im worried

this has never happened just prior to a holiday before (or in fact at all)

im poorly and have been for about 5 weeks. i had a chest x-ray today and get the results in 2 weeks and as you can see from my ticker im flying out in 20 days!

argh.

obviously it depends on that x-ray as to whether ill be going or not. im running through a million scenarios from being given a prescription of cough medicine and being told to suck it up to having to cancel my holiday to being ill while im away.......

boohoo

i saw someone had a similar thread a few days ago too. complete nightmare

Hope you will be ok for travelling, l am sure everything will be ok, but l know what it is like, very worrying, as my husband took ill will we were there last year
and it was touch and go if he could fly back, all sorts of stuff goes around in your head, but fingers crossed you will be fine.

I hope you get good results and can travel, fingers crossed for you.

I went to Docs just a few days before we travelled last Easter, been poorly for weeks. He said he could send me for a chest Xray but advised me to go on the holiday and get some warm weather, if I was no better on return he would send me for an Xray., didn't even prescribe anything, just told me to take paracetamol.
Within 48 hours of arriving in Orlando I was fine.

Same as Wayne - having previously being incredibly healthy, a few years back I had 6 months of endless chest, throat, sinus infections etc. I had course after course of antibiotics and spent three weeks in bed with the flu. I also lost a lot of weight (I've never been skinny but I was about 7lb thinner than I usually am).

The doctor told me that the best thing I could do was go on holiday somewhere hot. We almost cancelled because I was ill - only went back to work 2 days before we flew having spent over a week in bed. But went anyway. I ate my first proper meal in 11 days the night before we left. I was dreading the flight but just drugged myself up to the max and slept through most of it.

The doc was right - it did me the world of good and, no idea whether it was the holiday or not, the endless illnesses stopped after that. I'm back to being very healthy (although I have just caught a cold :laughing:)

So basically, if you can get there - GO. Also remember that American pharmacies sell literally EVERY kind of medication you could ever possibly need ;)

thanks guys

i should have know florida was a miracle cure :wizard:

ill show john these and hopefully he will be more relaxed about me travelling

glad to hear your holidays werent spoilt and i definitely think some sunshine will do me the world of good.

the excitement is rising in me once again :yay::yay::yay:

If u want a bit of medical advice pm me. My boyfriend is an emergency nurse practitioner/ enp/prescriber. I travelled in 2008 after being ill for 3. Weeks and felt really rough on the plane as i was so cold with riggours and temperature. It ended up i had pleursey. The florida sun was just the ticket and where else better to relax for a few days then in disney. Hope you feel better soon.

is there any way to get faster turn around time on the xrays?

xrays take about a few seconds to do and only a few minutes to read - so it seems to me that if they thought your case was an emergency, they would speed up the results....they must not think it's anything serious...

Hi
I would recommend that when you see your gp ask if he can prescribe some antibiotics for you to take with you as to see a doctor and get a prescription will cost you about 200 dollars. We made a mistake one year and forgot to get eye drops for our son as he often gets conjunctivitis.

I feel for you I really do.

It really sucks to be so looking forward to your holiday but too ill to enjoy the build up.

I am hoping that this time next week I will be feeling almost 100% better if not darn close to it as we will in the air heading to our happy place.

I just hope my anti biotics kick in soon but my DR said I should be ok.

So I will keep my fingers crossed for you that you get all better soon. A few friends have been getting some nasty cold/flu things recently seems to be going the rounds.

So in the meantime wrap up warm, rest when you can above all keep to the advice from your DR and if you have to change your plans yes it will suck but rather be fit and healthy than ill. I really hope that this does not happen for you.

thanks crabbie.

disneyholic family. i think what is general with all tests is if they find something on it they contact you and make you an appointment whereas if its a negative test it just goes in the stock pile for a 2 week turnaround. so no news is good news im thinking :)

stubb. ive had antibiotics but they did nothing :( although i dont think they were over powerful. will see what happens over the next two weeks.

starry. i really hope you are better too. it will be bad enough trying to keep the florida pace going while ill but imagine trying to ride the hulk while you cant catch your breath :sad2:

hopefully your antibiotics will kick in v soon :)

Yeah made the mistake of going on a prebooked boat trip today because I thought I was feeling better. Like julia roberts said in pretty woman BIG MISTAKE, HUGE

Still we both have a little while to go so fingers crossed. And thankfully I'm not a roller coster person so I wont have to worry about the added motion sickness as its bad enough on its own.
