Travelling within 90 days after Covid infection

Tested Positive in Ontario in December, Travelled to Orlando this past week and just got back.
Flew in and out of Pearson - Terminal 3, Westjet and here's a mini report on how it all went:

FLYING YYZ-MCO (Positive test)
  • Got a PCR Test at a Peel Public Health testing site after being symptomatic for Covid and received the results online. We were supposed to be contacted by a Peel Public Health "case manager" to let us know when to end isolation. We ended up calling in directly and waited on the line for hours and they said they were backed up (this was first week of January) and to be clear of isolation after 10 days. They were not providing any documentation showing release of isolation at this time.
  • We asked our family doctor and even a walk-in clinic who both said to "we can't provide a letter of recovery/you don't need that - just ask public health for a letter". But we didn't give up and kept asking around - eventually we booked appointments with Virtualdoctor.ca and Rocket Doctor and both were able to provide letters saying that we tested positive on this date, completed isolation period and were cleared for travel. The notes were $20 each and signed by the Doctor with their address and contact information.
  • When we called Westjet twice to ask about the requirements for these documents neither could say for sure who would be checking the documents at the airport and what needed to be on there, only to "check the CDC guidelines".
  • Arriving at the airport, if you checked in online in advance (uploaded vaccination certificate) and used the kiosk, I was able to get the boarding pass easily and head off to security and customs directly. Neither security nor customs checked my paperwork - didn't look at my positive test, didn't look at my doctor's note - but I had it just in case the asked.
  • Husband on the other hand had to check in luggage- and so at the counter they asked for paperwork. The staff member at the counter had never seen a Positive test result before and had to call a supervisor to confirm , but otherwise it was ok.
  • Arrival into MCO/Orlando was easy and again, no checks.

RETURNING MCO-YYZ (Positive test)
  • Again, checked in online and used the kiosk and got the boarding pass with no problems. Filled in ArriveCAN app the morning of the flight and didn't have to show anything at all.
  • Same thing happened with husband checking in luggage - except this time the only person checking documents was an airport staffer managing the line checking to see if ArriveCan was completed, and also test results - mostly wanted to see the date the Positive test was taken. On Saturday morning (Jan 15) they were only taking people whose Positive results were 14+ days old - anyone with 10/11 day old test as per the new policy were the couples/families we saw the most trying to explain to the staffers the requirement changes coming into effect as of the 15th - a lot of irritated people. and managers had to be called because apparently the check in staff "were not informed of this change".
  • On arrival at Pearson, didn't have to show Positive tests to anyone and was waved through customs by the officer. Very quick and easy and no testing on arrival.
Al in all a VERY smooth experience - didn't have to pay for an Antigen/PCR test to leave, didn't have to pay for a PCR test to come back - probably the only positive thing to come out of catching Covid despite being triple vaccinated.

How do you get proof of a positive test if you take a rapid test at home? Fellow Manitoban, so it is very hard to get a PCR these days here as they’re just distributing rapid tests and telling us to isolate at home. I feel like this is going to potentially cause So much trouble in The coming months when people are traveling.

We are traveling in March and two of our party tested positive today. But it was a rapid test because they couldn’t get a PCR.

You would have to pay. But you could order the switch health tests.

My test results in Alberta do not show the kind of testing that was done. Is there a way to get the documents with the information on it that I need?
Also, I have my attestation, test results, and Dr. note. Is there any other documentation that I need to take? We have uploaded vaccine status' to ArriveCan and have QR codes for the flight.

This was said earlier in the thread....but you could do the switch health test. Yes, they do cost - basically the same as the PCR test you would pay for at Shopper's drug mart...or see if a Shopper's near you has any openings. I have also seen a few other companies ( northern Albertan here) that are offering travel pcr tests. You might have something like that available in your area as well. The only thing is, you will have to pay :confused3

I have 2 of these tests for our upcoming trip, and will use them if we happen to test positive with a rapid test if we start to feel any symptoms.
