Okay I know that this has probably been asked before but.....

I don't want to take a prepaid credit card/currency card, I am old fashioned and like to set myself a budget each day and it will be too much hassle for me to keep receipts to work out what I have spent etc.

So the only two options I have are:-

Travellers Cheques - which I love
Currency - which I take a little of.

My question is will Travellers Cheques still be accepted in Orlando or will it be a hassle?

Thanks Guys. :confused3:confused3

If I take cheques I only change them at WDW and I have never had a problem using them there :)

I think TCs are still widely accepted in Orlando so you shouldn't have any issues.

Travellers cheques tend to be fine in major locations (big chains) in Orlando.

My only advice, which I learnt the hard way is to take smaller denomination cheques and def don't take $500 cheques!
We were in Mall of Millennia in a large store and we went to pay for our shopping & checked first whether they excepted travellers cheques which they did. We handed them our $500 cheque which she wrote out to her store, tried to complete the transaction and found that the cheque was of a too high value.
We then had to take it to a bank to get it changed into cash as once they are written out to a business you can't re-use them.

I have learnt my lesson!

Just a thought because I do appreciate where you are coming from, but TC can be a bit of a hassle. I will not go into debt on a holiday and my only debt at home is the mortgage. I am anal about not having debt. However. I do have a credit card and when we go abroad I just pay a credit on it for what I can spend and am careful not to overspend it. I also take cash though which I appreciate you don't want to do.

For me. Keeping TC safe is no easier/harder than keeping cash safe. All the WDW rooms have room safes. I know nothing is 100% secure, but in multiple trips we have never had a problem with the security of the hotel safe.

I changed travellers cheques daily at our Disney Hotel last year with no problem. They would only let me change them $200 per day which was plenty.I too am old school, i used to split the cheques into daily envelopes and changed each day, then if i had any money left over at the end of the day that went into another envelope for end of holiday treats. It worked for us, and we came home within budget:thumbsup2

I used travellers checks during my trip in may. They were acceptet everywhere on disney property as well as at Universal and stores lile walmart and publix. Since I don't like carryibg cash at disney but still wanted to set myself a daily budget and have the convienience of paying with a card I simply bought lots of 50$ gift cards with my travellers checks and took 2 cards each day...one for food and the other one for yummy cocktails, souvenirs and stuff like that.

Just to echo the above, most places are ok with TC - I would recommend the pre pay travel card though - I just took out a cash amount at the hotel ATM each morning for budgeting purposes :)

just to let you know AIB bank in south of Ireland no longer cash traveller cheques from may of this year, so im thinking more banks across the world will soon follow

Thanks guys,

Mind made up I will be sticking with Travellers Cheques and in small denominations. I appreciate all your advice as always.

Fiona. :)

I'm exactly the same, although I do put large amounts (ADRS) onto my credit card, so I asked the Virgin Concierge in Orlando just to confirm. This is the reply I received

'Thanks for the email. Travellers cheques are still accepted especially at Disney. I always advise people to ask if they take it at the store before signing, just in case.'

It was enough to put my mind at rest
