This is probably a strange question, but hey, this is the Disboards! We thrive on strange questions!

Does anyone have any advice about bringing Hair Gel in a carry on on a plane? I know the obvious answer is "Find a tube that's 3 oz. or less", but that seems to be easier said than done. No idea why, but I haven't been able to find a small tube. Has anyone ever transferred hair gel from a larger tube to a smaller container? If so, did it still work on your hair?

I cannot go on another vacation without my hair gel! (I won't do it, I tell you!)

I have 2 weeks to figure this one out. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

You can buy small squeeze bottles to put gel in. I've never done it. Walmart has teeny bottles for like 99 cents. I just buy one of those for DH.

Barring finding small sizes check with your hotel gift shop to see if they have it or find a local drugstore and buy some when you get there. If nothing else you can buy a small plastic jar and put some in?

I've had no problems finding hair gel in a container 3.3 oz or less. I just picked up one by Tresomme a few weeks ago.

I found it at Walmart in the travel section.

I've also put hair gel in a smaller container when I was in a hurry and didn't have time to go to the store. It works just fine.

Now styling mousse - that's a whole other issue..........

Why would you think that transferring the gel would affect how it works? People transfer things like that all the time. It's not like it's an aerosol.

Anyway, we have no trouble finding travel sized hair gel at Target or Walmart.

There is no Walmart in NYC. I'll check target again.

Thanks everyone. I really wasn't sure if you could squish into another container (not sure why)

I live in NYC and they sell travel sizes at Duane Reade and Rite Aid. Or you can buy when you get there.

This website www.minimus.biz sells only travel products in travel sizes, I just just checked there are 5 different brands of Gel in under 3 oz containers. You might not be able to get your brand but you will be able to get it. I have ordered from them several times and am happy with the products one thing is the shipping is a little long as they are in I think CA and I am on the East coast and the products have to go ground so order about 10 days to 2 weeks before a trip.

Target will also have sets of travel-legal containers. Or you can order a set like that on amazon. I find that the jars work better for hair products than the squeezy tubes.

I bought small hair gels at Duane Reade, RiteAid, etc. Bed Bath & Beyond has a huge selection of travel sized items. It may not be the brand you use, but they are available. You could also transfer some gel into a small travel sized jar - it will work the same.
