Travellers cheques or ATM's

Hi,

I'm unsure about whether to take travellers cheques or use the ATM'a at DLP.
If I take travellers cheques should they be in sterling or euros ? I'm staying in the Hotel Cheyenne but i've heard the exchange rates are very poor in the hotels, is this the same in the park and at the post office at the Marne le vallee railway station.
Any advice regarding currency etc really appreciated.

WE go to France most years for our hols & now don't bother with travellers cheques due to the hassle & cost of changing them. WE just take euros & with draw money from ATM when/if needed.

WE also take our credit-card for ease. If you don't have a credit card I suggest getting one with an 0% offer & just pay off the balance before the offer runs out. That way it doesn't cost you anything

If you do decide to take TC you will get a better rate with Euro ones.

ATMs are convenient and offer better exchange rates than cashing a Travelers Check at a hotel.

Now do the same too I invested in a Nationwide debit account and credit card since you are not charged commission charges.
The other good thing is that the bank rate for currency conversion is used rather than tourist rate

I agree that travellers cheques are almost outdated now for travel in Europe.

Check with your bank to see if they have a recipricol agreement with foreign ATMs - when in Germany for instance I use my Bank of America card with no fees at Deutsche Bank.

Also check with your credit card company re 'foreign transaction fees', and try and consolidate your charges. This means sign as much as you can (meals etc) to your hotel bill, so that you have one bill to settle with your credit card.

As a recent example, a charge from the mini bar in Germany came to $11 USD, but I was charged $12.95 foreign transaction fee....

I do not think it is just the hotels, I think the Disney visa has an exchange rate designed to make them significant profit. They may have made their profit off of me this time, but in the long run they loose, because it causes me to just decide to not use their card as much. I seem to have gotten charged a pretty hefty fee everywhere I did a money exchange with cash also. The rates were better at the exchange stands (Train station, Airport, Disney Village etc ...) compared to using the Disney Visa; but these money exchange stands all tacked on a pretty hefty fee.
I think I got the best deal when I used my bank card at an ATM.
I wish I had realized this sooner, I would have hung onto that cash I took with me and gotten more of my cash out of the ATM machines.
