I am in the preplanning stage for an Aug 2007 trip. We will be driving from NY. Right now the drive home looks like it will entail travelling over the Labor day weekend. Where could we expect traffic going North on I95, especially in Georgia and the Carolinas? Also, where would be the best place to be able to get a room in the way North? Since it is labor day weekend I know hotels can become booked but is it mainly a problem near the shores or are there other areas to look out for?

We made this trip on the Friday of labor day weekend heading north last year.
Expected delays and encountered none except when we got to the belt parkway. The whole trip took 17 hours. I have never stopped on the way home so I can't help you there. I can never figure that out. It seems to take forever to get to Florida but the ride home goes quicker.
There is a web site www.usastar.com/i95.
Lots of great information for those who drive I95 with feedback on hotels and good overnight stops - which exits, current gas prices, restaurants, road construction. I am sure you will find something there to help you out. Have a great trip.
