I'm plannning a trip form June 23rd - July 8th. Travelocity is coming up $100.00 cheaper than the airline websites. I've never had that happen before. I'm almost afraid to book. This happen to anyone else.

That's very unusual. I'd be surprised if you can actually book this ticket at that price. I've always found the same prices going to the airline's web site than using any of the travelocity/expedia/orbitz sites. But you save the $5 booking fee that those sites tack on when you book directly with the airline.

Travelocity supposedly has some negotiated fares but it's doubtful there would be that much of a difference. My experience with them and Orbitz has been that sometimes it shows a fare as available and then when you try to book the fare it tells you it's not available. So if the fare you're seeing is good and the flights are acceptable, try to buy it. If it sells it to you the fare is valid and will be honored. My guess is that it will tell you at some point to try again because it's not available.

Did you actually try to "book" the reservation with Travelocity or did you just do a fare and flight search ?

I found last week in booking flights on Air Tran, that Travelocity came up with a lower price than booking through Air Tran, but when I actually tried to "book" the reservation...suddenly it came back that they could not book the reservation...hummmm...????

I then went directly with Air Tran and booked the flights at the higher price.

I read abot a lot of sob stories of people booking through on line travel agencies like Travelocity, Orbitz, Expedia, etc.

One is here: http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1334021

So I would say, either use a brick-and-mortar travel agency (in town) or, after looking on Travelocity, etc., book directly with the airline or hotel, etc.

On line travel agencies in general have a lot of cleaning up of their act in the customer service arena before they can really expect raves and recommendations.

I am fed up with Travelocity! On three separate occassions earlier this week, all on different days, Travelocity did not honor their advertisement!

I went on their website, saw the hotel & flight that I wanted, clicked on submit, saw the amount that I need to pay, clicked on continue, and THEN, $300-$1,000 MORE was added to the total at checkout! What a scam! Then, one time it said, " Due to increase gas prices, your flight cost needed to increase!" The increase was 1,000 dollars! Then, the very next day, the price was $700 lower....

Hmmmmmmm:confused:

I'm one of recent "sob stories" (hehehehe), use those sites to search out your trip but book directly through the airline. I learned the hard way.

I have booked hotels through Orbitz and done well.

For flights I use Travelocity or Orbitz as a search and then when I find a good flight I usually book through the airline itself. 99% of the time the airlines website is within a dollar - to ten dollars differnce and IMHO its worth it to own my own reservation vs going though Orbitz or Travelocity. If it is really a difference of $100 depending on the number of peope traveling I would consider uisng Orbitz as I have had good experience with them booking hotels.
