevators to the adult pool and coffee shop area, and no interior stairs. Have to schlep through the wet family pool deck stairs to get there. Not ideal carrying food etc. Just a half brain compromised layout. Reminiscent of 1990s ship design. (Until Disney set the standard with the Magic)

Are the elevators marked as to which ones go up to 12? Just planning ahead for an October trip.

Yes, there is a little plaque next to each one that shows what floor they go to. It's not terribly large and is essentially useless.

Picture this; you're on deck 3 and want to go to Palo which is on deck 12. So, on deck 3 you press the up button and wait for an elevator. You get on which ever one arrives. It might be one that goes to 12. Or it might be one that only goes to 11. We found it didn't make any sense to just wait on 3 for an elevator that goes all the way to 12 and instead we just took whichever one arrived and walked the remaining flight.

IIRC, only half the elevators go higher than deck 11.

After 4 cruises on Wish class ships we will stick to the older ships going forward. I have 2 pages of pet peeves on these ships! We just got off the Wish from a New Year's Eve cruise. 2 adults by ourselves, we had a great time but it's just not comfortable especially if you don't want to drink. Very strange layout and use of space.

Not for the people with disabilities, it is a major inconvenience. As usual the Imagineers do not have a clue.

I agree! But in fairness regarding the lounge, on the Magic and Wonder only two of the four mid elevators go to 10 we often have to bounce up one level. :tigger: It helps me to get my steps in!

While I respect the inconvenience it has for people with disabilities, there is one thing that everyone who complains about this seems to miss. A lot of ships built in the last decade or so, particularly for more family oriented lines like RCCL, NCL and MSC, have the same design. Most of those ships have just forward and aft banks of elevators and not all elevators go to all decks. It's not that the Imagineers don't have a clue, it's that the Imagineers designed based on a popular industry trend. Blame past passengers who complained they wanted more and more on the ships. More shops, more restaurants, more activities. So, cruise lines gave it to them at the expense of the mid-ship elevators.

The bars being spread out, again, is the industry trend and not a DCL only thing. MOST cruise lines have a lot more lounges spread out all over the ship and not just in an adult only district. People wanted the bars and lounges to be more Disney themed and less of a generic boring lounge decor. I'm not sure who thought that they would theme lounges with Disney IP and not put them front and center.

With that said, I wouldn't be surprised to see the ships after the Triton class have a mix of new and classic (so yes to the mid-ship elevators and promenade that goes all the way around the ship, but no adult district).

Even though it is a small thing, it is an annoying thing and a problem for folks with disabilities. I personally blame this on Chapek for hiring someone to design the Wish and Treasure who had never designed a cruise ship, much less cruised but that is just my own cranky, petty opinion. :hippie:

It's a fairly common thing for hotels and other large buildings to have only some elevators go to the top floors; however, most places will have an express elevator that *only* goes to those floors at certain times of day.. I feel like that would make a huge difference, although some folks would probably get confused and end up on the 12th floor accidentally...

Its such a minor insignificant thing. I dont get why its even worth talking about.

As someone who cruises with a young-adult daughter who uses a wheelchair, the current elevator situation on Disney Cruise Line ships is already a negative on each cruise. The prospect of needing to take two elevators to reach certain decks on the Disney Treasure is unacceptable.

We face two primary issues with the elevators. First, they are incredibly small. Approximately 75% of the time, there isn't enough space in an arriving elevator to accommodate a wheelchair. Second, elevators can be extremely slow during peak times. It can take 20 minutes or more to get an elevator with enough room for a wheelchair. This may not seem like a long time, but these delays accumulate throughout the day and become a significant inconvenience over the course of a week.

Adding to these challenges, people often cut in line in front of wheelchair users. We've countless times been the first to arrive at an elevator and press the button, only to have people rush in ahead of us when the doors open. This constant struggle is mentally draining, especially for simple tasks like moving between decks 3 and 4 on the classic ships, where stairs are readily available for those who can use them.

The impact of these elevator issues extends beyond a small group. Many passengers have mobility challenges and depend on elevators, and many existing customers will be in this boat someday, since the reality is that 80% of people with disabilities were not born with them.

The potential need to use two elevators to get to the adult areas on the Disney Treasure is a pretty big deal in our situation and a consideration that makes us hesitant to book a cruise on this new ship (as well as the diminished adult experience). Forcing passengers to take two elevators to reach certain decks is a poorly thought-out design flaw when you can't at least call those specific elevators. Disney's failure to address this by installing smart elevators, which could group passengers traveling to the same destination, is inexcusable.

I am not who you were responding to, but I don't think these arguments will be very convincing to DCL fans. Many of us prefer DCL because they are different than other lines. The more they become the same, the less reason there is to pay a premium.

P.S. I personally am not bothered by only having two banks - it does work well when done right. It's the other elevator choices that I don't love.

That disagrees with Disney’s deck plans for the Wish/Treasure/Destiny.

On the deck plans all 8 of the forward elevators go to Deck 12 with 4 of those 8 going to deck 13. The aft it is 4 of the 8 that go to deck 12.

instead of the up/down button, they need one of those panels where you select the floor you want to go to and it calls the right elevator for you.
Eh.. I was just on Utopia of the seas that had these and it was absolutely horrendous.

Then they must have been poorly implemented. When done right, the are much more efficient than traditional elevators and move many more passengers over the same period of time. I love them at the Coronado Springs Towers, for example. When a big group arrives from the parks, they are really quick at getting people to their floor, and you don't stop at every floor on the way up to yours.
