Travellers Cheque Question

Have been watching the Dollar rate for quite a while now seems to be stuck around 1.60 so i'm thinking that it won't be going up much higher than that due to US Financial problems but can see it dropping by the time we go next April, so i was thinking about possibly getting our dollars sooner rather than later.
We normally take a mixture of TC's & cash but have been wondering are tc's still widely accepted in restaurants and shop's?

Any help would be appreciated

Last September we found that it wasn't as easy to use them. Larger stores were Ok, but a few food places said no. Luckily, we'd also put a bit of money on a pre-paid credit card, they took that like a shot!!!!

Like it or not, it's all about the plastic these days! TC will slowly be phased out as they are a hassle for merchants to take and process and there are much more convenient ways to pay these days.

My advice would be to use a credit card (and some notes) or put some money on a pre-paid currency card.

We used a few TCs in WDW last year with no problem, but I had heard that some places outside WDW had stopped taking them, so we just made sure we used them inside WDW (often changing them at breakfast so we had cash for the rest of the day).

Mainly though we used our Fairfx card and had no problem with that being accepted anywhere

We stock up on dollars using our fairfx card and had no problems using it. Nirmallybteir rate is a little better than high streetvrate

like most fo the other posts have said - we too have seen the TC's start to disappear and become the exception rather than the norm.

We now use Fairfx cards for the majority of our spends - taking probably 25% in cash. They are accepted everywhere and there are very few downsides.

With Fairfx you also get a (slightly) better rate than for cash.
