traveling with multiples!!

Just a quick Happy Valentines to all.....

Kikakeko--if you need to talk ever Pm me and I will send you my number...

I will post more later off to make valentines dinner for me and Dh kids in bed :cool1: :cool1:

Aterriq--I do think the clothes are made smaller it is hard as they get bigger to figure out sizes especially if you are like me and try for the next season...

Pea-n-me I saw that thread....a friend also told me about it.....

kikakeko: I sure understand your reluctance to have surgery. I had mine a little over a year ago. I am older than most of you...my kids are grown....so having more children wasn't my issue. But it was the BEST THING I have ever done. I feel so much better. After the initial 10 days I was doing really good...after a month I was great. This is a huge decision and I was the biggest fighter in the room. I was ready to walk out right up until they drug me to OR kicking and screaming. If you are happy with the beautiful family you have, listen to your doctor (if you trust them) and if necessary have the surgery. You will feel better and your family will benefit from your good health. There are MANY benefits to it. If you want to talk feel free to e-mail me.

Hay...that's my thread!!!
I was directed to this thread which I love to!!
We are truely special women that God has entrusted to care for twins....at least that is what I tell myself when frustration sets in!!! :sad2:
I have identical 13 year olds in the 7th grade. I understand your girl problems ...have had many myself. My girls were 8 weeks early after I spent 6 weeks in the Hospital in pre-term labor. They were both just barely 4 pounds and not well when they were born. Because of the meds and complications we were unable to have more kids.
They are fantastic now....except at times when their mouths start!!!
I love ready your stories of the little kids because i was there and survived, and in some ways it does get easier, but i many it does not!!!!

your twins are so beautiful...Sounds like it does not get any easier as they get older....Are yor twins really close still?????

My DDs are very close. Just last summer they went into separate bedrooms. They had been in the same room sharing a queen size bed. When we have guests they don't mind sharing. They are very similar in some ways, but in some personality ways they are very different. They both play basketball, softball and soon Jr. High track will start. I am thankful they do the same sports so I am not driving 100 different directions. As far as things not getting easier, the hard things we deal with now are the teen things. Sometimes I wish my only worries were whether they will stay in the stroller when we go out. Now I worry about all the peer pressure out there. Keep the posts coming I love hearing from all us Disney Lover MOT!!!

I am sure as they get older the issuses change...

It is neat that they are so close and do the same sports, etc...

Have you been on a DCL??? If so when and how much fun was it???

So Jealous of you...have fun...we'll man this board while you are away!!!
We have been on just 1 cruise and we loved it to death!!!
The girld had a blast and they even ate some different foods!!!
We highly recommend doing a Disney Cruise..even though it is a bit pricey....if you can afford it do. Life only comes around once!!!
We also love Disney World, which is why we do both.

Hi everyone, I came over to this thread from the cruise board too, it's great to hear about the twin stories! My twins are 10 year old boys and I also have a 14 year old boy. I remember when my twins were little and I met people with older twins I would always ask "Does it get any easier??". The answer is most definitely!! When they can eat, dress, walk, go potty, talk, and listen to (and obey) Mom things get much easier!! When they were 2 they were both running in different directions (laughing hysterically) and I would have to assess which one would be in danger first to determine who to run after first, I didn't think I'd survive, but here we are!! My boys are in separate 4th grade classes and have always been separated. My husband is military and we moved in March of their 2nd grade year so I told them that since they were "new" and had only 2 mos of school I would put them in the same class together this one time but they both said "No Mom we will meet more friends if we are in 2 different classes!". They're both so different and have different interests that it has never been a problem. I had a friend who put her twins in the same class and had the teacher show favoritism over one twin so that's when I decided to have them separate from the beginning. It's all they've known so they've never questioned it and have done great.

I too have to put my vote in for a Disney cruise, if you haven't done one, seriously consider it. I was NEVER interested in a cruise (I don't like the heat, the sun, the water) but because it was Disney we decided to try it and we are HOOKED. All 5 of us LOVED it and we'll definitely do it again. My husband and I decided it was the first vacation that we didn't think about home or work or school ONE TIME. (he was deploying to Afghanistan soon after we came home and I was worried that would bother me the whole time but because it was so great I never even thought about it, it was perfect)

By the way, just for background sake: I went 38 1/2 weeks before they were born, no problems in pregnancy, but one twin was in NICU for 2 weeks with low blood platelets, low oxygen saturation levels. I don't think they expected him to recover, but it's all kind of a blur to me... He was only 4 lbs 15 ozs, they said his placenta had calcified therefore he wasn't receiving the nourishment he needed. The other twin was 7 lbs 3 ozs. :) Both are happy and healthy today and the 4 lb baby is 3 inches and 20 lbs bigger than the other one!!!!

Whew, I think I've said enough now!!!! Time to post this thing!!

Have a great trip :sunny:

We are actually going on our first DC the eastern this May. We are getting very excited :cheer2:

I too came over from the cruise thread. I've had so much fun reading all these pages in this thread, I've even cried! I have identical twin 5 yr old boys and an 8 yr old girl. I love being a mom of twins, although in the beginning I thought I'd never be able to do it. They just bring me so much joy and they amaze me all the time. Not to say they aren't naughty, just today I was about ready to blow some steam, so right now they are taking a nap. I love the fact that they have a playmate all the time, so helpful at times.
We are doing our first Disney cruise in May and we can't wait. We took the kids to Disneyland when the boys were 2 1/2, boy was that tiring. Thankfully we spent a week there so we didn't feel rushed to do everything. It worked out well, but I don't know if I'd recommend it! :rotfl2:

A little background - no history of twins in my family. We were completely shocked when we found out at my 8 week apppointment. I was already in maternity clothes, but I just thought it was because it was my 2nd pregnancy. Even my midwife was shocked to see two heartbeats, I about fell off the table in disbelief. DH was not with me at this appointment, so I had to wait until he got home from work to break the news to him. I spent the afternoon having bouts of both laughter and tears at the thought of having twins. I went into labor and was 1cm at 28 weeks, the Dr. put me on Tributeline and bedrest (which was fun trying to take care of my 2 yr old DD). The day I turned 35 weeks and stopped taking the Trib., my water broke and I started labor. Luke was 5 lbs 9 oz 19 3/4" and Logan was 6 lbs 19 3/4", 29 minutes apart. They spent 9 days in the NICU because of 2 apnea spells. They have been healthy and wonderful ever since. Most people cannot tell them apart and I'm always getting asked how I do it. To me they don't look alike, they have different personalities and I can just see that when I look at them. Wish I could figure out how to post a pic and I would.
On a different note, I too have experienced a lot of abnormal uterine bleeding and just had surgery in Dec. to remove numerous polyps from my uterus. So far that has done the trick. Which I'm glad, the next step would have been a hysterectomy and even though we are done having children, I just wasn't ready to do that yet.
Thanks for this fun thread!!

I have a question for those with older girls. Do they make girls clothing sizes smaller than they use to in the past? I ask because my youngest daughter, who is 7, has to wear size 10-12 for her clothes to fit. Yes we expect to be taller than her father.

My twins are almost 12 and no, I think kids today are just bigger. It's very tough when they grow out of the 7 - 16 sizes because NO WAY are my girls ready to wear what they show in the JR dept. Right now, they're a size 18 at Limited Too and when those become too short, which will be any day now, I don't know what I'm going to do. They are already 5'3" and haven't even begun to hit the "puberty growth spurt". The MD predicts they will be around 5'10". Pretty good for two girls who started out at 2lbs 13oz and 3lbs 8oz!

As for the stupid comments people make, I think I've heard them all. I had people ask me if they were a boy and girl because my one dd was bald, even though they were dressed identically in all PINK! Lost track of how many times I was asked about fertility drugs, but the best was the MAN in an elevator who asked me if I breast fed them :rotfl2:

At almost 12 they don't dress alike, so it's not obvious to many that they are twins. It's fun to see when the light bulb goes on as people look from one to the other. It happened while in line at WDW. A little girl about 5 said quite loudly to her mother, "Why do those two girls look like each other? Did they try to do that?" The mother was so embarassed as she tried to explain. I told the little girls she was quite smart as most people don't notice they are twins.

Best question the girls get asked - "What's it like to be a twin?" Their answer - "What's it like NOT to be?"

Fletchfab5 and jillane88,

Welcome welcome,..

I love hearing all of the stories and hearing about older twins and about everyones pregnancy....

WE are doing a DC in oct for halloween actually...First we are doing six days as SSR and then the cruise...We have taken our twins every year to disney since they were 11 months old...We love going and with owning the DVC it is easy to go a ton...

What does everyone think of having the first page of this thread have our screen name and then the ages of our multiples..this way it would be an easy reference for new comers and all of us..easy to keep track of each other this way?? Do not know just a thought...

I really like this idea. There's enough of us that it's getting hard to remember who has what, in terms of kids. I've thought about adding a pic of my kids to my sig, too. But I don't have a very nice one that I'd be willing for everyone to see each time I post. :worried:

To those who have cruised--what did you do in terms of staterooms? I'd love to try a cruise. DH isn't interested but would (reluctantly) do a Disney cruise. His main sticking point is that, with 4 kids, we'd have to get two staterooms and pay full price for two of the kids. It gets expensive. Of course, we're paying much more than that for our WDW vacation, but he knows he'll enjoy himself so doesn't hesitate about "wasting" the money. What kind of staterooms did you get? Did the extra expense for having too many kids (DH and I always joke--out of the kids' earshot--we had "two too many") bother you, or did you feel it was worth it?

I think that's a pet peeve of mine in general. It seems that every "Family Package" you find (be it Disney or Wisconsin Dells or any vacation promo) is for 2 adults and 2 kids. I don't mind having to pay extra for having a couple more kids, but a lot of times it's not even possible--I have to purchase two complete packages! Instead of paying for and getting a bigger hotel room, I have to book two rooms; instead of paying an extra fee for the two additional children, I get charged a full adult price for them! We know so many families that have more than 2 children--it seems like 3 is the "new 2"--but the travel industry hasn't kept up with the trend in family size!

Anybody else feel the same, or am I being hyper-sensitive?

I totally agree with you, that has been a real pet peeve of mine that everything is geared for a family of 4. It's hard to even get a table at a restaurant with 5. (we usually have a booth with a chair on the end) It wasn't as much of a problem when they were all little, but now they're bigger and take up a lot more room! :) We've gone to getting only suites when we're in hotels so we have the extra bed and the twins sleep together in the other queen bed. On the cruise we had 2 connecting Category 10 rooms (which are inside with no windows), they're much cheaper than the Cat. 4 Family Suite and we didn't mind having inside rooms, in fact, we're night people rather than morning so we were able to stay up later and sleep in because there were no windows to let in the light. It was great!!! Plus with 2 connecting rooms you have 2 bathrooms, 2 TVs and everyone has space for their things--clothes, suitcases etc...yet the door between the rooms can stay open and it's just like a really big room, you're still all together.

Yay! :cheer2: I was able to post a picture, but it might be too small, you can click on it to see it better, but then it's HUGE. Here they are on the cruise, the smaller boys are the twins, obviously ;)

Hello to everyone!!!

I think the list would be a fab idea.

Today marks the 2 month countdown till our trip. I am having this incredible need to start planning another one though. But I will wait until we get back at least to see how the DH likes it. ::yes::

I think that little girls clothes are smaller made. My DD age 8 is wearing a size 10 and 1/2, not because she is obese just because the other sizes are about 5 inches to long for her and I am tired of having them altered. She wears this size with a belt and it works ok.

I have decided that I will most likely have my surgery this fall. And I am almost ok with it. I think so anyways we will wait and see . :worried:

Well, we are taking Grandpa and Grandma along, also my BIL and SIL with their 3 kids. So we got 3 cat 9 staterooms. Me, DH and our DS5 twins in one room, GP and GM with DD8, and niece(9) in the middle room, BIL and SIL with their other 2 kids in the next room. Should work out great, we'll find out in a few short months!

To all of your questions I do know how to put all of that info on the first page. Instead of me having to take the time going through all of the posts and try to compile the info..could you post the info...in a reply to this email and then I will put it on the first page....Tell me yoru screen name, real name etc...twins age etc..then I will put it on...Give any info..that you feel you want to give...Some may want to give more than others..Any future plans to WDW or DCL you might want to let me know then if you are there when others are there you could plan a little meet....

We are going on the cruise and we have a cat.4.It is soo not cheap..But we are only a family of four..I hear you with those of you have five or more...

Kikakeko,
Let us know when you will have the surgery...I am sending pixie dust your way....

Kristin

So happy we have all met....
