Hi!

Going to be here next month (12th - 17th) and I am currently booked at the Travelodge on Ball rd. However, I see the Motel 6 is about the same price as the Travelodge and is a bit closer to walk (15 min vs 25 min). Does anyone have any recommendations on either? The only negative thing keeping me from booking the Motel 6 is a lot of reviews mentioned numerous cockroaches.

Thanks!

Just in my experience I would take a travelodge over motel 6 in general. Not saying Motel 6 as a chain is THAT bad, but I've stayed a quite a few Travelodge's and have always had a good experience.

Is the extra 10 min saved walking a big deal to you?

My DW and I have stayed multiple times at Motel 6 Maingate. M6 has an amazing dog policy-no extra charge and pet can stay in the room when you are gone, so M6 is our goto when on road trips with our dog. Over the last two and a half years we have 30+ nights at Maingate and I think maybe we saw one cockroach. We bring our own food and prepare it in the room and never had a problem, but we a pretty careful and clean up and take the food trash out right away. The walk is not to bad 15 minutes or less. ART is used by others and our DD used Uber for about $5. It is a Motel 6 right off I-5, so I was surprised how much safer it felt than other Motel 6s that we have stayed at and they keep the grounds nicer than most Motel 6s.

I've read consistently good reviews here for the Motel 6 Maingate. Basic, but fine is the general consensus. Walk is not a big deal -- and the hotel is on an ART route, too. The Travelodge on Ball is walking distance to the M&F tram (about 10 minutes walk -- so not a 25 minute walk, which I assume is to the Harbor entrance?) and about 15 minutes walk to the DTD bag check, so you don't have to go all the way to the Harbor entrance. I think it's really up to you -- 6 of one, half dozen of the other?

One big difference that I see staying over at the Motel 6 Maingate (Harbor Blvd side) vs Travel-lodge (Ball Rd side) is offsite restaurant food options. The Harbor Blvd side has so many offsite food options Subway, Pizza Press, IHOP, Dennys, McDs, etc., and you can get a multiple better food choices at Garden Walk. Also CVS and Walgreens are right there on Harbor Blvd too. All these places are on your way to Motel 6 or just a 10 minute walking detour. On the Ball road side there is an ARCO and a Shell gas stations nothing else.

I have stayed multiple times at Motel 6 Main Gate and I'm booked there for my June 2019 trip. I have never had any issues, I use ART bus. I get my ART multi day ticket at Motel 6. Its a 10 minute walk to Garden Walk where there is a Cheesecake Factory, Bubba Gumps and Fire and Ice. A bit further up the road from Bubba Gumps is the intersection of Katella and Harbor, where there is a large CVS

The ARCO by the Travelodge has an AM/PM minimart, if you only need snacks or a beverage. And for dining, DTD is a short walk away. Lots of choices there, especially if you were walking through DTD on your way to your hotel or to the parks anyway. Not trying to sway the OP's vote, but just pointing out that there are options with either hotel.

Appreciate everyones opinions so far! It seems to me that the Motel 6 might be a better option since there is more around it and a little closer to the gates. Though my wife saw reviews about bugs and of course doesn't want to go there now lol.

Tell your wife In a solo female from Ireland, we don't have the same bugs as you. I would never return to somewhere if I had seen cockroaches in the room, or bed bugs or anything else icky.

I have stayed there 3 times
